As a senior, I knew that it was time to apply for college. SLU and many other colleges were among my choices. What was hard was determining which school would be right for me. After months of thinking and discussing with my parents, I decided to attend Saint Louis University. A big reason why I decided to attend SLU is based on its Jesuit mission. The mission is all about providing a balanced college experience to each and everyone of the students. I wondered how SLU’s Jesuit mission would impact my experience at the university.

In high school, I devoted 400 hours helping senior citizens with their smartphones and tablets. At SLU, I want to receive many opportunities to help the campus and the community. My friends who attend different universities tell me that the goal of service is the just get the hours. I do not believe in that. The purpose of doing service is to help others and solve problems. I believe service is crucial in my life because it is an opportunity to help people, interact with them, and make the world a better place. Service also connects with my goal of improving my leadership skills. I want to become more involved with students and faculty. I am looking for opportunities to lead or assist others with their goals. I hope that at SLU, I can become a more active member of various activities and

An HBCU is a college/university that embeds the nature of power and black excellence; a place with surroundings that doesn’t force you, but makes you want to push yourself to become a better person inside and out, and throughout the community. Transferring would allow myself to be put in an atmosphere of continuous motivation and growth that I would feed off of my superiors and the people around me.
The main component I look for in college is their commitment to further my studies. I feel this college will provide an ingenious culture within the science field, therefore rendering myself with the building blocks necessary to later pursue the medical field. Not only does UNCW devote itself towards their student’s undergraduate years, but also by providing Professional pathways such as Pre-Medicine, students such as myself can go into Professional schools better prepared. In addition to my interest in the academics the school has to offer, I also marvel at the amount of extracurricular activities available to the student body. One student organization in particular is the Greek Life. When my mother attended this school, she was an avid member
Personal Statement Name: Xi Xiong Personal Statement After graduating from Stony Brook University with a degree in Business Management-Marketing specialization in May 2015, I would like to join New York University as a postgraduate student to further my studies by pursuing the Master of Integrated Marketing course offered in the institution. I am convinced that my academic performance as an undergraduate and my work experience in general demonstrates my ability to undertake the Master Degree and all that appertains to its award and graduate within the required time. One of my career objectives is to be a key decision maker in the corporate world and successfully completing the course will draw me a step closer to realizing this objective.
I was born 7 weeks premature, this has lead to some health consequences in my life. My right lung never finished growing and this lead me to be susceptible to severe pneumonia when I was 14 years old. I was hospitalized at Children's Mercy Hospital and incredibly vulnerable. Due to the expert treatment of the highly trained hospital staff that I received, I have now fully recovered. Since then, I do everything I can to stay healthy and keep my body and lungs strong. I have changed my outlook on life, realizing that every second is a blessing and feeling like it is my duty to give my time to the world. That is why I began volunteering at Homeless Centers in Kansas City such as, the World Outreach Foundation and Seton Center. I focused in the medical departments of these centers but I felt like I could never give wholey of myself. I did not have the knowledge. But just blocks away from these centers is KCU, that is why I aspire to attend KCU, it is an institution that provided hope in my mind that I could give
I equate service with helpfulness—assisting others. I help both my school community by answering questions and giving feedback and my community as a whole through my volunteer activities, the most enjoyable of which has been Habitat for Humanity.
I believe that being able to assist others is a positive part of life that we all endure. Although we sometimes view service as unnecessary work, it gives me a sense of pride knowing I’m able to volunteer in my community. Being around people who are willing to work hard has affected my life by motivating me to view service as something that will benefit not only the community, but myself and my views on life as well. Because service is such an important part of being in NJHS, I think my work in the community puts me in a good position in the admission
My lifetime goal is helping others and I plan to use my career to fulfill it. The classes I’m taking right now and the ones I’m planning to take senior year are classes I believe will influence my decision in my college major/career as well as counting toward my GPA. This will help me get into schools who have medical programs that I’m considering. Also, taking AP classes can help me save money since I can earn college credit. I’m taking all AP classes, and the electives I’m taking have been classes that have helped me consider being in the medical field. I’ve found that over the years, science and math are what I’m doing better in versus history and english. I believe by being in the medical field, I can help others in the best way I can.
My interest in medicine began the first time I (intentionally) held lethal bacteria. Mycobacterium marinum causes incurable granulomas in zebrafish. To me, however, this microbe also represents a vital step in my career path. Prior to studying M. marinum, I captured phages without testing their therapeutic potential. M. marinum thus provides my first chance to treat a disease in vivo.
How did a departmental faculty generated 12,000 hours of student community service in one semester? The following is a qualitative analysis of conversations with faculty members in a department that recently instituted a service learning requirement for all student majors. The campus is a large urban comprehensive university with a multi-ethnic student body. Approximately fifteen faculty members were interviewed for this study. While most of those interviewed included service learning components in their courses, interviews with faculty members who resisted or refused to incorporate service learning were conducted as well in order to understand varying faculty attitudes towards service learning.
Volunteering made me find my career plan in sociology / Social Worker. With a college degree in one of these areas, I hope to impact my community in ways. First, with the knowledge from college, I hope to counsel with young people& adults. In today's society, there are so many negative things that influence adults & young people. I want to help them understand the importance of setting goals and striving to become great citizens. There are always some activities for the betterment of a community. If we get involved ourselves in those, we will certainly have some useful experiences in our life too. Service Learning is one of those activities, and it is primarily a service of a community with the application of the knowledge and guidance obtained in the college. Moreover, Service Learning is a way for a student to practice the education that he learns from the college, which in result strengthens the student academically. As a result, A student can be aware of the social issues through Service Learning, and he can apply his ideas and knowledge to come up with a solution. Similarly, Service learning also provides a source of communicating with the professional of the community, which can be helpful for a student regarding the education and employment. There are many organizations in our society, which create the opportunity for Service Learning. The ones that I am most interested in are the American Red Cross and City House homeless shelter. I like these organizations because these both are doing wonderful job b...
There are numerous reasons why universities should incorporate service learning into their curriculum. One way that service learning is so beneficial to college curriculums is that it will cheapen the price of credit hours. Many universities have made the service learning free credits, which will appeal to students when they are making the decision to attend school. And trust me, as a college student, the cheaper the credit hour the more appealing the school is. Another very beneficial aspect of service learning in curriculums is that it gives students a taste of the “real world”. “Service learning allows students to apply what they are learning to real-world problems, become more involved in the community surrounding the campus, and develop career g...
I want to be able to provide guidance and support, as well as fun opportunities such as the Freshmen Flotilla and Bedtime Stories, in order to foster a sense of community amongst students and faculty. I have noticed that many of my friends that I lived with the Honors dorm who moved to live off campus have become disconnected with the community of the Honors College, and I would love to make an impact by keeping older students involved. I hope that I will be also be able to impact USC helping make the student population grow through helping to encourage prospective students to come here and answer any questions they have that might cause hesitation or delay. Overall, I would like to help create an accepting and accessible environment to
I am applying to your master’s program in student affairs administration for the fall of 2016. I will be earning my bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership & Supervision from Purdue University in May 2016. I did not know it yet, but the moment I joined my first student organization was the moment I was sucked into student affairs. I have wanted to work in student affairs since the end of my sophomore year of college. As a student who struggled academically, I want to help students succeed.
