Relational and Object-oriented Database Management Systems
A database is a “shared collection of logically related data designed to meet the information needs of multiple users in an organization” (Hoffer 709). Databases contain data records or files, such as sales transactions, product catalogs and inventories, and customer profiles. Databases allows multiple users in an organization to easily access, manage, store, and update data when needed.
A database management system is software designed to assist in maintaining and utilization large collections of data, and the need for such systems and their use. The first general-purpose database management system (DBMS) was designed by Charles Bachman who worked for General Electric in 1960. The original system was actually called the Integrated Data Store and was used to form the basis for the network data model.
Later, IBM developed its’ own version of DBMS and called it the Information Management System (IMS) DBMS. IMS eventually formed the structure for an alternative data representation framework called the hierarchical data model. This new system allowed several people to access the same data through a computer network.
Although there may be innumerable advantages of using a DBMS to manage data, there are six worth mentioning. First, data is independent. Second, there is efficient data access. A DBMS uses a variety of techniques to store and retrieve data. This allows for data to be sorted in additional places such as external storage devices. Third, the DBMS can enforce data integrity and security by enforcing access controls that govern what data is visible to different users.

It is often hard to comprehend the amount of tireless effort it took to create such a superior country as America is. America’s ancestors worked tirelessly to give today’s people freedom. Much gratitude is owed to Christopher Columbus and George Washington for their success and impact on The United States of America. Though their success did not happen overnight, many Americans may think so. Both pioneers of advancements faced and overcame challenges and adversities. Both men were faced with the challenge of being leaders. Christopher Columbus was faced with the adversity of having a different culture while George Washington was faced with a war. These hardships forced both men to work very hard and ended up becoming two of the most respected men of America.
Achilles may have been the hero of The Iliad, but it is clear he was prone to the weakness of anger from his honor being challenged. His pride causes him to make bad choices, but equally this same pride is necessary in the heroic code, one has to prove himself a hero. Despite this, in the end he is quite changed. The death of Patroclus and his isolation has caused him to see the heroic code he has been living by in different light. He even gives the Trojans time to have a proper funeral for Hector. Achilles in the end is a different Achilles from the beginning of the tale, he has slowly returned to a civilized state and a more developed character.
Through the many obstacles, America has experienced; George Washington helped this free country become united and created by the people for the people. We know and call him by the title of the Founding Father of the United States. In three important ways, Washington helped shape the beginning of our evolving civilization. For instance, he commanded the Continental Army that won American Independence from Great Britain, known as the Revolutionary War. He was also nominated the president the U.S. Constitutional Convention, which later wrote the U.S. Constitution. In addition to these achievements, which created a strong foundation for America, he became the country’s first presidential leader.
In 1977, Larry Ellison, Bob Miner, and Ed Oates founded System Development Laboratories. After being inspired by a research paper written in 1970 by an IBM researcher titled “A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks” they decided to build a new type of database called a relational database system. The original project on the relational database system was for the government (Central Intelligence Agency) and was dubbed ‘Oracle.’ They thought this would be appropriate because the meaning of Oracle is source of wisdom.
A database is a collection of data which is organized and easy for users to find data. Database can record massive amount of data, it can be use for business and organization’s purpose. Every organization should have database security to secure the information of the organization.
(Shelly, Cashman, Waggoner 1992). However, the arrival on the scene of the relational database along with the rapidly changing technology has modified the database administrator's role. This has required organizations to vary the way of handling database management. (Mullins 1995) Traditional database design and data access were complicated. The database administrator's job was to oversee any and all database-oriented tasks.
Databases are becoming as common in the workplace as the stapler. Businesses use databases to keep track of payroll, vacations, inventory, and a multitude of other taske of which are to vast to mention here. Basically businesses use databases anytime a large amount of data must be stored in such a manor that it can easily be searched, categorized and recalled in different means that can be easily read and understood by the end user. Databases are used extensively where I work. In fact, since Hyperion Solutions is a database and financial intelligence software developing company we produce one. To keep the material within scope I shall narrow the use of databases down to what we use just in the Orlando office of Hyperion Solutions alone.

Such database management systems include dBase, Paradox, IMS, and Oracle. These systems allow users to create, update, and extract information from their databases. Compared to a manual filing system, the biggest advantages to a computerized database system are speed, accuracy, and accessibility.
There are some common typed of information systems. Database management system is one of the common types of information system. It is a mixture of software and data that makes it possible to sort out and examine data. Database management system is just not for working with a particular organization
Database Management Systems or in short form called DBMS is the major component in most of the information systems. DBMS is the basic system been used in the information system. Or in the other name, DBMS is the traditional way. The Information Retrieval System or IRS is the extended function from the DBMS thus we can explain it here that IRS is came from the DBMS. There will be some differences between Database Management System and Information Retrieval System in the functionalities and uses.

Since there are so many database management systems are available, so it is important to ensure that they communicate with each other. This is because, most database software comes with an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver which allows the database to incorporate with other databases.

Meanwhile, information retrieval system is a system that involved the activity that the systems obtain the information. The obtaining information action need the information from it resources.
A database management system in the main software tool of the database management approach because it controls the creation, maintenance, and use of the database of an organization and its users. The three major functions of a database management system are first to create new database and database application. Second to maintain the quality of the data in an organized database. And last to use the database of an organization to provide the information that its end users need. An example of a database management approach in a banking information system. Note how the savings, checking and installment loan programs use a database management system to share a customer database. Note also that the database management system allows a user to make direct, ad hoc interrogations of the database without using application programs.
In our world, people rely heavily on the power of technology every day. Kids are learning how to operate an iPad before they can even say their first word. School assignments have become virtual, making it possible to do anywhere in the world. We can receive information from across the world in less than a second with the touch of a button. Technology is a big part of our lives, and without it life just becomes a lot harder. Just like our phones have such an importance to us in our daily lives, database management systems are the same for businesses. Without this important software, it would be almost impossible for companies to complete simple daily tasks with such ease.
