I’ve had many experiences where my success with reaching goals in a limited time frame has been dependent on the implications of motivation on my attitude and behaviour. A particular experience is my hobby of playing piano, which has been impacted by extrinsic factors such as pressure from others, and intrinsic factors due to self-interest. Though I am young, piano has been in many chapters in my life, and the experiences showed the importance of finding the most effective motivation for me.

My parents recognized the energy I had, and gradually gave me independence to practice as much as I felt was necessary. Grasping this opportunity, my teacher also increased the workload. Though extrinsic pressures increased significantly, I felt less stressed because I sincerely enjoyed playing. When I began level 10 piano, I came to the the point where I played eight hours on Saturdays and four hours on Sunday. Much like video games, the amount of time I spent to reach goals gave me the achievement motivation to work harder. By observing their behaviour, I have learned their qualities and like the bobo doll experiment, I’ve come to realized that my teaching methods for my younger brother was also very similar to the way my father taught me. Since being a toddler, my disposition has always leaned towards an optimistic view.
