Our school has always been a home to different kind of activities for its students. These activities challenge our minds, our talents, our imagination and creativity. This fall our school hosted the "Rowena Ravenclaw's Tests of Logic" activity. It had us waiting for puzzles and hurring for submissions.
The activity started at the 1st of September and ended at the 1st of December 2013. Three challenging months kept us stand-by with beutifully made, Harry Potter related, logic puzzles. Each week we had to solve a different logic puzzle and if we did, we earned House points. But if we solved it really quickly and stood in the top 3, then we earned beans too!
I talked to some people who got involved with the activity, either by organizing it, or taking part in it. They were all excited and very pleased with the puzzles and I believe they all had a great time! I know I did.
First of all, I approached the organizers, the people who ran this activity, the people who made it happen: Amy Lupin, Matilde Rayne and Prof. Scarlet Leslie. I would like to thank you for hosting such a lovely activity in our school and I hope we can see it again some time in the future. I asked about how enjoyable it was to host this activity, if they enjoyed creating the puzzles and what was the most exciting thing they had to do during the activity. Well, I have to say that those organizers actually adore logic puzzles! I believe this is the reason why the activity was such a success. They tried to pass their enthusiasm for logic puzzles to others, and they succeeded. 80 people participated in the contest, with the majority actually sending a correct solution to 7 or more puzzles, earning the "Persistent Puzzler" award. The top 3 earned the "Logical Leader...

..., Jacqualine Snape, a third year Gryffindor, who earned the 3rd place, refers to time management as a secret to submit a solution.
Now, regarding Hufflepuffs who took part in the "Tests of Logic", I approached some of them - I actually talked to first year badgers - and they were all very happy about this activity. I also asked them what they think is the secret to solve a logic puzzle. Elizabeth Darby says, "Determination and stubbornness!" and Patricia Cleary says, "It's probably perseverance!" and I agree with them. Sometimes, when I tried to solve a puzzle, I got stuck. If it weren't my persistence and patience, then I wouldn't solve any of them. But then, this is a Hufflepuff feature.
I want to thank all that took the time to discuss with me about this wonderful activity. Let's all wait for the next one! HOL is full of surprises; you only have to be patient!
Reasoning Abilities: The dance moms are always causing problems with Abby and the other dance moms. When the moms get into arugments with the other moms, Abby steps in a gloats about her elite dance team and tells them their record of winnings. Another example of reasoning abilities is when Abby had enough of Kelly(Paige and Brooke) because they would leave after compeitions and Kelly would agrue with Abby. Abby finally had enough of Kelly and told her that her kid would not be allowed to come back to the team because of past
In “Reading, Reasoning, and Writing”, James Crosswhite teaches the reader to reason in order to formulate a convincing argument. After reading a piece, the first step is to think of a controversial question. Finding a question is hard, so Crosswhite suggests that you ask five questions: Who? What? When? Where? How? It’s also important to take note of things that you don’t understand or seems contradictory. He also suggests that the best questions can be the ones that are left unsaid. There are six types of stasis questions that make for an enthymeme including questions of fact, questions of definition, questions of interpretation, questions of value, questions of cause and effect, and questions of policy. After finding a question, you need
Hyana, you and the girls took time away from your busy schedule to have me hover over and overrun you with questions. It may not have been much for you but it meant the world to me! You already
Marriage is the biggest and final step between two young people who love one another more than anything. In the marriage proposals by Charles Dickens and Jane Austen we are able to see two different reasons for marriage. While Dickens takes a more passionate approach, Austen attempts a more formal and logical proposal. Rhetorical strategies, such as attitude and diction, have a great impact on the effect the proposals have on the women.
Since the first segment of the series was released in 1997, Harry Potter has been challenged by churches and parents due to the practicing of magic by children found within the books. The books have been removed from school shelves, discouraged by churches, and censored by parents. It is claimed that Harry Potter is devilish, satanic, and encourages children to practice the occult, damaging their religious views (LaFond). Therefore, many parents keep their children from reading the book series. Yet, Harry Potter has been such a positive influence on my so many lives. Evident through the movies, theme parks, stores, and much more, J.K. Rowling’s series has been an overwhelming success for many reasons (“Because it’s his…”). In order to encourage
The logical learners are lovers of certainty, authority, rules, and they are more comfortable with facts, policy, and hard skills. They like to make use of their brain for mathematical and logical reasoning and they recognize pattern easily as well as group information to help them learn and comprehend it. They are excellent with numbers, involve in complex calculations and remember the concepts of trigonometry and algebra and work out reasonable complex calculations mentally. Their pursuit in life will include sciences, mathematics, accounting, detective, law and computer programming. (Garner,
When Charlie Malone’s older sister, Kira, discovers his history project on ancient Egypt is due tomorrow, Charlie expects her to rat him out to their parents - instead, Kira reveals she is a witch and has the ability to transport him back in time to ancient Egypt. As Kira only uses a broom when sweeping and wouldn't know how to operate a wand if she had one, Kira tells Charlie she prefers to identify herself as a Slider (as she possesses the ability to “slide” through space and time). Charlie has his doubts about Kira’s claim, but arguing seems pointless when he finds himself staring down a sphinx, surrounded by hundreds of people dressed like ancient Egyptians. Although he would love to scale a pyramid or see a mummy, Charlie has to
After reading the text and based on my inference and intuition I agree with the belief that Mrs. Wright is guilty of the murder of her husband.
However, before I begin, on behalf of John and Angie I would like to thank everyone who has helped to make this the special day that it is - and I think we can all agree it has been splendid so far.
From the beginning of time the human species were hunters and gatherers collecting their foods from the wild and hunting animals for meat. However overtime as the world and individual societies developed they moved away from this method and more to producing their own foods. Based on the Gillian Crowther reading there three possible explanation to why hunter-gatherers moved from collecting food to producing their own foods.

Jane Austen’s novels have always played a large part in my life. My love for this nineteenth-century female author began with movie adaptations of her books; my interest quickly spiraled into the richness of her texts. I know that Jane Austen was not the norm for her time period. She was a female trying to live independently in a male dominated society, but she did not let the difficulty of her situation impede her success. When she was told that her stories would get her nowhere and that she would do best to abandon her career, she persevered. Jane Austen wrote many novels, and most of them became extremely popular. Jane Austen wrote her novels to support herself, and I believe that she used them to reveal truths about humanity, happiness, and perfection. All the characters that Austen created have one common theme: they desperately seek out their place in the world. This struggle plagued people from
The problem of time management can be said to be universal not only affecting students but also other people in careers. This problem is seen to transition from a person’s life from different cadres of his or her engagement specifically from home, school and at work. It is also a problem that is internal and not external.
Logic can be defined as the subject that teaches the rules for correct and proper reasoning or in simpler terms, it can be best described as common sense. Some refer to the "science" of logic but logic is really more than just a science. The science part “is the knowledge of the principles, laws, and methods of logic itself.” (Dolhenty, J; 2002). Logic must be put into action or else the knowledge provided within the science of logic is of little use. “We can, therefore, also speak of the "art" of logic, that is, the practical application of the science of logic to our everyday affairs.” (Dolhenty, J; 2002). Logic is not only intended to inform or instruct; it is also meant to assist in the proper use of our power of reasoning. As such, we can speak of logic as both a science and an art, a practical art meant to be applied in our everyday interactions.
Have you ever felt like life was not fair and there was nothing you could do about it? This is exactly how the feminist system of entailment made the women in Pride and Prejudice feel. Jane Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice is about five daughters who try to find husbands. Mrs. Bennet, the girl’s mom, is trying to implore one of her daughters to marry Mr. Collins so the estate can be passed down. It is required that one of the daughters marry Mr. Collins since he is the oldest male first cousin. The system of entailments says that if there are no male heirs in the nuclear family, then the estate will be passed down to the oldest first cousin (Pool). Mr. Collins is that particular oldest first cousin which is why Mrs. Bennett wants one of her daughters to marry him. The system of entailment dictates the lives of the five girls throughout the book. Pride and Prejudice demonstrates an uncorrupted example how the system of entailment was unfair to women because it solidified their low-standing place in a patriarchal society by forcing women to depend on the resources offered by a man.
