The dictionaries ' definition of learning and education is that learning is through experience, study, or by being taught, but education is through the systematic receiving of instruction. Over time, I have come to see that education sometimes is the same as learning. This, however, is a view I have always taken. I haven 't always viewed them as the same thing. For many years, I would stubbornly fight education, even though I love and have always loved learning, when told to do something I would become stubborn and make assignments ten times harder than it should have been. This struggle in my life greatly influenced not only how I view education and learning but also my assumptions and expectations with them.

I would do my required schoolwork, memorizing only the required elements so I could do well on the exams. Once done with my school for the day, and often when I was not done, I would research my interests to my heart 's content. The reading required of me always took me far longer than any I did for pleasure because I wasn 't looking to make it interesting. This might have gone on for a long time and I would have continued separating my education and not making it my own if I hadn 't had teachers who required me to start owning my education. They required me to choose my own topics, within their guidance, for research or writing. This was something I had never done, but it caused me to suddenly go from separating my education to embracing it wholeheartedly. This change came more out of necessity than out of real enjoyment, at first, because the only things I understood enough to talk about, were topics I had researched or read about outside school. The intention of this written essay is to demonstrate an understanding of my views on reflection and the issues surrounding reflective practice. It is based on nursing skills that I used during my practice placement, most importantly reflecting on the professional value of privacy and dignity.
Education is in itself a concept, which has changed over the millennia, can mean different things and has had differing purposes according to time and culture. During this semester in the course human development and learning, the class has been learning about a range of ways that children develop and learn. The lived experience of managing for results in social services among key professionals emerged from summarizing and reflecting on the naïve reading, the sub-themes, and themes, all meaning that managing for results in social services mimic the experience of putting a jigsaw puzzle together where each piece has its own special place, but the puzzle can´t be fulfilled since those who put together the puzzle not pre-agreed on which the puzzle is to be pieced together those puzzles do not agree on which the puzzle is to be pieced together. Looking back over the course of the semester, I feel that I learned many new and interesting uses for technology within the classroom – both for classrooms that have a lot of technology and for classrooms that are limited with technology. For the majority of the class, we utilized William Kists’ book The Socially Networked Classroom: Teaching in the New Media Age (2010), which provided multiple modes of instruction that both utilized and/or created technology. One of the first things that I remember, and consequently that stuck with me through the course’s entirety, is that individuals must treat everything as a text. Even a garden is a text. The statement made me change the way that I traditionally viewed Language Arts both as a student and as a teacher, as I very narrowly saw literature and works of the like as texts only; however, by considering nearly anything as a text, one can analyze, study, and even expand his/her knowledge. Kist (2010) states that society is “experiencing a vast transformation of the way we “read” and “write,” and a broadening of the way we conceptualize “literacy” (p. 2). In order to begin to experience and learn with the modern classroom and technologically advanced students, individuals must begin to see new things as literature and analyze those things in a similar manner.
What is education? According to Webster’s Dictionary education is defined as, (noun) 1: the action or process of being educating or of being educated, 2: the field of study that deals mainly with methods of teaching and learning in schools. What does education provide for us? How important is education in today’s society?
Education. A word that many people here in the United States take for granted. A word that should be cherished with high regards. Education is the foundation of this country and allows for our society to continually progress. Being an educator is a job that can truly impact every community in America, but it’s a job which requires great training and must be taken seriously.
There is a bit of a paradox here, because education is stressed so heavily, the main view is that “educated” is strictly pertaining to that of those in school or who went through school. However, our society does, on occasion, recognize educated as simply gaining knowledge or becoming learned in a particular area or subject matter.
There is no one single definition for what education really is. Experts and scholars from the beginning have viewed and commented about education in different ways. The definition mostly agreed upon was that education is an acquisition or passing of skills, behavior or knowledge from an institution to another. This institution can either be a person, a school, a family or even the society. If we go in the ancient meaning and the ideology of education, it means to lead out of ignorance. In other words, education or knowledge in this sense was light and education brought the person out of the dark. Education is the most important activity that every human should be an active partaker. Education is an activity that is designed to bring about changes in the knowledge, skills, attitudes and perceptions of individuals, groups or communities.
For my assignment I have decided to choose a group which I have just finished taking for level 1 Hairdressing and they have progressed on to level 2 Hairdressing. This is within my current role as a hairdressing lecturer at Hugh Baird College which I have done since October. Within this group there are a couple of people who have support workers. There is one student within the group who has severe learning difficulties and is a more mature student. She also has many health problems which results in her having to carry an oxygen tank around for when she has any problems with her breathing due to her having problems with her heart. There is also another student in the class who has learning difficulties, she is very clever but just needs someone there for when she needs something explaining. She also has a support worker that comes in to give her support. This student has also been going through personal problems at home and has attendance issues. There is another student within this group who has severe dyslexia. She doesn’t have a support worker but the support people who are in there do give her help as she can have a tendency to give up, not to listen and just needs to be kept on track so by sitting next to a person that does have a support worker she gets the help from them. These three students have all had their level 1 qualification extended for a year were the rest of the group have progressed on to level 2 Hairdressing. Two of these students may progress on to level 2 but one doesn’t have the ability to be able to do this as the requirements are too high for her. To me, learning is like a bee pollinating. I am the bee, and learning is the pollen which gets picked up from a flower and then gets dropped off to another flower. I used to think that everyone would learn in a different way than how I learned. I have always had trouble learning; lessons and anything that anybody told me, would somehow not stay inside my brain. I believe that one of the very first ways that we begin to learn is in a section that Temple Grandin discusses in her article. Doing community service was an experience that has shaped my outlook on life. Anything that I do has taken time a lot of effort, but it has paid off with the knowledge that I gained.
Everyone has a different view on how they learn and learning itself. First starting in EXP 105, my understanding of learning was new knowledge and becoming wiser. Taking EXP 105 has truly increased my knowledge of what learning is and the process of it. When I began this exploration, these two words: pedagogy and andragogy, my first thought was here I go again with learning about pedagogy. What in the world is andragogy? To much my surprise, I learned the history behind pedagogy; instead of, the theories that are supposed to work in the classroom. There was a significant amount of knowledge given in this course, involving concepts that in our teaching career will be extremely important. From this course I have gained a significant amount of learning experiences. I had the pleasure learning about how the educational system has come to be what it is today and who were the important people in the creation of the public education, like Horace Mann.
