In a world where billionaires and celebrities can have more influence over the public than government, the word power has become interchangeable with success. Although many of us have fantasized of our lives if we were famous, the majority of the population have given up on the notion of becoming famous, and have become more realistic towards future dreams and desires. Why is that all blogs or media sites only pay attention to the bad behavior? We see videos of famous people getting drunk, doing drugs, and even being disrespectful. Eventually, we see this domino effect on young girls, they start being rebellious, start to talk back to their parents even go to parties and drink. Nowadays, celebrities are seen as role models to these kids. What kind of example are these celebrities providing to teenagers when they can barely control their life. Role models are supposed to be someone you admire, someone you look up to and try and follow their examples. Not someone who lives a fake life and you barely know. As stated in an article called “Why this generation is so completely obsessed with the idea of Celebrity” Adam Pliskin explains the real reason to why we follow celebrities as much as we do. This is because we secretly want fame ourselves.
“Wealth, as a byproduct of fame, provides immediate, tangible evidence of celebrity’s distinction and staying power. Fame’s windfall goes a long way in lifting financial burdens, opening the celebrity to experiences that are special. Money is no longer a “worry,” and provides “the glory side, the financial side of being famous.” Some celebrities go from “not being able to afford a home,” to multi-million dollar contracts. They are our royalty.”, according to Donna Rothwell’s essay “Being a Celebrity; A Phenomenology of Fame”(Rothwell page 191).Basically, wealth dissolves the concern regarding financial status that the average citizen feels 24/7.Like most people, to acquiring such assets does provide a sense of a luxurious life. Miley Cyrus has been a household name since the success of her hit show Hannah Montana. Long gone is the thirteen-year old girl who played America’s sweetheart on Disney Channel. Today the media portrays her as an out of control twenty-two year old superstar. The recent confrontation on the 2015 Video Music Awards with Nicki Minaj is a prime example of how Hannah Montana has turned herself into a thing of the past. The transformation from Hannah Montana to Miley Cyrus has caused her to change her appearance, morals, and music.

She was introduced to fame at a very young age and is now still growing up in front of the world. She was born Destiny Hope Cyrus because her parents believed she would achieve greatness (Miley Cyrus Biography). They had a lot of hope and promise for their young daughter. Unfortunately, Twenty-first century pop music artist such as Headly have been able to profit heavily from the glamorization of engaging in risky sexually behaviors, and and untouchable “I can do anything” attitude as a way to achieve popularity and fame. Thus, the individual identities of these artist’s young fans, due to the frequency of exposure to such uncensored topics, have become much more open to engaging in risky behaviors such as experimentation with drugs, sex, and alcohol with little consideration of consequence.
That’s why I think Carrie Underwood should come speak to our school. She’s inspiring to all ages and she made all her dreams come true. She’s one of the only stars that hasn’t let the fame got to

However, the many faults projected on Cyrus are seen as negative because of differences in behavior and mannerisms of Cyrus during her Hannah Montana days and now. Through her Instagram page posts and captions, Cyrus is using her Instagram to expresses how she is happy with who she is and that she is being who she wants to be not what the media wants her to be. What many fans are requesting is that Cyrus reverts to her old ways, to her time playing on the show Hannah Montana. During the show, Cyrus played a young pop star living a double life as a regular teen. However, Cyrus has tried her hardest to step away from her past life. I find that very understandable being that Cyrus expresses in many interviews that she disliked growing up on T.V. In an interview with Megan Friedman, a news editor for the online magazine Marie Claire, Cyrus stated that playing that role made her have unrealistic beliefs about what was perfect. In her show Cyrus at the time 11, is prepped head-to-toe with weave, dentures, and covered in make-up and she felt that this person is not someone children should look up to because of how much wasn’t truly her. Cyrus wants people to
Media is forcing today’s youth to grow up faster and faster. Miley Cyrus was unfortunately used as the poster child for young girls trying to be older. After the shoot, which was obviously not initiated by her, she had to come out and publically apologize. On top of that, Disney also threatened to void her contract if adult like behaviors continued (Toomey 1). With it being well known that only a few companies control most of the media we see, does it not appear ironic that Miley Cyrus was exemplified in such a negative light? From the time her publicist was con...

Celebrity culture today is epidemic; some might agree that it is sweeping up America in a harmful way, while one might argue that it is beneficial to our society. According to the article “The Effects of Celebrity Role Models on Kids and Teens” by Eliza Martinez,“Many celebrities do not make a secret of alcohol or drug abuse and the glamorization of dying due to an overdose in the media might make your child feel that using these substances is acceptable.” The fans see the celebrities’ work and not the person themself. This is the main reason celebrities make such terrible role models. The fans will idolize them, but they don’t know what the celebrity is like on a personal level. They don’t know the opinion of the celebrity on certain issues. If they did and they agreed with the celebrity, then there is a whole other reason to look up to this person. If a fan disagreed, then they could still like their work and just agree to disagree, but it will never be like that. It is no one’s fault, but that is the main reason celebrities aren’t good role models. That is why parents, siblings, friends, other family, and even fictional characters work as role models. The people that look up to them know their role model personally and therefore know whether or not they agree with the role model’s

And during adulthood, we always look back to the wonders of our youth. Show business is very hard for anyone, particularly for kids. Children do not belong in the entertainment industry. Young stars often complain about a stolen childhood, the pressure they have to face at a young age forcing them to mature fast, and the risks of exposure to dirty show business while still an innocent playful child. Celebrities who were exposed to the limelight at a tender age become scarred for life by early success and tend to compensate for the childhood they were deprived of during their later years in life.
