TEAMWORK Andrew Carnegie said, “Teamwork is the ability to work together towards a common vision. It is the fuel that allows common people to obtain uncommon result.” Working with this definition, teamwork is the ability to agree together. Working together is a decision of making oneself available for a common vision. The results of a team will transcend the outcome of an individual. Throughout the ages, God worked with teams to accomplish His work. When God gives you a vision and a purpose, He knows that you cannot do it alone. He knows that you need a team to help you break your responsibility into manageable portions and to share your load of leadership. With His glorious power, He will make available to you a team of gifted people so that you can be freed and so that you will be able to focus on directing the team and do things that you can do. People will benefit from Team Leadership. Team approach is a biblical model for every individual in a leadership position or to every individual who God gives a vision. People love to get involved in a vision as long as they are available in your group. Making oneself available in a group is a personal decision and a self-conviction and commitment. Getting them involved to serve is a mode of recognition. God takes great pleasure in people serving together and attaining goals. 4. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a team as: “a number of persons associated together in work or activity,” or “a group of people who work together.” In the current information age more companies are relying on teams to solve challenging tasks and to reach more difficult goals. Since a team of professionals with varying expertise can produce solutions that an individual working alone would likely struggle with, it is no wonder teamwork is becoming increasingly valuable to companies across all industries.
Imagine watching a vigorous baseball or hockey game, you watch your favorite team struggle to make a goal but your least favorite team keeps scoring. As you keep watching, you start to get aggravated and don’t know what is happening to make them not score. As you are watching you realize they are all over the place and not working together as a team. All of a sudden, your favorite team starts to work together and makes a huge comeback. One may ask why they are not scoring as well as the other team? This is just one element which can be greatly affected by teamwork. The complexity of teamwork is more than what Merriam-Webster defines teamwork as “the work done by people who work together to do something”. Teamwork involves good practices and strategies utilized in a cohesive manner to get to a common goal. Therefore a clear definition of a team must first be established in order to further understand the complexity of the teamwork process. A team is a collection of two or more people with either similar or different disciplines dedicated to the pursuit of a specific goal (Gilbert, 2004). Hence, the determinant in the level of participation from team members for a functioning team is a joint commitment (Gilbert, 2004).
A team is a group of individuals, all working together for a common purpose. The individuals comprising a team ideally should have common goals, common objectives and more or less think on the same lines. Individuals who are not compatible with each other can never form a team. They should have similar if not the same interests, thought processes, attitude, perception and likings.

Teamwork is becoming more important in the work place, because of the leaders and the fact that it allows full participation with all employees. In order to complete several different tasks, managers and supervisors usually perform teams and assign different tasks to complete one major assignment. Team work starts at the top (Smikle, 2009). When supervisors or managers are willing to administer teamwork, they are enabling the employees to follow. Managers or supervisors set good examples when they delegate tasks, but more importantly express to the employees how teamwork is productive. Employees work by example, more so now than by demands.
Why do we form teams? The goal of a team is to be able to do something together that could not be done alone. In this big, international, world of business and life we do, in fact, need teams. We need to work together to do all that we truly cannot do alone. Yet, knowing that we need teams is only the first step of many. Everyone has some experience being on a team, but few of us are experts who have done extensive research. A byproduct of this is that there are many common myths that abound about teams. These include misconceptions related to varied topics such as: what makes a team, how to run a team effectively, general attitudes about teamwork, its (teamwork’s) value to business and even its very nature.
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.
Like God the Father, the leader is called to provide a strong foundation enabling other persons to use their gifts in mutual service and collaboration. He or she has the task of establishing a framework in which all can freely and creatively share themselves with others in loving, dynamic interaction. We cooperate with God's loving will, even in part, it can be changed for the better. Instead of withholding what they possess leaders can share it, instead of excluding others they can include them, instead of pushing people down they can lift them upward, instead of creating barriers and distances they can create community. Followers also can and must work toward these goals.
