A tragedy is a drama or literary work in which the main character is brought to ruin or suffer extreme sorrow. There’s a long lasting feud in Verona, Italy. The Montagues and The Capulets are sworn enemies.Romeo a Montague and Juliet a Capulet fall in love and must keep it a secret, and their fate brings both of them to their death. Romeo best friend dying,marrying Juliet, and going to Juliet's grave all posse his inability to cope with unfavorable circumstances.
Romeo couldn’t could not cope of his best friend Mercutio being dead and all of his anger went out on Tybalt instead;“ Alive in triumph, and Mercutio’s slain? Away to heaven respective lenity, and fire-eyed fury be my conduct now!”(3.1.122-124). Romeo is saying that it is unfair for Tybalt to be breathing and Mercutio dead and he could not forgive him even if he was Juliet's cousin. This shows that Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy because Romeo could not cope with his best friends dying. Which resulted in Tybalt dying and getting himself kicked out of Verona. Also, him doing this puts Friar Lawrence in a bad position because him marry Romeo and Juliet privately without consent goes against his religion; “And all combine, save what thou must combine by holy marriage. When, and where, and how we met, we wooed, and made exchange of vow, I’ll tell thee as we pass; but this I pray, that thou consent to marry us today”(2.3.63-67). Romeo is asking Friar to marry Juliet and him that day. This shows when Romeo can not cope with the fact he can not marry Juliet, so he goes and asks someone to do the wrong thing with him.
