Learning from games did not just start they have been out since the beginning of time. In the 1950s hopscotch was made, it helped kids learn numbers even they did not realize they were learning. Also a game from 1980 you probably know. It is “Where In The World Is Carmen Santiago” it teaches you geographic with a fun game. One of the games from the 2000s is "Big Brain Academy" it tells you how big your brain is just by giving you fun challenge. The category of the challenges are endless there are Math, Geometry, shapes, and coolers.
Minecraft can become a history book and lessons their self. This game will help people to learn without even knowing it. Kids will have fun while learning they will start putting more effort into school as well because they will be having fun and not get bored easily. Wile you are playing you will enter a pyramid or a famous building.

When I was younger, my favorite game to play was Minecraft. The game was a fun way to express myself and to make decisions like “It’s getting dark, maybe I should start heading home so I can sleep in my bed and avoid the mobs” and that’s most likely why I loved the game so much. I had the opportunity to do whatever I wanted and if I made a mistake the only consequence was to press “respawn” pretty simple right? At the time, yes, but as I matured and became curious, I wondered, could an online game possibly be the definition of life? Can something so many look for yet don’t find be right in the palms of my hands? Could Minecraft, a game that is made for children be the answer to a question asked for centuries?
Why do i play minecraft? I play minecraft because i love making new friends and being able to try my best at being a staff member on servers. I also love to config plugins, play on servers, help out all the time.
One way to excite students about learning is by using games. Game play can require students use higher-order thinking skills, where they are analyzing, creating and understanding the concepts at deeper level. Making games from content, or Gamification can be done by creating teams, scores, competitions, and rewards. Real life simulations incorporated into a game environment can create a powerful learning environment.

One cannot go into the average elementary classroom today and not hear constant chatter about this game from children of all ages and gender. As the popularity of this game reaches record breaking heights, more and more parents and educators are questioning the effects that playing Minecraft can have on cognitive development. Although some critiques only see this as another video game that is rotting children’s brains, there are others that can see the possibility of Minecraft being an educational tool with unlimited potential. This basic survival based game promotes cognitive development in children as earlier as the pre-operational stage and up through the formal operational stage by allowing them to practice skills that expand abilities in perception, attention, memory, thinking, and reasoning.
With an emphasis on STEM education, I am able to implement many forms of technology and new literacies into everyday lessons. Defining New literacies as “the skills, strategies, and insights necessary to successfully exploit the rapidly changing information and communication technologies that continually emerge in our world” (Reutzle & Cooter, 2015, p.21),lends to many of the programs I offer being highly effective in exposing students to such literacies. Therefore that one of the applications of video games allows the user to learn skills that cannot be experienced via books. From James Paul Gee’s, he explains how people who often say they are playing when working hard at learning are those professionals…” Those professionals can use pieces of knowledge from video games and apply them to the real world. They can find that video games amusing and at the same time working hard towards their goal. Video games can help the students learn, analyze and making connections (Visscher). This has proof that video games have multiple application that includes educating students to make connections from the virtual world to the real world. Also, video games can help improve students’ learning skills and allow them to better formulate hypotheses. While games can educate students, but it can also help relief them from their stress.
There are several negative stereotypes associated with video games and those who play them; some of these may often hold true. However, there are plenty of learning opportunities in video games. While the direct purpose of some games is to educate or train, other games that do not directly have this purpose can still become a learning experience for the player. As Ntiedo Etuk, president of the educational video game company Tabula Digital said, “The traditional view of video games has been that they are distractions from the task of learning” (Electronic Education Report 1). Video games are an effective tool for learning and retaining skills both inside and outside the classroom environment. The basic cycle of game play--the introduction to the game, game play, collaboration, improvement of these between each round, and evaluation at the end of the game (Klievink and Janssen 159)--are nearly parallel to the traditional classroom learning cycle of reading a textbook or listening to a lecture, taking a quiz, studying, focusing on items missed on the quiz, and taking a test or exam. Within this cycle, there are many opportunities to develop and perfect both educational, life, and occupational skills.

Where is all this free time people seem to have to lie around? It's not enough anymore to spend free time playing video games, but now people can watch others play video games. This could barely classify as a video game too. Minecraft School is more of a unique YouTube television experience. Perhaps these viewers don't have that much free time, but they just happen to spend it all watching this. To each his own.
