The empire of Rome started out with twins being abandoned by a river and raised by a wolf. A the legend goes these twins would start one of the biggest empires in history. Myths like this one were used to explain things to people of the Roman Empire. Once called a religion, now called myths, these stories have survived centuries and are still being told today. Roman mythology has played a big role in today’s pop culture (in games and movies) and how many things named after them are still used today.

In the names of our months, planets and in many names of businesses. The first six months of the year are either named after a Roman god or a festival from the roman religion. The first month, January, is named after the Roman god Janus, the god of gateways. It make sense it is named after him since January is the first month. February is named after the roman festival Februa. All of the planets are named after Roman gods or goddesses, even Pluto who isn’t a planet. Nike is named after the Roman goddess of well… Nike. She is the winged goddess of victory and also a shoe brand.
Even though some names have survived, whole stories are are still being told today in games, books or movies. Games like Smite, Total War Rome II and Ryse: Son of Rome, all have Roman myths buried in the gameplay. In Smite you even get to play as the gods. In the ‘Heroes of Olympus’ series, some kids are born demi-gods, since one of their parents is a god and the other is a human. The story follows many different demigods. Movies like Spartacus and Gladiator have Roman Mythology imbedded within them.
So much of our culture comes from Roman mythology. Things that we don’t even think about has information from Roman Myths. The role myths has played in our society is huge. If all that information was lost about the mythology then our culture would be very
