GM factories closed down in Flint, resulting in unemployment for of thousands of workers. These laid off auto workers are products of generations of auto workers. GM has been a Flint way of life since the factories first opened. But, finding that operation and labor costs were substantially less in Mexico, Roger Smith filled for bankruptcy and closed the plants down. The consequences of this shut-down were devastating to Flint. The rat population exceeded that of humans, houses were abandoned, and families who couldn’t afford the rent were evicted. The citizens who remained in Flint were now residents of the city with the highest crime rate in all of America. These are just a few of the issues which spurred Michael Moore’s pursuit for the illusive Roger Smith. Roger and Me, on a basic level falls into the Interactive category with its involved interviews and archival footage. On page thirty-three, Nichols comments on the use of archival footage in the Interactive Mode of Documentary. Writing that old news clips are often appended onto expert and witness interviews as to avoid reenactments and voice of god commentaries. Moore uses archival footage in several different ways. First, he uses it to show the way Flint t used to be. There are shots of a parade used while Moore talks about growin...

When Maya was three years old, her parents got divorced. After they divorced, she and her older brother, Bailey Jr., were sent to live with their grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas. They were not sent in a normal fashion, however. Angelou and her brother were placed on a train by themselves by their father. Their father then put a tag on each of them that said “To Whom It May Concern, send these two to Stamps, Arkansas.” With only each other for support, Angelou and her brother made their way to Stamps. In Stamps, their grandmother Annie Henderson owned a general store. While in Stamps, Angelou was subjected to a great deal of racism and discrimination because she was an African American. She grew up during a time where there was an unequal status between blacks and whites. Throughout her whole time in Stamps her grandmother helped her develop a strong sense of self so that she could withstand those racist times they lived in. Her grandmother knew that if she could help Angelou understand who she is and what she stood for, then none of those racist people could get to her.

Even though Moore is a known activist, this does not mean he knows nor has any experience of what it takes to run a country. Some obvious information in nature does hold true and there are many other ways which can handle these situations, and it is not coincidence that politicians end up with a lot of fancy lifestyles by the choices they are currently making. And, this would not be the same if money was poured correctly elsewhere, but, that doesn’t mean Moore’s ideas would reverse all issues haunting the nation.
Finally, LTC Moore’s bravery is one to marvel at in the movie but his leadership character is an excellent example of how a leader should conduct his/herself. This character can also be applied in the business world also. Assessment, preparation, and research should always be analyzed to see how a leader could better improve a firm. Honesty and flexibility allow for mistakes to easily identified and corrected. Company leaders could get some real situational value from implying LTC Moore’s example of leadership to their management of employees.

Nursing profession has made leaps and bounds since I embarked onto the field of nursing in 1993. While I was proud of being a nurse, I did not feel the need to be ambitious nor competitive in my field. Aside from the well known fact about the nursing shortage, I was not familiar with the numerous advancements that had been made by the profession. Most recently, I have come to realize how sophisticated and respected nursing profession has become. Today, nurses as the highly valued commodity, need to be available to skillfully meet the challenging needs of the public. It has now become clear that nursing is engaged in the process of reshaping its function and form to accommodate the dynamic healthcare needs. I am convinced that nursing education is the key that will unlock the essential components in transforming the culture and practice of nursing.
