CHAPTER 3
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter explains on the research methodology that being used for this study. In order to achieve the objective of the study, methodology acts as a guideline for conducting a research. Research methodology is a systematic way to solve the research problem ( Rajasekar et al., 2006). In this chapter, there are several part that have been prioritize which is premilinary stage, collecting data, analyzing data, summarize data and write up research’s finding.
3.2 RESEARCH DESIGN According to Creswell, (2013) in research methodology there are three approaches which are qualitative method, quantitative method and mixed method. In this study, the researcher only use quantitative method where it

By using quantitative the data can be ranked. It is used to quantify attitudes, opinions, behaviors, and other defined variables. Besides that, it can divided into discrete and continuous data. Discrete data can be counted while continuous data can be placed within two specified value. Quantitative data collection methods are much more structured than Qualitative data collection methods. Quantitative data collection methods include various forms of surveys such as online surveys, paper surveys, face-to-face interviews, telephone interviews, ,online polls, and systematic …show more content…
It refers to the transformation of raw data into a form that will ease in understanding and interpretation. Descriptive analysis will been test in section A which is demography analysis. It will analyze the background of respondents such as position in company and years of experience in construction industry. In this research some of the question will be analyze using percentage and presented into chart.
3.8.2 Mean Analysis Mean analysis is an average number of data collection. The analysis is being conducted to identify the the perceptions of professionals in construction industry in adopting Green Building Index. The ratings on the scale will indicate the level of significance of perception. The perceptions of professionals in construction company at Kuantan, Pahang will be ranked based on the value of the mean. In order to get the mean value analysis, the sum of data will divide by the total numbers of value. x̄ = (Σ xi ) / n Where, Σ represents the total number of data X represents data score N represents number of
12). These are the most common methods that are being used. The difference between qualitative and quantitative methods concerns how the data are collected, where basically qualitative data focus on words while quantitative focus on numbers (Denscombe, 1998, p. 173-174).
There are two types of research that can be conducted in research studies, these are qualitative and quantitative (Newman, 2011). Qualitative research is a process that uses detailed oriented methodology that tries to achieve a profound knowledge or understanding of specific incident and circumstance, wh...
In the previous chapters I discussed the problem of the lack of healthy eating promotion programs in schools are leaving parents and students uneducated about how to purchase healthy items which is leading to childhood obesity. I also discussed how the problem is being addressed, as well as the theory of social constructionism. In this chapter, I will discuss the specific methodology I plan to use and the three different types of data collection I plan to employ to carry out my study. This study will use a qualitative approach to study and address the issue of the lack of healthy eating promotion in schools. The three types of data collection I plan to use are: direct observation, focus groups and a questionnaire. These methods will be clarified later in this chapter.
Quantitative data are reference to numeric variables. Descriptive statistics are calculated by using quantitative data. The statistical mode of analysis is essential for quantitative as Byrne (2002) explains that society is complex thus it makes it easier for the surveyor to classify the data collection in order to reach for the right and clear results which was vital for the survey in the first place. According to Byrne (2002) surveys are artificial constructs. The constructs are made to locate issues or situations.
On the other hand, Quantitative research refers to “variance theory” where quantity describes the research in terms of statistical relationships between different variables (Maxwell, 2013). Quantitative research answers the questions “how much” or “how many?” Quantitative research is an objective, deductive process and is used to quantify attitudes, opinions, behaviors, and other defined variables with generalized results from a larger sample population. Much more structured than qualitative research, quantitative data collection methods include various forms of surveys, personal interviews and telephone interviews, polls, and systematic observations. Methods can be considered “cookie cutter” with a predetermined starting point and a fixed sequence of
This essay is going to critically discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using surveys and questionnaires as a method of Socio-Legal research. When conducting socio-legal research, a number of methods can be used to collect useful information.
Data Collection and Analysis Questionnaire The research was carried out on both quantitative and qualitative approaches. It began with a quantitative approach—questionnaire. Bryman and Bell (2003) asserted that mail or postal questionnaires are the most popular forms of questionnaires. Another form—self-completion questionnaire—was also common because of the overlap with postal questionnaire to some extent.
Quantitative research uses a deductive reasoning also known as top to bottom or (top down approach) starting with a theory, then the hypothesis, followed by observation and finally confirmation , going from the general to the more specific. Quantitative methods use numbers and statistics to show the results of the research exercise and mainly are concerned with mathematics and statistics. In quantitative research there are levels of measurement being firstly nominal which are names of things followed by ordinal sequence of things, interval where the sequence has equal distance between each item, and ratio where there is a true zero (Alston & Bowles, 2003, p. 7-9).
The research was designed using qualitative model based on exploratory design. This was done to facilitate multi-faceted study with a broader prospective. Basic percentage analysis was done to supplement qualitative analysis. The study was conducted with the help of a Questionnaire. To deepen the understanding data was collected from a variety of books, Internet web pages, and articles of different kinds conducted was descriptive in nature. Descriptive research includes survey and facilitating enquiries of different
Quantitative studies are primarily numbers based. They deal with large cohort groups as well as analyze large amounts of data. “A quantitative researcher typically tries to measure variables in some way, perhaps by using commonly accepted measures of the physical world (e.g., rulers, thermometers, oscilloscopes) or carefully designed measures of psychological characteristics or behaviors (e.g., tests, questionnaires, rating scales)” (Leedy & Ormrod, 2010, p. 94).
Traditional research may use quantitative or qualitative research method. According to Hendricks (2009), quantitative research is a general conclusion based on hard data. Hen-dricks describe quantitativ...
Qualitative and quantitative researcher’s exhibited conflicting ways of approaching a research. Some researchers prefer qualitative over quantitative and vice-versa. Also, it is common for qualitative and quantitative to be used together in a research. But, both methods when carried out correctly provide good research. Plus, both methods have their own unique differences and characteristics. In this paper I will define three of these characteristics in a quantitative and qualitative research design and discuss and compare their differences. (Smith & Davis, 2010)
Another option available to a researcher is mixed methods which focuses on collecting, analyzing, and mixing both qualitative and quantitative data in a single study; also, it is based on the premise that the use of quantitative and qualitative combination provides a better understanding of the research problem than either approach alo...
By choosing the research methodology, the researchers can formulate the path to be used in conducting the study and reporting the findings. The methodology helps in the search of literature, development of research questions and the creation of the most suitable study design. It also assists in the interpretation of the results and the publication of the findings in journals. References. Jha, N. (2008). Research methodology . Chandigarh: Abhishek Publications. To achieve the research objectives the process of research must be carried out by certain principles and to use appropriate methods. It is very important that the methods used to obtain the desired results, and this starts to clearly define the objectives and what we need to know, and also by choosing the methods and tools to help us and to ease the process.
