1,517 people died from the sinking of the Titanic; that’s over half of the passengers and crew aboard the ship. People believed the Titanic was unsinkable, but the rough water conditions proved otherwise. The sinking of the Titanic was important because it was designed with safety, sank quickly, and impacted a lot of people.
First of all, is that the Titanic was designed with safety and specifically to carry lots of passengers across the Atlantic Ocean. For instance, the Titanic was supposed to be unsinkable, this is how it was designed with safety. It had a double bottom and 15 watertight compartments with electric doors. The walls separating the bulkheads only went over the waterline by a few feet you had to move the switch fast to close the doors so it wouldn’t sink. Also, it was also designed to hold a lot of people, the Titanic was carrying 2,240 passengers and crew. Most of the passengers were in third class, about 700 people were smooshed in the third class. One piece of evidence, I have is that the iceberg the Titanic first missed had a jagged underwater spur that made a huge 300 foot gash below the Titanic’s waterline. The compartments were filling up so fast with water that five compartments were already filled before the captain warned everyone. Another piece of evidence is, when everyone was trying to get into the lifeboats it was crowded and no procedure. Each lifeboat on the Titanic would’ve held 65 people, but many lifeboats didn’t leave with that many people on them. The first lifeboat left with only 28 people on it. It was very crowded and largely disorganized over by the lifeboats when everybody was trying to get on them.
