In fact, not only does Shakespeare believe time is important, but he also stresses that time is fragile and just seconds could affect someone's life. For instance, During the balcony scene Juliet says to Romeo "O, swear not by the moon, the inconstant moon; that monthly changes in her circled orb; lest that thy love prove likewise variable"(Shakespeare Act 2. Scene 2 109-111). This quote is saying that Juliet believes that things are moving too quickly but Romeo believes otherwise. However this isn’t the only time time was rushed. During scene 3 act 1 where Mercutio and Tybalt are fighting Romeo says, “Ask for me tomorrow, and you shall find me a grave man”(Shakespeare scene 3. act 1. 65-66). This is the scene where Romeo comes back after marrying Juliet and watching Mercutio and Tybalt fight. Therefore If it wasn’t for Romeo rushing the marriage this might have never happened. This is exactly why time should not be overlooked and this shows what a consequence could …show more content…
The Butterfly Effect is a great example thats leads into time, It states that, “when a butterfly moves its wings somewhere in the world it can cause a tornado in another part of the world” (Radwan). For example, “ A worker is mistreated by his boss so he decided to quit. Before he quit he spoke to three other workers and they decided to quit as well. After they were all unemployed they decided to start their own company which over the years became very successful, they found themselves now competing against the old company. Under the pressure of being in a fierce competition the old company declared bankruptcy” (Radwan). However there is another way that your life could change within just a few seconds. For instance, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. For example, “A man named Tsutomu Yamaguchi was on a business trip to Hiroshima when all the sudden the Atomic Bomb went off blinding him and leaving burns everywhere” (Valle). While some people may say you can control what you do whenever you want to but, you can’t control what other people are doing and you might have no idea what is going to happen. In fact an english couple, “Jenny and Jason Cairns-Lawrence have been in the wrong place at the wrong time 3 times. First in 9/11 terrorist attack, second in London the underground suicide attack, and lastly in Mumbai, India terrorist attack” (Valle). They had no
Romeo is asking Friar Laurence to marry him and Juliet, when they met just hours ago. The quote makes Romeo seem very impulsive because they just met hours ago and he's already asking Juliet to marry him. Don't you think you ought to let there be at least more than one day before you marry someone, well in this case Romeo and Juliet don't think so. I believe this is very foolish of them, because them trying to be together kills both of them. This young man obviously does not know what he wants
Romeo Montague is considered an atrocious role model because of his repeatedly impulsive and immature attitude. He tends to rush into things and makes major life choices on a whim. “But this I pray/That thou consent to marry us to-day” (2.3.64-65). This proves that Romeo is impulsive and impatient. There was no rational reason for Romeo and Juliet to get married that soon. Had they waited until they received their parents
Who would be willing to die for their loved ones? Romeo and Juliet would and did. Romeo and Juliet’s love and death brought two families together who could not even remember the origin of their hate. When the parents saw what their children's love for each other, they realized that their fighting had only led to suffering and insoluble conflict. Romeo and Juliet loved each other to an extent that they killed themselves rather than live apart. They did it with no hiatus. Juliet says before she kills herself, “O happy dagger, This is thy sheath. There rust and let me die.”( 5, 3, 182-183) demonstrating how she would rather die than not be with him.
Romeo changes throughout the book. When Romeo went to the Capulets party, he was in love with Rosaline. He saw Juliet and immediately loved her. In act two scene two it Romeo says this about Juliet, "Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven, Having some business, do entreat her eyes To twinkle in their spheres till they return." He compares her eyes to stars in the night sky. Romeo talks about Juliet and is wanting to talk to her. This shows how Romeo is loving and sweet. In the last act of the book Romeo sees Juliet dead in the tomb. She is not really dead, but he doesn't know that. He kills himself so he can be with her in heaven. Romeo is a very loving person, but in one scene he turns into a very hateful person.
In act one scene three of Romeo and Juliet Lord Capulet states “…She hath not seen the change of fourteen years. Ere we may think her ripe to be a bride.” This means that Juliet is not quite fourteen years old and her father is not sure if she is ready to become a wife and mother. There are many differences between how people marry today, and how they married in the time of Romeo and Juliet. Some of the differences are when the people marry, why people marry, and also the level of maturity people marry at.
In act III, fate takes its first victim. Mercutio, Romeo's best friend and companion, avenges Romeo by fighting Tybalt, Romeo's enemy who is also Juliet's cousin. Mercutio is slain and foreshadows Romeo's future; "Ask for me to-morrow, and you shall / find me a grave man (3/1/89-90)." Romeo is extremely grave afterwards. He kills Tybalt and is banished from Verona forever. He realizes that to love an enemy can lead to devastating events, if one does not take enough time to deal with the situation at hand.

In Romeo and Juliet there is a recurring theme of haste, which leads to a plethora of problems. Juliet was undecided on whether she would marry Romeo but then Juliet reviewed her options and chose to marry Romeo.. “(Juliet)’If your intentions as a lover are truly honorable and/you want to marry me, send me word tomorrow.’” (Shakespeare 2.2.144-145) Love can change someone's perspective in a matter of minutes. That perspective all depends on the events prior to the sudden change. In Romeo's haste he kills himself over Juliet because he thinks he doesn’t have anymore options now that his true love is dead.“‘Here’s to my love!’ ROMEO drinks the poison.” Being in love can cause people to think irrationally and therefore ruin what they once had. Love isn’t always brought up to be a fairy tale because most of the time it will end up with someone getting hurt emotionally or
The expression, “Timing is everything”, could not be more true than it is in the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Timing is responsible for many of the tragedies that occur in the play. In the story, Romeo is heartbroken because the girl, he ‘loves’ doesn’t love him back. During this time his friends and him crash a party thrown by the Capulets, Juliet’s family, and Romeo is in hopes of seeing the girl. At this party, Romeo meets Juliet and falls in love. Later in the play, Romeo kills Juliet’s cousin, and is banished. At the same time, the Capulets want Juliet to marry a man she doesn’t love. At the end of the play, Juliet makes up a plan to fake her death. She writes a letter to tell Romeo of her plan, and gives it to the Friar to deliver. At the time the letter was sent, there was a plague which delayed the letters delivery. Romeo’s friend, Balthasar, saw Juliet ‘dead’ and assumed the worst. He rushed back to Romeo to tell him that his wife was dead. Shocked by the news, Romeo went back to Venice, and saw Juliet ‘dead’. He couldn’t bear with the thought of her dead, and his life without Juliet, so Romeo killed himself, right before Juliet died. Seeing Romeo dead, Juliet felt the same that he did when he saw her dead, and killed her self as well. All of these events, that were caused by timing, lead up to the death of both Romeo and Juliet. In the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, unfortunate timing is what leads to the tragic outcome of the play.
“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name;” (Shakespeare, 536). In the book, ‘Romeo and Juliet”, by William Shakespeare there is a deeper meaning that Shakespeare is trying to portray other than parents cannot control their children’s hearts. He is trying to portray that a name is only a name and it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things and that even with a different name that person will still be the same person they have always been. Shakespeare is using the characters: Juliet, Romeo, Lord Capulet, Friar Lawrence, and the Nurse to get this message across to the reader or the viewer.
To sum up the whole story Romeo and Juliet’s love never had a chance because time was not on their side and neither were the two families. The young couple thought that everything would be solved if they hurried up and got married and that is what they did and it ended in disaster. This story, by William Shakespeare, is a perfect example of how falling in love quickly can be good in some instances and bad in others.
What makes a piece of literature relevant or irrelevant to a society? There have been many debates on the relevance about particular pieces of literature, especially old literature, in the modern day. Their relevance can be judged by how they address issues happening in society when they were written compared to those same issues today. It can also be judged on whether the themes present can apply to the modern day. And even if a story portrays issues that are either resolved or irrelevant today it can still have value on how it portrays human nature The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a relevant work for a person in modern times due to its themes on suicide, human recklessness, and violence and revenge.
Romeo and Juliet have known each other all of twelve hours at this point, yet they have rushed to marriage. Their love is impairing their sensibility, helping them to ignore the consequences and repercussion that could come from rushing their
