When Jean Rousseau asks the rhetorical question “What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?” he elevates kindness to a preeminent status over other wisdoms. Kindness is committing an act that will benefit another person without expecting any returns. This is extremely beneficial under the assumption that as one is kind to others, others will be kind in return.
