Rough Draft of Song Analysis
Ever wonder why there were so many modern songs about bullying and love but none about our environment? Well, no worries, because here comes “Radioactive,” by Imagine Dragons. I chose this song because it’s about how the environment is polluted. This analysis explains the meaning and the message of the song.
I chose this song because it is a very popular song and was a huge hit in 2012-2013. This song is all about pollution. Right from the beginning, they are talking about ash and dust in their face early in the morning. The ash and dust represent walls that are getting too old to tally, and the dust has formed like cataract over a person’s judgement. Then they talked about how some are trying to fight this bad
judgement. This is implied in “I raise my flags, don my clothes. It's a revolution, I suppose” This part describes that we all need to get together to fight this. Next, they talk about how they feel like this environment will make the future generations into prisoners of the poisons like gambling and thievery, and these poisons will spread faster faster than Ebola. Eventually, it will destroy the world. This is implied in “I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus This is it, the apocalypse.” After that, they talk about how the pollution which comes in many ways has made their insides explode and the chemicals in the air are leaving them gasping for air. This is implied in “I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones Enough to make my systems blow.” Finally, they talk about how the sun hasn’t gone out and there is hope in the “revolution” and it starts now by having good habits. they also talk about how everybody can make the good decisions deep inside. “I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones Enough to make my systems blow.”Overall this song represents what the world has become and is describing that we are the environment and that every action that we do affects the progress of the “revolution” inside all of us to have a clean and safe environment.
There was a vocal recital on October 19th, 2017 at 7:30PM, held at the performance hall in Mountain view college. Alex Longnecker, a tenor vocalist and Imre Patkai, (pianist) played a series of homophonic textured songs, some being sung in German and others in English. The Three selected songs I will be writing about are, The Lincolnshire Poacher, The Plough Boy, and Im Wunderschonen Monat Mai. This performance played a total of 24 Pieces, composed by 4 composers, being Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ernest Chausson, Benjamin Britten, and Robert Schumann.
This first song goes well with Holden because we see throughout the whole book, how Holden experiences loneliness. Holden says, “The first thing I did when I got off at Penn Station, I went into this phone booth. I felt like giving somebody a buzz” (Salinger 59) This is just one example of Holden’s loneliness. At this time he is just getting of the train realizing he has nobody to go to and nobody to talk to so he feeling like calling someone even if it’s just to talk to. n the song Talking To Myself, The lyrics say “Is anybody out there?/It feels like I'm talkin' to myself/No one seems to know my struggle/And everything I come from/Can anybody hear me?”(Eminem) This song by Eminem is a good example of Holden’s loneliness because throughout the song it
American Beauty/American Psycho was an album that was sung by the band Fall Out Boy in 2015. Fall Out Boy is an alternative/indie rock band with a little hint of pop in some of their songs. This album, which is the band’s most recent album, is full of a lot of good songs and songs that maybe some people wouldn’t like. Fall Out Boy is a face-paced band, which means their songs are faced-paced. A lot of their songs could be a little hard to understand for people who don’t listen to this kind of music. The album does not have many of these types of songs, which is why it is a favorite among Fall Out Boy fans.
“Over There” is a song written by George M. Cohan in 1917. Nora Bayes, Enrico Caruso, Billy Murray, Arthur Fields, and Charles King were among many who recorded the song. It was written as a propaganda piece encouraging young American men to join the army to fight in World War I. The song was incredibly popular, selling over two million copies of sheet music and one million copies of recordings by the end of the war. Cohan, the writer, was eventually even awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his work on this song.
Hip-Hop’s criticism of George W. Bush is a good example of hip-hop’s reflection of Black public opinion. The Republican candidate who already had a low approval rating of 57% amongst African-Americans received an even lower approval rating after his lackluster efforts to support Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 (Jones, 2003; Cillizza & Sullivan 2013).
This song talks a lot about the baggage of the past that people hold onto instead of letting it go. All that baggage is only going to end up hurting you more and more instead of helping you in any way possible. An example is the opening
Macklemore is a rapper who is independent of a label, and gained fame in leaps and bounds when he reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with his debut single “Thrift Shop” and consequently “Can’t Hold Us,” not only being the first artist to reach the number one spot without a label since 1994, but also becoming the first artist to have their first two singles top the charts. Macklemore uses his unique position as a well renowned rapper to produce thought provoking lyrics that will be listened to by millions, without the common themes of hip hop music. Rap is commonly thought of as mindless lyrics and beats about women, drugs, and violence; however, Macklemore revolutionized this trend with the release of his debut album The Heist. But even before that he was releasing music that did not fit the cookie cutter formula of hip hop, most notable was the release of “Otherside.” Macklemore, through
Perhaps the most important part of the songwriting process is the beginning. How should a songwriter begin the creation of a song? Robin Frederick, a songwriter who has produced over 500 songs throughout her career, suggests that the best place to begin is with the title. The title acts as the guide to a song. It is the essence of the message that a songwriter wants to leave with their listeners. As Frederick describes it, “Think of your title as the peak of a pyramid. The rest of the song is made up of the building blocks that support it.”. Finding a title is of vital importance. It should be a short, attention grabbing, and easy to remember word or phrase.
This song is really touching my heart, obviously to say, it is a warm song; some people said that the Beatles were overrated. I don't think that's true. I think they're exactly as popular as they deserve to be. Also their song are still appealing and charming until now, people can’t deny that the Beatles had a huge influence on Pop and Rock music than any other band. If anything I think they're underpaid because of people saying they're overrated. All the song was describing a really nice picture and showing it in front of us.
In the DJ Floppyfeet and MaxxJamez song “Firework”, the artists display a braggadocio attitude towards a luxurious life and relate the flashy lifestyle to the bright and captivating visuals of fireworks. The pair uses the juxtaposition of dazzling fireworks to the extravagant lifestyle they wish to lead to exemplify and paint a vivid picture of exactly what they want. DJ Floppyfeet and MaxxJamez detail what kind of life the common person wishes to lead in their excessive use of onomatopoeia, hyperboles, and imagery.
“A Summer in Ohio” is sung by Anna Kendrick in the film The Last Five Years. Throughout this song Anna states things that she could be doing instead of spending her summer in Ohio. This song relates the subject of opportunity cost. The opportunity cost of an item is what must be given up to obtain that item. One example is when Anna sings, “I could wander Paris after dark, take a carriage ride through Central Park, but it wouldn't be as nice as a summer in Ohio where I'm sharing a room with a "former" stripper and her snake: Wayne.” It is obvious that one person cannot be in two places at once. The choice that Anna made to spend her summer in Ohio meant that she had to give up the other ideas for her summer plans. The opportunity cost of Anna
How did rock and roll all start? According to “Larry Birnbaum, author of the new book "Before Elvis" everyone thinks they know the story of rock and roll” (Voice of America, 2013). Birnbaum explains if you ask any average person where rock and roll came from they will say it came from Blues, Delta Blues like Robert Johnson or Muddy Waters, but he disagrees. He points out that “Little Red Rooster” version of the Blues did not become part of rock music until the 1960’s, when the Rolling Stones embraces Delta Blues. Also, other stories that rock came from rhythm and blues, or R&B? He states it doesn’t tell the whole story.” When they do these histories of rock ‘n’ roll, they’ll say that rock ‘n’ roll came from R&B” (Voice of America, 2013). Every artist builds from the previous generation’s work.
The song that I choose to do this assignment on is Fight the Power by Public Enemy. Fight the Power was written in 1989 and quickly became a street anthem for millions of youths. It reflects with issues dealing with both the Civil Rights Movement and to remind everyone that they too have Constitutional Rights. This particular song is about empowerment but also fighting the abuse of power that is given to the law enforcement agencies. It gave citizens of the U.S a more modern outlook on the many struggles that not only the African American community is up against but the other minority groups as well. The song’s message was eventually supposed to bring people together and make the world a better place, even though some teens saw it as a way
“ A Milli, a milli, a mill,i a milli, a milli, a milli, a milli, a milli …” “A Milli” is the epitome of Southern Hip Hop. The iconic track was originally released as a single from “Lil Wayne’s” upcoming album Tha Carter lll, which would later become one of the greatest albums in recorded history. “A Milli” hit spot number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Lil Wayne yet another top ten hit and the second highest peaking song on chart. If this song were to be played today, despite it has been 9 years from its release most people would be able to recite the song word for word. “Okay, you’re a goon but what’s a goon to a goblin."
“Buy it, use it, break it, fix it, / Trash it, change it, mail – upgrade it” (Pentatonix 1.1-2). sung by the up and coming acapella group Pentatonix. The first verse of their most known song makes you feel like robots are sing the song base on how almost robotic sounding the vocals are plus with all the vocals and the sound effects in the background. Pentatonix is a five-member acapella group: Scott, Mitch, Kristie, Avi and Kevin. They are known for covertly Daft Punk’s songs and medley into acapella arrangements. The group was publicly notarized when they completed and won on the third season of The Sing Off. Scott, Mitch, Kristie, and Avi do the vocals and Kevin does the vocal percussion or beat-boxing. Pentatonix’s acapella and beat-boxing adds meaning to Daft Punk’s medley when the group combines different verses to make one acapella arrangement. In
