Since Edward Samuel Rogers’ death in December of 2008, Rogers Communications has had two CEOs, surprisingly none of them were his son. Nadir Mohamed became CEO in 2009 and retired in 2013, when the torch was passed on to Guy Laurence, who was the head of Vodaphone U.K.
Rogers has always been a leader in innovative technology and services, from the invention of the first radio to different levels of cable services and the country’s first cellular and high-speed network.
Rogers has invested billions of dollars purchasing successful businesses such as magazines like Macleans, radio stations (680 & CFRB), sports facilities (Rogers Centre) as well as investing in sporting organizations. On December 9th, 2011 Rogers along with Bell bought a majority stake (79.53%) in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE) which is a Canadian professional sports business that owns the Leafs, the Raptors, Toronto FC, and the Marlies. They are also property owners of the Air Canada Centre which is the Leafs and the Raptors home arena. It’s clear they want to reach e...

The company that I have chosen is Comcast Cable Company. Currently, Comcast is the leader in the home entertainment industry. Comcast offers their customer's: cable television, internet service, home phone service, television screaming app, home security, and mobile service. The company is working to compete with AT&T/ Direct TV, Dish Network, Hulu, Netflix and sling Tv. The competitors do offer cheaper service, but Comcast is known mostly for its great internet service. Xfinity Instant TV and Xfinity Mobile are the newest product that has been launched by Comcast. Xfinity Mobile has two phone plans, and you must have Xfinity internet service. Xfinity Mobile plans are: By the Gig data and Unlimited data. The By the
Their satellite TV division reaches almost a million homes across Canada. Shaw Communications, with its specialization in Cable and Satellite TV, has a very solid market base in Western Canada, especially now, with the purchase of the Winnipeg –based Canwest Global franchise. This characteristic is a major competitive advantage against the other three telecom giants. Shaw has been trying very hard to expand its services into the high speed internet and wireless communications market in order to compete with the other three major Canadian telecom companies, and this pathway has seen varying degrees of success. Although this company specializes in the cable and satellite T.V sectors, it is not a big competitor in the mobile industry, where there is more money to be made. Shaw is also not at the top of the list in terms of its dividend payouts. This affects interested investors as there are other higher dividend distributers which may be more attractive. Another negative point which affected Shaw’s profits in the first quarter of 2015, was the introduction of Shomi video streaming platform, in partnership with Rogers. Shaw recorded a $13 million equity loss in the start up of this programming. Shaw has also been losing customers due to comparable products from companies such as Netflix and web sites such as

AT&T’s roots stretches all the way back to 1875, when Alexander Graham Bell created the first telephone. The main reason AT&T was created was to exploit the creation of the telephone. AT&T became a parent company to the Bell system, which was a phone company monopoly. They created a long distance telephone network that went from New York to Chicago and then on to San Francisco. Then in 1984 AT&T split into eight different phone companies. They built out to Denver in 1899 and then they hit a rough patch, the signal wasn’t too strong. Luckily, AT&T created the first practical electrical amplifier in 1913. And this made transcontinental communication possible. Bell’s patent expired in 1894 and only Bell telephone could only legally operate in the U.S. The number of telephones grew as phone wires spread across the nation, there where about 3,317,000 phones. The only downside to this early story is that, only phones with the same phone company could contact each other, this was being fixed in 1913. In 1925 there was a new president, Walter Gifford, he sold International Western Electrical Company to the ITT for 33 million to make AT&T universal. In January 1, 1984 was changed and revitalized, it no longer was the bell system. It had a new global icon, as you see today. IN 1984 AT&T carried around 37.5 million calls a day. CEO, Robert Allen, announced that on Septemb...

During the 1930s, the radio was designed, and soon enough CBC (Canadian network) was made. It gave national coverage and was the basis of bringing the nation's people together through near-instant communication. Canadians were also united as a country with Foster Hewitt’s familiar “Hello Canada” introduction. Hockey, one of the biggest traditions and the most important and key thing that brings Canadians together was also made popular during the
