Since the 2010 launch of the photo sharing social media app, Instagram has been an outlet for users to express themselves and show their true identity through pictures of themselves, friends, family, and the world around them. Being that 55% of users are between ages 18-29 years of age (Duggan 2015), a range of users are still trying to figure out who they are and may be influenced by what 's posted by their peers and celebrities. Through mainstream media, there seems to be the belief that with using Instagram, allows others to create and alternate personality and deceive those on social media. While there is a possibility that using Instagram could be for the act of deception, I believe that through the analysis of singer/actress Miley Cyrus …show more content…
When the name, Miley Cyrus is spoken in mainstream media, it is usually associated with doing something that is believed to be out of her character. However, the many faults projected on Cyrus are seen as negative because of differences in behavior and mannerisms of Cyrus during her Hannah Montana days and now. Through her Instagram page posts and captions, Cyrus is using her Instagram to expresses how she is happy with who she is and that she is being who she wants to be not what the media wants her to be. In doing so she is also promoting self-acceptance and living a happy life. Miley Cyrus has gone against the critics and fans that pleading about they want the old Miley Cyrus back. What many fans are requesting is that Cyrus reverts to her old ways, to her time playing on the show Hannah Montana. During the show, Cyrus played a young pop star living a double life as a regular teen. However, Cyrus has tried her hardest to step away from her past life. I find that very understandable being that Cyrus expresses in many interviews that she disliked growing up on T.V. In an interview with Megan Friedman, a news editor for the online magazine Marie Claire, Cyrus stated that playing that role made her have unrealistic beliefs about what was perfect. In her
I feel as though more and more teens of this generation are using social media in order to seek approval of attention of others. Since they are expected to use social media in a way to create an online audience, they post pictures of themselves and activities so that they can get a “yes” or “no” response from their audience. If someone posts a picture online and someone who is considered a “friend” makes a positive comment on the photo, then they have received approval of their actions. If someone makes a negative remark on the photo, then they have received disapproval. She uses various examples of how young adults use social media to create a persona of themselves, such as when girls post sexualized pictures of themselves and create avatars of themselves (Orenstein, 448). This means that how they are seen online will affect how they act in real life. When Orenstein says that “the self, becomes a brand”, she means that young adults have to act in a way that is perceived to be socially acceptable by their peers, and the image of how everyone sees you. So many people today use social media, and the biggest one that is being used is Facebook. Profile pictures, albums, and statuses are things that gets posted up for anyone to comment, like, or dislike. Your “friends” on
I believe the younger generation lets selfies and other forms of social media affect them by creating dishonest performance from who they truly are. The ones who are not affected by this and seem to present their true identities in most cases is the older generation. Social media has become an everyday thing for teenagers. They are constantly on the lookout for what new trends are going on and what they can do to get in on this trend. For example, in my past experiences I have seen friends as well as other people from school that see something popular on social media such as clothes and buy them to just try and fit in on this trend. They would post selfies with their outfit of the popular clothes to fit in and get the recognition of others, but when all this seemed to not be so popular anymore and people would jump on something new they would not wear it anymore and try to sell it. This comes to show that teenagers focus so much on social media that they distance themselves from their true image to try and fit in with what’s
Changing yourself should only be for the better because if it is not it will take a toll on you, whether be future or something from your past. Although many shows that are off the air still replay on television, Hannah Montana does not. Disney feels as if it no longer appropriate to play a show about an actress that portrays herself the way she does today because the main audience for Disney Channel is younger age groups (Chambers). She also used to have a clothing line that was sold in participating Walmart’s. The clothing line is no longer sold because it is speculated that Walmart did not feel comfortable representing her brand due to her new reputation. Since Miley Cyrus is a pop star, eyes are constantly on her. With her 29.5 million followers on Instagram, and her 22.8 million followers on twitter, it is safe to say that her life is viewed every second of every day by millions of people
Born Destiny Hope Cyrus, Miley Cyrus is known for her role as the main character in the late Disney TV show, Hannah Montana. She starred with her father Billy Ray who played himself in the show. In 2011 Miley decided she wanted to get away from the innocent Hannah Montana, so they ended the TV series and she made some drastic changes that sent the media into a flurry. She started making more mature music videos, began wearing edgy outfits, and cut off and dyed her long brown hair in 2012. Once the media gave Miley a break she released her first number one hit in America, “Wrecking
Social networking sites leave opportunities for vulnerability, however, I don’t believe many youths are an easy target. Using ethos, pathos and logos individuals can create their own reality to relate to the internet world who they think are and how they wish to be seen. In mediated publics such as Facebook and Instagram, the user has complete control of his or her profile and is the only one who can allow content about his/herself to be shared. It is my personal belief that as technology has evolved many people have taken to fabricating some truths here and there and omitting details to give an ideal representation of who they are without incriminating themselves or leaving themselves vulnerable for mistreatment. The fantasy of what is or could be is more desirable than reality. In the past few years, privacy settings have been adapted to cover the growing technological advances to keep users safe from online predators.
Miley Cyrus has been a household name since the success of her hit show Hannah Montana. Long gone is the thirteen-year old girl who played America’s sweetheart on Disney Channel. Today the media portrays her as an out of control twenty-two year old superstar. The recent confrontation on the 2015 Video Music Awards with Nicki Minaj is a prime example of how Hannah Montana has turned herself into a thing of the past. The transformation from Hannah Montana to Miley Cyrus has caused her to change her appearance, morals, and music.
"Music is what I breathe, what I love to do. It keeps me alive, " Miley Cyrus once said. Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, knew even as a baby, Miley could sing (Miley Cyrus Quotes). She has an extraordinary story. One day Miley was just a normal girl and what seemed like the next day, a pop star. She was introduced to fame at a very young age and is now still growing up in front of the world. She was born Destiny Hope Cyrus because her parents believed she would achieve greatness (Miley Cyrus Biography). They had a lot of hope and promise for their young daughter. Miley is one of the most successful kids from Disney and now she is rising to fame all on her own. It is hard having everyone watch your every move and being constantly photographed, but she deals with it because she loves what she does. Miley Cyrus has led a very unique life both through her childhood and teen life.
Continuing, she did a photoshoot for the cover of Vanity Fair, which resulted in controversy because parents did not want their daughters to imitate Miley. This was a precursor to Miley 's now reconstructed star text because she understood that controversy brought in a lot of attention, and she embraced it whether it was good or bad. That 's why she no longer wanted to be the stereotypical-looking woman, so she cut her hair short, got tattoos all over her body, and started dressing provocatively and doing nude photoshoots. She started to change up her songs from strictly pop and country music to doing R&B, rap, and unclassifiable genres. This led her to working with many people from all over the entertainment industry, predominantly with African Americans. Since changing genres, she started singing and rapping about partying and smoking marijuana, which she would be spotted doing with some of the rappers she rapped with. She made twerking, sticking one 's tongue out to the side, and foam fingers cool, which is apart of her controversial and outlandish brand. Overall, Miley Cyrus reconstructed her star text in order to stay relevant in today 's ever-changing
Social media is an outlet to show yourself for the world to see. The majority use social media to connect with friends and to document our lives. However social media is not just an outlet for people to connect. Social media is becoming a booming industry in which thousands are making money off of. Just who though is making money off of this? Well Instagram is a place where anyone can post pictures, doing this anyone can be a model if they have the right camera. And if these people gain enough followers advertisments begin to pop up on their page. Evantually their able to suffice on their own and become finically stable based off a social media account. While many think this to be a new way of entraprenuership there is a downside. With the growth of social media and these “models” a rise in plastic surgery has grown. Surveys have shown that more than half of those who have got comestic surgery have been influenced by social media. Plastic surgery has gone from a private affair to something that is done and known by everyone. Many are even documenting their plastic surgery with hashtags such as “rhinoplastydiary.” Where did this new found love for plastic surgery come from?
Instagram was founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom. Kevin was born on December 30, 1983 in Holliston Massachusetts. As a child, he was introduced to a game called Doom 2, which spark an interest in computer programming. Systrom attended Stanford University and in 2006, received a bachelor’s degree in management science and engineering. After graduating, he joined Google as an associate product marketing manager. Kevin spent two years at Google before leaving to join Nextstop. During his time at Nextstop, he developed a prototype called Burbn and pitched it to Baseline Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz. They loved the idea, and as a result; he received $500,000 to build Burbn. During the development of the
...many little girls dream of being, she is now famous for much different choices. Miley has gone from teenage pop sensation to shocking her audiences by flaunting herself around the world. She states in US magazine, “I want to see people sing along and participate in my show.” She does not want to see phones in front of her fans faces. She wants to see people having a great time and enjoying her show (Nome, 49). Miley Cyrus has done many shocking and remembering things in her life but still has big plans for her future.

Of the 77.6 million users 51% of the users are male and 49% are female ("Ratcliff, Christopher.") 20 million of the 77.6 million users access Instagram from their desktop and 40 million use cell phones. Nearly 30 billion photos are uploaded a day and there are 3.5 billion likes daily. A lot of times there can be racism or even feminism on
Social media or cancer? Just like cancer, social media slowly withers away people’s brains, especially in teenagers, when they consume almost everything they read. Social media has grown exponentially while attracting the young minds of teens and molding them without teens knowing. They latch on to things that they feel comfortable with, because they are still trying to find who they really are. Today, social media is used by almost every teenager in America. Sites like Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, and Facebook can affect them in a negative way, making them feel worse about themselves or even changing who they really are. Social media can seem harmless to many teens, but it can actually hurt them and cause mental health issues.
Our society today has become dependent on social media to entertain, excite, and inform each other on the newest and latest hot topics of today’s world. Some people cannot go as long as an hour without checking their social media websites whether it is on the phone, computer, Ipad, or any other electronic devise with internet. The creators of social media have made it easier to recognize and draw the user in with notifying pop-ups every time something new happens in the cyber world. The easier it gets, the more addicting it makes it to check every second. Also, it’s not only the youth and teenagers using these social media cites; it also claims adults as well. One of the main reasons people make social media accounts is because people are nosey about other people’s lives. They get a social media page such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to monitor people and see what they are missing out of in the world. People post pictures to their “page” for everyone to see how good they look or how funny they are. Since everyone has a social media account, others feel obligated to make one, two, or even three accounts. What used to be rare is now typical for a normal person to have at l...
Technology has been and will continue to be an essential part of human life. Information technology is a revolution that has taken the whole world captive. Everyone around the globe is trying either to conform or catch up with the ever changing and improving technologies without having a second thought of its impact on their lives. The internet is the ground-breaking invention of the twenty first century, leading to the mushrooming of the social media and other communication platforms. The best invention that has captured my interest is the instagram. Its effect and how it has positively impacted on the lives of people, especially the youth cannot be underestimated. Instagram is improving the quality life. It has unlocked our creativity, enhanced connection and led to faster access to information. Comparing the past with the present, we can argue that information technology has done more good than harm and even as we progress into the future, we ought to adopt better technology because what we currently have may not be good enough.
