At first, Hannah was a pesty, teenage girl who didn’t care about her family or religion. After undergoing a harsh journey, Hannah soon began to change her attitude. She now understands her family and her heritage better. As Hannah’s mind shifts, the theme is developed. Hannah understands how the events in a person’s life can impact the person they are today. In addition, she learned that it is important to remember our history. Those who do not remember the past are destined to repeat
In the first place, she was developed to be secretive because of her loneliness, but befriending Jacob, Norman, and Paul makes her more social, which showed that life is better with sociability. This portion of the novel helped state that, "She looked surprised as though she couldn't believe she had talked so much " ( from page 131). Hannah is generally secretive and lonely, for she lost her family and was made as an example for her lost ears, but when she found out that Jacob was caring and friendly, she decided to trust him and answer his questions. Afterward, she was surprised and stopped, as if waking up from a dream but did not regret it totally. What we should discern from that, Finding a caring friend could change the reality. Moreover, their friendship then developed, and they got to be a family. In the second place, Hannah was unpredictable but did not point to it directly, yet exposed it for her friends, she did all she could. That was stated indirectly in the section on page 161, " She looked at the faces around her – Jacob, Oteka, Paul – and it was as though she began to draw strength from their courage emanating from them and enveloping her. " What Hannah only needed to reveal her real personality and impulsiveness was some courage from her friends, that she loved and cared for, which she read in their eyes. So, McKay delivered " friendship is strong " by making Hannah impulsive. If she was designed to be calm or shy, Norman would not have made it, or even Jacob, sacrificing it to save his friend. Hannah was described in that figure to enhance the idea of friendship's power in
“Yeah, it's a party in the USA” (“Party in the USA”). In the 80s Cyndi Lauper was the wild child. She had crazy hair, her outfits were unusual, and she had music that was revolutionary for her time. But now, Miley Cyrus has taken on Lauper’s role. Miley cut off her long hair; she is now wearing shorter, tighter outfits; and her dancing has been more provocative in the past year or so. These two seem pretty different, but are they? One might say that they are pretty alike. In examining the lives and causes of Cyndi Lauper and Miley Cyrus, one can see that American culture has changed drastically over time in terms of music, fashion, and manners.
I believe that Nicki Minaj has many more bright and successful years ahead of her as
After a week, she committed suicide. I couldn’t help but feel that she did it out of guilt. The way she looked apologetically at the photo and the books, it made her appear demoralized. Seeing the picture of the young boy reminds me of you. Just like Hannah who felt that she never redeemed herself or could never be forgiven even by the one person who she loves; I feel hopeless
Yes, the whole point of the tapes was for Hannah's classmates to realize how they impacted other people, but Hannah also impacted people when she started to send the tapes around. Hannah exposed extremely personal secrets to multiple people without their knowledge. The people who did something to make it onto the tapes were probably already aware that they treated Hannah poorly in some way. They were already upset about Hannah and they were likely rethinking every action that they could have done to influence Hannah's decision. Now their interactions with Hannah were floating around for fourteen people to hear. Every time they heard the tapes and sent them onto the next person they were left emotionally and physically drained. "I've got to admit, it took me a few days to pull myself together. But when I returned, Justin Foley looked like hell. Then Alex. And I thought, okay, most of these people deserved it" (236). Tyler's tape is the perfect example of this. What Tyler put Hannah through was not just something petty or shameful, but it was also illegal. Tyler had to hear all about what he did in detail and send the tapes on for everyone else to hear. He then had to trust that out of fear the tapes would make it through the list – saving his story from being heard by everyone in school and in town. While the readers never hear

She has an extraordinary story. One day Miley was just a normal girl and what seemed like the next day, a pop star. She was introduced to fame at a very young age and is now still growing up in front of the world. She was born Destiny Hope Cyrus because her parents believed she would achieve greatness (Miley Cyrus Biography). They had a lot of hope and promise for their young daughter. Miley is one of the most successful kids from Disney and now she is rising to fame all on her own. It is hard having everyone watch your every move and being constantly photographed, but she deals with it because she loves what she does. Miley Cyrus has led a very unique life both through her childhood and teen life.
As a child, she and her family loved music. For example, her uncle was a bona fide recording artist, while her dad was a church organist. In addition, when she was
Britney was very successful from 1998 to 2000. During these years, things were changing for her. Britney was telling people about her “remaining a virgin until marriage” yet she was posing in pictures that convinced people to think otherwise. Her albums still continued to sell in the United States as well as in Europe. She embarked on many successful roads through 2003 (Wikipedia, 2011). Her public finally saw her as a woman not a girl.
The most common word used to describe Miley these days is the word slut. People have no problem calling Miley a slut because she is a celebrity and we feel like it’s okay to insult them. This makes the word slut a common phrase in our everyday vocabulary. Which creates the culture of “slut-shaming” a term coined by Lijia Gong and Alina Hoffman. They define slut-shaming an “act of criticizing or insulting individuals for their perceived sexual availability, behavior, or history as a way to shame or degrade them.” (Gong, Hoffman 580). We now define a girl’s worth in society by how virtuous she is. From an early childhood women are taught to act proper ladies and dress more conservative. It is thought that if a woman bases a large part...
...many little girls dream of being, she is now famous for much different choices. Miley has gone from teenage pop sensation to shocking her audiences by flaunting herself around the world. Legs! Hair! Makeup! In the world of modeling, there are many competitors trying to take Ariel’s limelight. Even though, she did not plan on modeling; that is the path that found her. Growing up, Ariel, had a busy childhood; although, her school life was the complete opposite. She was a rebellious, hard-headed, stubborn, only liked by few, and a free-hearted person. Ariel, used to be my role model when I was little, being that we are only eight years apart. Ariel Little-Saunders, is my goofy, gorgeous cousin that I fully admire. I fully respect these traits from her generosity, working habits, and a well-fit mom.
The last path is to reinvent themselves. According to Smalley and McIntosh, reinventing is when the celebrity “doesn’t attempt to capitalize on their former fame by becoming their public self”, and also requires a “strong core self that remains relatively intact through their fame”(Smalley and McIntosh, 391). Conveniently Miley possesses both qualities. All Miley’s life she wanted to be a role model to her audience, whether it be a positive/negative role model for young preteens or young women. Also she exclaims no further interest in the identity given to her by Disney, but rather wanted to reveal his true self. While interviewed by the Daily Star Sunday Cyrus has discusses her true feelings about her public-given ego given by her role given by Disney stating “they try to make someone not grow up, but you can’t do that to real, normal people.”(Celebuzz). Miley wanted to no longer be seen as an immature teenager, but redefine herself as a mature women to be taken seriously after her prominent role in Hannah Montanna. Therefore, Miley Cyrus has completely pivoted from being a Disney star and did a 180 degree turn toward becoming an infamous “Wild Child”. “I went from people just thinking I was, like, a baby to people thinking I’m this, like, sex freak that really just pops molly and does lines all day. It’s like, ‘Has anyone ever heard of rock ’n’ roll?’ (Huffington Post). However, she doesn’t do these controversial things for her personal benefit, she does it for her publicity. Perhaps later in her career when she actually becomes mature, and loses her fame, she will attempt to regain it back by becoming a role model for adult females who have the ability to demonstrate female equality. With the ever increasing support of feminism currently happening in the United States she could become a women’s advocate once her singing career is over.
