A.-In California the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) “is a state governmental agency stablished by law to protect the public by regulating the practice of registered nurses” () The BRN is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the Practice Act. The Practice Act is the body of California Law that mandates the Board to stablish the scope of practice and responsibilities for RNs.
Some of the roles of the Board of registered Nursing are to approve California nursing programs. When a nursing school is acreedited it indicates that the school has met the requirements to operate and graduate students that will be allowed to work as professional nurses. Also, the BRN set RN Educational standards. This helps prepared nurses adequately to provide a competent and safe nursing care. Another role is to evaluate licensure applications. The BRN evaluate each application to determine if the applicant meets the licensure requirements such as: having completed all the educational requirement, have passed national licensing examination and have a clear background check for conviction of any crime.
