My Big Snow Day!
The first snow day of the year has always been an exciting time for my family and I. Of course it’s not like snow days are printed on the school calendar at the beginning of the year. It’s that surprise factor that makes an unexpected snow day so appealing. And also the fact that I get to decide what my day will look like from baking cookies, sleeping, chores, or shoveling snow all afternoon.
Baking cookies and eating them just happens to be high on my list of things to do on a snow day! Maybe it’s being able to turn on the oven and raise the temperature in our house or maybe it’s the great feeling that I get from making something yummy for others. I love to bake bread and create desserts. I especially enjoy searching the web
“Winter Evening” by Archibald Lampman, and “Stories of Snow” by P.K Page are two poems describing the human experience of winter. Winter is seen, by some, to be blissful, magical and serene. Winter could also be described as pure and heavenly, with the white snow resembling clouds. However, others have a contrasting viewpoint; they paint winter in harsher light, giving the impression that winter is bitter and ruthless. Others still, have a mixed viewpoint and may recognize both the positives and negatives to the season.

I was also really happy of building snowmen and building snow forts that I never even knew I can build. It was amazing for all of what could be crafted with snow. The fantastic trip has come to the start!
Snow is a concept that only a few people really know about. It seems like most people hate snow with a burning passion. However, the true northerners praise every day that it snows; mostly because it does not happen a lot. At one point everyone that participates in a snow sport has to hope that it will snow every winter. Unfortunately, our hopes and dreams do not always come true. That was why snowmaking was developed in the 1980s and has been upgraded every year so maximum snow production is possible. The first reason was to fill in the gaps that Mother Nature left out. However, now the amount of snow we receive is drastically less than what it used to be. Instead of making snow to fill in the gaps, we have to make most of the snow we ski
You really can't avoid the snow either. You go outside for a couple minutes then you leave a trail of snow wherever you walk. then you must shovel up all the snow that has just fallen outside. After one hour all the snow will have built up again. so it is a continues cycle of shoveling until you decide to just leave but if you leave it gets built up and stepped on until it becomes ice.if you try to get rid of the snow with ice it ruins your sidewalk. since you have to use so much of it.In chicago not only is it cold but we have records. in 1985 it was -25. we also have the average snowfall of 36.6
Snow is precipitation in the form of ice crystals, so it originates in clouds through the water cycle. Snow is not like rain though, for snow only accumulates when the temperature is less that zero degrees celsius or freezing (“Introduction to Snow”). The way this occurs is by having water vapor going through condensation condenses directly into ice without transferring to the liquid

Snow falling in large amounts in a very short amount of time, always beings complications. With areas reaching up to and surpassing seven feet of heavy snow brings the issue of where is all the snow going to go once all the roads are cleared? Not only was there the problem of where to put the snow, but there was a time crunch to clean all the snow up before the weather turned to 50 degrees and melted it, consequentially making an even bigger mess. The snow was piled so high and was so heavy from falling so quickly that it was not possible to just plow the snow with Buffalo’s average snow plows. They had to find an alternative solution.
