"One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world."- Malala Yousafzai. Malala Yousafzai is known as a global campaigner for education and being the youngest receiver of the Nobel Peace Prize. Through her campaign, Malala has helped people realize the importance of education and encouraged girls to go to school.
Malala Yousafzai had a happy childhood and grew up seeing her father fight for everyone's education. She was born on July 12, 1997, in Mingora, Swat Valley, Pakistan. Malala is the oldest of Ziauddin and Tor Pekar's three children (Jalal, 574). She attended Khushal School, which her father ran. Taliban are a conservative group of Muslims enforced their interpretation of Islamic laws and practices. They issued many laws including, women are not allowed to go out, unless, in emergencies and they must cover the whole body. Forbid men shaving and they had to have a beard (Hopkins, 19-20). They made people forget history by closing museums and destroying monuments. Also, Taliban banned girls from performing cultural activities, such as, learning, dancing, watching and TV. Taliban controlled everything. They patrolled roads with guns, took over police stations and imposed curfews. And, they denied people from their basic rights and freedoms. They cut out gas and clean water and collected possessions, especially technology, like DVDs, TVs, and CDs. They started by convincing teachers to stop teaching and parents stop sending their daughters to school. Later, they banned girls from going to school and ordered schools to close or they bombed them. These made many girls scared and drop out of school. Malala continued going to school after her school was closed. She faked her age because younger people were allowed to go to school, to avoid getting caught, she stopped wearing her uniform, instead, she wore regular clothes, and hid her books and school bag under clothes (Yousafzai 136-138).
Malala has helped rebuild more than sixty-five Pakistan schools Taliban destroyed, and in 2015, Malala opened a school in Lebanon for Syrian Refugees (socialjusticesolutions.org). Also, she contributed to the petition "I am Malala" with the United Nations to demand every child has a school by 2015. In 2013, Malala wrote her autobiography, "I Am Malala" and established the Malala Fund with father her father, Ziauddin, The Fund's goal is seeing that girl can complete twelve years of education and believes that everyone can change the world if they have a chance
