Before I started Introduction to Theatre class, I had been only to a couple of plays in my life. Just in this semester I’ve been to about ten plays and have learned so much about the art of theatre. The information I retained from class will help out a lot in the future, but the most important part of this class was the shadowing experience of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. With being able to get an inside look at this play during rehearsal and then going to see the performance was an incredible experience. By going to the rehearsal and then seeing the show, I was able to learn and understand more on how the theatre works. From there, I could understand the long process the actors and directors have to go through before the opening show happens. The first step of the process was to go shadow the play during rehearsal hours. This experience was awesome and very educational. Being an insider in the theatre I think gives you a better understanding and approach on what the play is about. I am a firm believer that if I had gone to rehearsals of all the plays I have been too, the performance for each one would be better. Being an insider in the play makes you look at the show at different perspectives. If you go to the rehearsal, you are able to see a clearer and more in depth look on what the show is trying to do. Then when the live performance plays, it is more in depth and executed to perfection. Also with being an insider, you are able to look at different parts of the show that you found interesting in the rehearsal, and then can see if the director made any changes to it in the live performance. Pause for a second and think about a play or musical that you have seen. Consider the plot, whether you liked it or not and if the experience was positive or negative. Think about the characters, the costumes, and the emotions that were emitted. The discourse community of theatre is unique in the way that it is so complex and there are many different parts that ultimately come together to create a dynamic whole. Learning from last year in The Book Thief and midterm for this class, I realized going into this show that in order to succeed I needed to be continually on top of my due dates and assignments. With this in mind I was able to create a timeline for myself that lead me to have my lines memorized early on, and most of my portfolio requirements completed before week of show. In regards to my growth onstage, in this show I was able to gain much confidence in my acting abilities, something much needed to play a character like Abigail. Abigail as a character has this trust in herself that things will work out in her favor like no other. The trust Abigail has in herself allowed me to trust myself more, especially in scenes with only myself and another person, where it is most important to know what I am doing.
Theatrical flats are one of the most significant theatrical element that is used in the modern era of theatre. Flats, as they are more popularly called, are fake walls. Flats can range from a small cubicle to a lecture hall. They are not necessarily constructed to erect walls, but they are also used to create floors, windows, and many types of platforms. The flats in use nowadays are not similar to the ones used five hundred years back.

7.3 Some Thoughts on the Roles and Potentials of a Theatre Translator As previously argued, the multiplicity of theatrical communication may provide a theatre translator with even more strategic solutions to translation problems than his or her literary counterparts. However, whether he or she can tap into those resources depends on the power structures of the theatre the translator was serving, as much as the individual’s own capability and status. Due to the norms of power distribution within a theatre group, a translator often need to have at least some level of recognisable theatrical expertise to remain a powerful voice in the page-to-stage transposition. This indicates that when a translator is capable of rising up to that position, he or she usually also possesses the knowledge and the skills facilitative to the work of the enactors.
I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of how theater is more than a mere performance, but rather an artform with nuance and depth. My knowledge on theatrical styles has expanded and some of my favorites we have studied in class are Brechtian and Chinese theatre styles. I grew up participating in musical theatre, but never had the opportunity to truly learn the history and details of the craft. After studying RENT, I am inspired by the various possibilities for theater beyond acting, singing, and dancing. Theater can be used for activism or as a form of commemoration. Theater is relevant by communicating issues to the world. Theater is so much more than a dramatic presentation. In this paper, I will be focusing briefly on my knowledge and understanding of the concept of Applied theatre and one of its theatre form, which is Theatre in Education. The term Applied Theatre is a broad range of dramatic activity carried out by a crowd of diverse bodies and groups.

The evolution of theatre is a long and complex story. What once began as a ritual to the ancient gods has since developed into an elaborate examination of mankind. Theatre originated in Ancient Greece as a celebration to the god Dionysius, where amateur actors would dance and sing in order to imitate him. Consequently, as the Greek Empire developed, so did theatre. By the end of the Greek Empire, scripts were being written, theatres were being built, and professional actors were being used. The tradition of theatre continued to flourish with the rise of the Roman Empire. This age saw great playwrights such as Seneca, Terence, and Plautus become great cultural icons, performing their plays in extravagant arenas known as coliseums. Nevertheless, the Roman Empire fell giving way to the Medieval Period, where governments were weak allowing feudalism to become prevalent. This absence of power led to a period of time where theatre was also absent. As time progressed theatre rose again and became popular throughout the world. Each territory had its own way of showing these plays, which either dealt with mystery of morality. Eventually the Medieval Period gave way to the Renaissance, whereupon nations developed into their own powers, inciting different styles of theatre. This movement was called The Workers' Theatre and it was partially shaped by the agitprop theatre of communist Russia. Agitprop theatre contained brief bits and were performed on transportable entities of theater. Agitprop Theater performers frequently performed songs which strained to enrage listeners to resist entrepreneurship and acknowledge the ways of communism. They wanted their audience to consent to the notion that the working-class would arise. Theatre as we know it now was born more than two thousand years ago and has gone through many streams until it reached the current modernity. Among these streams is the avant-garde theatre. This theatre achieved a break in the traditional theatre and became the forefront of a new experimental theatre. Therefore it is necessary to ask how this theatre started, what impact it had on society and if this type of theatre is still common in our modern era.
The ambient lights fill my peripheral vision. A headache from the depths of hell appeared at the most unfortunate times. Now, out of all the more convenient times that it could've showed itself, it had to be now. I grudgingly proceed walking to the stage. It's almost my time to shine and put all the people in awe.
I haven’t dreamt in color lately. Normally my subconscious performs elaborate shows for me, with brightly painted sets and multi-hued costumes. Since Sam’s passing, the whirlwind of events that has followed has been reflected within the theatre of my mind, the former extravagance reduced to a thick layer of clouds and distant thunder. It’s a sad excuse for a recurring dream, and I often find myself impatient for the shriek of an alarm clock. Today, however, I am not roused from the murk by a clock but by a ringtone.
