1. Introduction
Construction industry in most countries amounts to 10–20% of the GNP, making it the largest economic employing sector. Construction work is labor intensive. Robots are used widely to help human workers in construction sites. They demonstrate an autonomous and simple approach to construction. Therefore, construction robotics has been a very hot research area in the construction industry [1].
The main goal of this paper is to convince the entire construction world to incorporate robotic systems when managing modern buildings to save manpower and improve efficiency. The objectives of this paper include:
• Studying recent applications and projects for using robots and automation in the construction industry.
• Setting opportunities and challenges facing the use of robots in the construction industry.
• Studying about companies which have Robots and how they are faring.
• Setting framework for better planning and control of construction operations.
2. The Construction Industry
There must be changes in Construction Industry. These changes are important because people are shifting to cities. Table 1 shows the necessary information as how it was in 1995 and how it is in 2015. If we observe the developing countries there is 11% rise in 2 decades as compared to others. This shows that even developing countries are shifting to cities for their employment. These cities need the most Construction work for their development. But these cities impose their own requirements on Construction management.
In Germany, production in construction has fallen 35% in 5 years; 15% in 3 years in Netherlands. The main reason for this is because of “chip” and “chip industry” which has completely changed the society as a whole. Th...

Fabrication at the factory utilizes a mix of robotics and manual labor to produce the body of the V-Rod. Robots that are designed to cut pipe are capable of completing a single operation within 3 seconds. Other fabrication robots utilize 1800 watt lasers that can perform cutting operations at the rate of 100 inches per minute. Where robotics can be used to perform high speed cutting and welding operations, skilled workers are a...
The Golf Retrieving Mobile Robot is an undergraduate thesis of the DLSU students. It is a robot that is capable of retrieving golf balls automatically without the assistance of a person. This is very useful in a driving range or the area where golfers practice their swings to hit golf balls. The robot is named Greg, it is able to accumulate golf balls on the field. The problems that might arise are the confusion of the driving ranges and re-use of golf balls.
Construction workers and not just brawns they have brains too. Building a house or constructing any type of building is not just a matter of wood and nails, it takes very precise measurements and lots and lots of planning. There has to be blueprints drawn then getting the owner’s input and asking them what they want and plan according to that. Then they must also have all of the physical knowledge on how to build a house and how to use all the many different types of equipment needed for the job. As Rose states physical work is not just physical it involves social acts
Construction Management is the overall planning, outlook, coordination, budget and control of a construction project from start to finish. Without them, construction projects would be very unorganized and chaotic. They make sure projects run smoothly and efficiently. They work with electricians, plumbers, carpenters and general contractors to produce the safest and best way to complete the project for the customer. Being a construction manager is a good job because they help many people build what they need.
Construction industries are classified largely which comprise of skillful employee and general workers. As opined by Cassidy (2006), these are intrinsically demanding, hazar...
When starting construction on a new building, there are plenty of things that can and will go wrong. You will start to lay out the plumbing and find that it clashes with a wall or beam that cannot be moved. To finish your project, you must take more time and more money to adjust to the new layout. Another scenario is the owners won’t let you start construction because they can’t see the end result or where the specific design implements that had asked for are located. For the past few decades the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry has been looking for a solution to this problem. Projects would be set back due to design oversights. Without anything to predict these problems before they happen, these little setbacks were a common occurrence. Once building information modeling (BIM) was born, it was like their prayers had been answered. The future was here.
In 2010, robots are very different from the expectations set in 1965. “The latest advances in technology have led to robots that look very much like humans but are mostly able to perform only limited functions.” (Bar-Cohen 12). Yoseph Bar-Cohen and David Hanson’s book ‘The Coming Robot Revolution” is very clear ab...
Pneumatic actuator mainly consists of a piston, cylinder, and valves and ports. The piston is covered by a diaphragm or seal which keeps the air in the upper portion of the cylinder allowing air pressure to force the diaphragm downward moving the piston underneath which turn moves the valve stem, which is linked to the internal parts of the actuator. Pneumatic actuators may only have one spot for a signal input, top or bottom, depending on action
Robots are used in factories and even in people’s homes. So what if the Terminator film series got it right? Human workers, who work in factories, machineries, mills, everyday human controlled jobs like cash registers operators, are being replaced by robotic automation. This is a major problem for the everyday employee. Jobs that were once held by human workers, are now being replaced every day by robot “workers”.

Today's problems are more complex and the needs of current and future societies have created challenges for engineering unparalleled in our history. The use of electronic data collection methods and the application of computers has revolutionized the practice of Civil Engineering. To interpret and satisfy these needs, Civil Engineers currently direct the spending of more than one tenth of Canada's gross national product, more than any other professional group. The Civil Engineer must deal with the human impact of engineering. Social, moral and legal issues concern us to a far greater degree than ever before.
While the process behind designing a machine is creative, it should be noted though that eventually engineers were going to design robots to perform these tasks. Leonardo Da Vinci sketched early ideas for a helicopter in the thirteenth century, which only became a reality in twentieth century. Robotic maids that can clean the house was a futuristic idea that was seen in the 1960's cartoon "The Jetsons", but the idea of having a robot vacuum the floor has only became popular in the last year or so with iRobot's Roomba. Once engineers found the way to control their machines through the use of microcontrollers and programming, the cost effectiveness and precision of machines enabled them to be used in a wide variety of tasks. Although the ideas for the next tasks for machines may not be creative, the process that goes into developing that machine is a creative process.
...ts could be exposed to nuclear emission and not be harmed, so they could be replaced chemists who do the nuclear experiments. Third, vehicles manufacture requires sophisticated installation, which demand programmed robots to do the exact job. Moreover, installing vehicles parts mandate welding to wrap the parts as it could be done easily by robots. As Farum (2012) stated that robotic welding is cheaper, faster and could improve companies’ competitiveness.
