Once Upon A Time is primarily a television series about various enchanted lands with actual people. Many of these enchanted lands have magic, giants and fairy tale characters known from stories viewers read and heard while growing up. Unlike the stories, these situations are really happening. Unlike in the stories we remember, these fairytale characters struggle to keep their "happily ever after." While the stories viewers heard growing up ended, the stories in “Once Upon A Time” are continuous. Rumplestiltskin, called Rumple, is one of the central villains in Once Upon A Time. The television show showed him plotting to cast a dark curse over the land called Enchanted Forest to try to reunite himself with his son, Baelfire (also called Bae). Enchanted Forest is tied to the newer town of Storybrooke. Rumple demonstrates various psychological and personality traits that will help us understand him as a villain. Rumple demonstrates narcissistic traits by being persuasive and constantly plotting. He displays selfish behavior, need for respect, and lack of sympathy for others sacrifices (Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders: DSM-IV., 1994, p. 661). This diagnostic list for Narcissistic Personality Disorder lists the main villain’s personality traits. I will reveal how Rumple’s actions fit this, and other, personality disorders.
Acquiring magical infinite powers, Rumple is asked to make deals with others, but many of those deals always end up being difficult for the person asking. This difficulty involved many learning that all magic used comes with a price. It was revealed that Rumple was the one who presented Regina, the other central villain, with the curse that was used to send characters to Storybrooke; ho...

...ity needed by an individual who does not feel adequately equipped or inclined for life’s problems (Ciccarelli & White, 2012, p. 512). Rumple has demonstrated many of these traits and others of Alder’s theory.
Another of Adler’s theories discusses that there are a several pathological personalities which can be formed, however, Rumple is the dangerous ruling dominant type, which is characterized by an active and aggressive attempt to master their lives and the people in them. Having this type of personality impairs his ability to form as Adler’s, which is known as social interest, the sense of linking to and empathy for other individuals (Bickhard, 1976, pp. 29-30). Rumplestiltskin’s long-lasting anxiety set in when he was left powerlessness, yet, also afraid of being weak again. He would rather lose everything than agree to take anything less than absolute power.
The anxieties suggest a psychological design with aspects of misperception and false perception to reveal a projection process. Tritt asserts that Goodman Brown’s evil is located in others, and Brown believes himself to be without guilt although his desires are still in his subconscious. It is a “vice-like grip with which such process is paralyzing, indeed terrifying” (Tritt 116).
For Ivan Illych, climbing the social ladder of entrenched Russian bourgeois society was the ultimate goal. Particularly, Ivan would use his career in the law to allow him to obtain such heights. This led to Ivan placing his family on the back burner whilst his own career and ambitions would enter the limelight. Once the end is near however, Ivan begins to feel regret take hold of himself. “It occurred to him that what had appeared perfectly impossible before, namely that he has not spent his life as he should have done, might after all be true … his professional duties and the whole arrangement of his life and of his family, and all his social and official interests, might all have been false” (Tolstoy ...
The story begins by describing the effects of desiring something which one cannot obtain – a child. The author offers a sympathetic view of Rumplestiltskin’s character by portraying him as a solitary individual, desperate for affection as opposed to
In Notes from Underground, Dostoyevsky relates the viewpoints and doings of a very peculiar man. The man is peculiar because of his lack of self-respect, his sadistic and masochistic tendencies, and his horrible delight in inflicting emotional pain on himself and others. Almost instantly the reader is forced to hate this man. He has no redeeming values, all of his insights into human nature are ghastly, and once he begins the narrative of his life, the reader begins to actively hate and pity him.
Personalities differ greatly from one person to another and there are many theorists with different theories of why people act the way they do. The first few stages of a person’s shape their entire personality and how they are going to be for the rest of their life and that is very important. The development of a person has to do with who their parents are, how they are rasied, their environment, etc. and that is very crucial. Every person acts the way they do for a certain reason and that it showed by many theories throughout time.
Alejandra Martinez Exam 1 1. What is the difference between a. and a. Personality “typology” is historically old. Give two examples of historical typology. A. Sheldon suggested that the human body be categorized. He introduced Sheldon’s Somatotypes, which associates body types with human temperament, into three types: 1.
“Catcher in the Rye”, by J.D. Salinger, is a timeless classic of a boy just trying to find himself in world full of rejecting people. The main characters name is Holden Caulfield. Holden is a sixteen year old boy who has been expelled from a yet another school. Holden has many problems in his life ranging from girlfriends to family. He does not have many friends, the girl he used to love had sex with a boy he hates, and his little brother passed away at a very young age. No matter what Holden tries to do, it seems life only gets worse. Holden has a strange personality. He wants to hold onto every childhood aspect that he can yet have sex with a prostitute. Every character in “Catcher in the Rye” has very different personalities and characteristics; each of these characters represents and shapes Holden’s own personality. Phoebe is the childhood side while Mr. Antolini is his adult side.
Everybody's personality is different. Some may be extraversion's or narcissists, low self-monitoring or high self-monitoring and the list goes on. During this semester, taking Personality Theories has thought me more about myself than I have learned in my whole life. I believe that my personality stems from my family environment, my friends and society and then I get to choose what I think to be morally correct and what fits with my personality the best.
Psychology covers a huge field and one interesting aspect of it is personality. Personality by itself involves various issues. Some aspects are Psychoanalytic, Ego, Biological, Behaviorist, Cognitive, Trait, and Humanistic. Different types of behaviors are amazing to learn about, mainly the behavior therapy, collective behavior, crime and punishment, and Social behavior and peer acceptance in children. I chose Behaviorism over the other aspects because I believe behavior determines human personality and is very interesting. You can tell what one is by his behavior, and one behaves according to what place he has in society. By doing this paper on Behavior, I hope to get a better understanding of, if behavior develops a personality or if personality guides behavior. I also see behaviorism helping me in the future with my personal and professional career by understanding human personality and behavior better than I do. No matter what your major is, if you can determine one's personality by his behavior you can really get your work done from that person and understand the better than you would otherwise. This person could be your employee or your employer. Behavior Therapy Behavior therapy is the application of experimentally derived principles of learning to the treatment of psychological disorders. The concept derives primarily from work of Russian psychologist Ivan Pavlov. Behavior-therapy techniques differ from psychiatric methods, particularly psychoanalysis, in that they are predominately symptom (behavior) oriented and shows little or no concern for unconscious processes, achieving new insight, or effecting fundamental personality change. The U.S. psychologist B.F. Skinner, who worked with mental patients in a Massachusetts State hospital, popularized behavior therapy. From his work in animal learning, Skinner found that the establishment and extinction of responses can be determined by the way reinforces, or rewards, are given. The pattern of reward giving, both in time and frequency, is known as a schedule of reinforcement. The gradual change in behavior in approximation of the desired result is known as shaping. More recent developments in behavior therapy emphasize the adaptive nature of cognitive processes. Behavior-therapy techniques have been applied with some success to such disturbances as enuresis (bed-wetting), tics, phobias, stutteri...
In Once Upon a Time, Peter Pan is integrated into the plot. Peter’s background story and character is impersonalized in this television series. Peter’s character maintains some origination although, there is a shift from the Disney film and novel to the new series. In this adaptation, Peter Pan is connected to other Disney characters. Peter Pan is still the young boy who does not want to grow up, but in the series he is also characterized as the father of Rumpelstiltskin. Rumpelstiltskin is the man who weaves straw into gold in another Disney film called Rumpelstiltskin. Rumpelstiltskin is denoted as the “dark one” in Storybrooke, where the adaptation takes place. Additionally, there are other settings in which the series takes place, for instance all kingdoms of the princesses illustrated in the series are also the setting. In this case, the setting of the story is maintained in Neverland, but the plot shifts from Barrie’s plot. In the series, Peter Pan is in search of the truest believer of magic to gain power and he finds it in Henry, Emma and Regina’s son. Peter’s character is portrayed as a good character in the first scenes, even though, it is just an appearance, and he then turns into the antagonist in the plot. As a result, fluctuating Peter’s character role from a protagonist to a protagonist to an antagonist. Changing the
Regarding the events of Wuthering Heights, alongside the tragic love stories, there appears to be a revenge plot supplementing them. What separates Wuthering Heights from books like Romeo and Juliet is the characters constant need for revenge. If revenge was absent in the book, it would b...
The first personality test was the basic personality test. The assessment from the basic personality type indicated that my personality classification is an ESTJ (Llorens, 2010). The results found that I am more extroverted than introverted; I tend to be more sensing than intuitive, more of a thinker versus a feeling individual, and I am judging versus perceiving. The interpretation indicated that I am realistic, logical, analytical, decisive, organized, and I like to run things. The results were interesting, the analysis and interpretation was extremely accurate to my tendencies and my current role in my organization. The result provided me with insight to my tendencies and approaches to situations that I face each day as a leader in a multi-faceted organization (Llorens, 2010). Additionally the results indicated that my personality type matches my career aspirations as an Executive Program Manager in a corporate setting. Understanding and accepting my tendencies as an ESTJ personality type helps me be more introspective and insightful of my approaches and how I treat people and convey expectations will make me a more aware of weaknesses and strengths and use the knowledge to improve how I engage with others.
These aristocrats, despite their high education and power, will do nothing to help win the war. They live like parasites on the body of Russia’s society. This is how Tolstoy describes this class in general, but he also depicts two representatives of this upper class, Andrew Bolkonsky and Pierre Bisuhov, who were the more intellectual ones, and whose lives and views of war and life changed as the result of the war. Andrew was interested in a military career, and wasn’t completely satisfied with the czar, while Pierre wasted his life on alcohol – his everyday activity.
It just takes one person to start a cycle of repeated hatred and suffering, but also only one person to break this chain and bring happiness into the world. The relationships at Wuthering Heights are based on envy and revenge and only bring pain. This is ironic as the perpetrator of abuse believes it will bring them relief from their pain. But Bronte points out the futility of carrying out revenge since even when fulfilled, it does not serve its purpose of relieving pain or restoring love. That can only be achieved when people stay true to the path of love and are tenacious enough to overcome their
Ivan Dmitritch, a character in the short story “The Lottery Ticket” by Anton Chekhow, is unstable. In moments of believing he won the lottery, Ivan became materialistic. He fantasized about his “new life [and how] it will be transform[ed]” (pg 199). Ivan imagined all the things he desired instead of appreciating what he already had. This in fact shows that he is unstable as all he determines about is the rich life and not distinguishing that he isolated himself from the person who loves him the most; his wife. As a result of isolation, Ivan became paranoid. While Ivan continues to dwell about the rich life, reality hits him as he ponders about all the hardships, such as all the relatives coming and “begin[ning to whine] like beggars” (pg 201).
