In this reflective account I am going to analyse how learning processes take place in healthcare settings. There are some theories that explain how learning occurs that can be related to to the acquisition of new knowledge in healthcare. There are also some factors that influence learning. Motivation, teachers behaviours and anxiety are the ones that will be analysis below. In addition, individual 's learning style impacts in the way they learn. This is going to be used to reflect about my learning style and the factors that influence my learning. Bloom 's Taxanomy distinguishes between three domains of learning that can be applied to health and social care. Cognitive domain is based in individual 's capabilities to process and use information, …show more content…
He follows the behaviourist approach which establishes that individuals learn through stimulus and response. However he adds two elements: behaviour is learned through observation and there is a mediation process between observe a behaviour and reproduce it or not. This mediation process is what makes individuals think about the convenience of imitating or not a behaviour. There are four mediation processes: Attention (behaviour is imitated because it catches individual 's attention; retention (only behaviour that can be remembered can be imitated); reproduction (depending on the ability to imitate the behaviour); and motivation (considering the rewards or punishments as a consequence of imitate a behaviour). For example to learn how to take blood samples is necessary to observe someone else do it. Then, individuals must pay attention to the practice, be able to remember it and reproduce it (e.g. if someone has not a steady hand is not going to be able to reproduce it) and have enough motivation to imitate it (e.g. for the emotional and economic rewards of developing the profession effectively).
Motivation is one of the factors that influence effectiveness of learning. According to the Reinforcement Theory (Daft, 2008) individuals’ motivation depends on the immediate rewards received, as a salary raise. The Hierarchy of Needs of Maslow (McGhire, 2011) considers that motivation comes trying to

This means that I learn more when I previously do some research, analysing it and having time to think about it. However, having always learned and worked better under pressure, the test shows that reflector people learn more when not under pressure or stress. It has always been easier for me to memorise information before exams when I was short of time, the pressure helped me focus. That is one the behaviours I need to change in my learning style, as even though it has been effective (all my subjects have been passed) it generates me much stress and
The intention of this written essay is to demonstrate an understanding of my views on reflection and the issues surrounding reflective practice. It is based on nursing skills that I used during my practice placement, most importantly reflecting on the professional value of privacy and dignity.
“Motivation is the process whereby goal-orientated activity is instigated and sustained” (Schunk, Pintrich & Meece, 2008. As cited in Eggen & Kauchak, 2010, p.284). Motivation comes in many forms and can be divided into two broad categories - extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivators are external factors which can motivate a student; rewards are an example of this. An issue with extrinsic motivators is that the desire for the learner to participate often lessens, once the rewards are withdrawn (McCullers, 1987). On the other hand intrinsic motivation comes from within - learning for the joy of it - where the desire to learn leads to a higher level of knowledge, and is a reward in itself. Kohn (1996, p.285) states that research suggests, “Rewards actually decrease interest in intrinsically motivating tasks, therefore sending the wrong message about learning” (as cited in Eggen & Kauchak, 2010a)
In this essay I will be discussing the importance of understanding learning styles for student nurses. I will also be focusing on the learning cycle and learning style using the Honey and Mumford 80 questionnaire. I look into the details of how learning style helps students to understand the importance of recognising one’s learning style preference. I will also provide an understanding of learning and learning theories and discuss my own dominant learning style and how I aim to deal with my weaknesses to progress well in the nursing programme.
Maslow, A. H. (1943). A theory of human motivation. Psychological Review, July 1943. 370-396. Print. 8 Feb. 2014.
Motivation is the force that makes us do things, whether accomplishing personal goals or completing tasks at work. Most people are motivated as a result of their individual needs being satisfied, which gives them the inspiration to perform specific behaviors for which they receive rewards (Kinicki & Williams, 2011). These needs vary from person to person, as everybody has specific needs to be satisfied. When we consider factors that determine the motivation of employees, many of us think of a high salary. This answer is correct for the reason that some employees will be motivated by money, but mostly wrong for the reason that it does not satisfy other needs to a lasting degree (Bizhelp24, 2010). This supports the idea that human motivation is a personal characteristic and not a one-size-fits-all option. Managers will achieve a better rate of motivation in their employees by identifying the key factors that determine the rate of motivation. These factors are linked directly to the employees’ individual needs, behavior, and attitudes.

The layman’s view of motivation is defined has the action whereby one is given a reason or purpose to complete an objective with more zeal. This in itself is not something new, but rather a method that has been applied for an immeasurable number years, possibly before it was even defined, classified
When I first registered for 268-Christian Social Teaching, I did not know what to expect. My assumption was the class would be an educational religion course requiring a lot of community service hours, which I would be struggling to complete. To my amazement, this course opened my eyes and mind to the realities of our world, not only inside the classroom, but also outside the classroom. Prior to participating in this course, I knew a number of people in my community were struggling financially, but I didn’t grasp the full extent of what they went through. However, through this course, I was able to interact with people who weren’t able to do, what I would consider, normal day-to-day activities, such as providing a meal for their family.
I realised from all of these experiences, I worked in education because I liked learning new things and using that knowledge gained to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Now in my new roles as a well-being coach, motivational speaker, author and television presenter, I am applying the new skills that I am learning in new settings. What is core, to all of my work and roles, I am making a positive difference in the lives of others. Let me share an experience of how a coaching session which included the use of a motivation map changed the life of one of my clients. I will call the client Sarah.
For someone, who hasn’t taken this class yet, wanting to know what learning is I would say learning is not only knowing something well enough that you can take a test on said subject and do well. Learning is about knowing something to the extent that you can apply it to real life and not just school. As said in Chapter 1.2 of the book, learning is connecting to what you’re experiencing and then making sense of it all. The way I viewed learning at the beginning of class is very different to what I know learning is now. I thought learning was just about studying hard and knowing something well enough that you can pass a test. For me, learning is knowing something and being able to carry that knowledge into life after college.
Everyone has a different view on how they learn and learning itself. First starting in EXP 105, my understanding of learning was new knowledge and becoming wiser. Taking EXP 105 has truly increased my knowledge of what learning is and the process of it. The most important thing I have learned about learning is that you observe the world around you, make sure it is understandable, and figure out the right way to respond. Learning also provides critical thinking skills. Everyone have different ways of learning and those ways are based on four different learning patterns. The four different types of learning patterns are Sequence, Precision, Technical Reasoning, and Confluence. Learning patterns are very helpful when it comes to everyday life, school work, and your job. Knowing your learning patterns and which ones you should use make
Reflective learning is a necessary life skill that one can use to improve their personal and professional life. If one does not take the initiative to assess their past performance, they cannot make essential improvements for future situations. When one partakes in reflective learning they are able to see matters in a different light. Reflective learning should be a frequent practice that all individuals should partake in for optimal learning and performance through writing, analytical reading, and vocabulary and terminology acquisition. When reflecting on my writing assignments throughout the school year I have noticed that word choice and punctuation are areas that need improvement.
Motivation is really important tool in a learning environment. Also motivation effects student learning and their behavior as well. It directs behavior towards particular targets. Also it effect the decision which students takes. In motivation mainly we have two types which is intrinsically and extrinsically being motivated. For example: when a student is intrinsically motivated they just do it for themselves not because of the reward that they will get back. It’s just because they have their own interest and they enjoy doing that. On the other side, when a student is extrinsically motivated they just do it for the reward that they will get. That’s why in learning process it’s important that each student should

The dictionaries ' definition of learning and education is that learning is through experience, study, or by being taught, but education is through the systematic receiving of instruction. Over time, I have come to see that education sometimes is the same as learning. This, however, is a view I have always taken. I haven 't always viewed them as the same thing. For many years, I would stubbornly fight education, even though I love and have always loved learning, when told to do something I would become stubborn and make assignments ten times harder than it should have been. This struggle in my life greatly influenced not only how I view education and learning but also my assumptions and expectations with them.
