I chose Ryerson’s nursing program as my goal for post-secondary education because Ryerson University’s nursing program offers a wide variety of opportunities to be successful and to learn about new approaches towards illness, medicine, and reshaping our health-care systems in a better way. I show a great interest in pursuing the nursing career to help others because I feel as if the Ryerson University nursing program is rewarding and it will create more pathways for me in the future. I have developed a strong interest in how the human body works and I love to learn new ideas and concepts about the human body and the treatments and cures for many types of illnesses. I strongly believe Vernon Howard when he states: “Always walk through life as if you have something new to learn and you will”. Relating this to the nursing program at Ryerson University, I strongly believe …show more content…
Ryerson University is located in the heart of Downtown Toronto and having lived in Toronto my whole life I have become comfortable with the city and the community in Toronto. I find myself as a confident and outgoing person who shows initiative and commitment when approaching new tasks and opportunities. Some extra-curricular activities that I have participated in over the past four years include: the soccer team, volleyball team, hockey team, environmental club, and breakfast club. These extra-curricular activities have helped me acquire useful skills such as: leadership, teamwork/collaboration skills, time-management skills, and long term commitment skills. These extra-curricular activities show that I
If I can turn back in time, I would advise my young self to join the Kaiser Permanente volunteering program sooner and to skip the small conversations in meetings. Those talks may seem necessary for the first few times, but this communication method can become meaningless since people do not interact on a personal level. Joining the program had supported me by allowing me to associate with various friends through teamwork and encouraged me to thrive beyond my comfort zone.
I am currently a high school senior at Cumberland High School. Upon graduation, I will have earned my CNA license, Advanced Studies Diploma, and Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Southside Virginia Community College in Keysville, Virginia. I live with my legal guardian and will be commuting to college. I will be attending Longwood University in the fall to become an RN. This scholarship would assist me in earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), landing a job at Chippenham Hospital, and earning a Master of Health Administration.
In 6th grade, I was diagnosed with a thyroid issue. I went through multiple procedures to find the origin of this issue and see if it was cancer. Although it was not cancer, I still was in and out of the hospital. It was the scariest moment of my ten year old self. I dreaded being in a hospital.
My intended goal after graduating from high school in just a couple of months is to be enrolled at Santa Ana community college where I will be taking my general education classes, and enlisting into a nursing program in order to obtain my associates degree in nursing. After completing these course I plan to transfer to Cal State Fullerton, where I will obtain my Bachelor of Science in nursing degree, to complete the requirements need to major as a Registered Nurse. Winning this scholarship will allow me to peruse my dreams in a way that it makes it easier for me and my family to pay the debt that will be included. I am the oldest out of five and I know that having to pay for my education and needs will be tough, therefore if I win the scholarship I will be able to help them out, winning the scholarship will allow me to be an example for my younger siblings as I will be the very first person in my family to go to college. Which will serve as a motivation for them to follow the same pathway of
My journey begins with a hope to acquire an advanced Nursing career. With so many potential opportunities in Nursing I want to strive for the best career in creating a career legacy map that will take care of me, thus allowing me to provide the best to patients and coworkers. I found this article interesting because as I grow more mentally and physically it is very important to find meaningful work that would allow me to be remembered. Growing up I was always admired for and dedicated to helping others. My father reminded me that I was a leader everyday in our home and sparked my first hope in my heart to succeed.
I believe that higher education offered in the past decades and centuries is not adequate for addressing the realities of the current century and decade. Care environments and patient needs have become more multidimensional, thus the need for nurses to achieve requisite and intensifying competencies and roles for effective and high quality care delivery. I also believe that today’s nurses are required to take up mounting roles in nursing as well as master information systems and technological tools while collaborating with different teams of healthcare professionals. With no doubt, the changing roles of nurses will be a challenging journey for me as a nurse. I believe that it is only with passion and the determination for achieving high-quality care that one can adapt to the changes in nursing.
When I hear the word nursing I think of a challenge. Throughout my high school career science has always been one of my stronger subjects when it came to my classes. While struggling with math every year I became down on myself at times. However, doing good in science made me feel successful, gave me the motivation to be the great student I am today. Whenever we would study the human body, I found it the most interesting part of the course.
As a child, I have always had a strong desire to take care of people and make a difference in their lives. So, becoming a nurse was a dream of mine. I had taken the necessary steps to accomplish this goal, but due life circumstances, this journey was put on hold for many years. Eventually, I attended Medical Assistant school 1995 as a single mother of now four adult children. I completed the program in 1996 with honors.
