The overall energy from the students was pretty low. One thing that I found interesting was the pattern of communication. All of the students contributed to the conversation but they rarely interacted with each other. When they spoke, it was usually directed towards the adult members of the group rather than toward each other. Each student contributed differently to the session. The student who contributed the most was JR. TY also contributed some but mostly only when he was prompted. JD on the other hand, made minimal contributions to the group conversation. JR was very engaged in the conversation and reacted to almost everything that was said. At times, it seemed as though it was difficult for the other students to share because he was dominating the conversation. JD seemed especially annoyed when JR talked out of turn or cut someone off. This was obvious through her face gestures and body language. It was interesting that JR announced that he does not like to share much, but he was the one sharing the most during the session. It was overwhelming at times because I felt as though I was not contributing effectively. There were a few instances that I noticed I was listening to their words so that I could write them down, but I did not actually comprehend what the students were saying. In addition, when it was my turn to speak, I hadn’t thought about my response in advance because I was so focused on writing. If I had to do this assignment again in the future, I think it would be beneficial to tape record to session and then write out the dialogue after. In conclusion, my first impression was wrong, the classroom was not some kind of battlefield of teacher and student casualties. The students were not a lost cause that I imagine them to be. The students were well mannered and just wanted to be treated with respect. The classroom management was impeccable and astounding. It goes to show that although you may think you know a group of students you can be very mistaken.
As I planed to take this class, I thought this course would be like all other general education courses. I believed that it would be of little use to me. However, after attending the first class, my view has changed completely. I applied each and every theory to my life.
I am a qualified solicitor and in this role I have developed my communication skills. On one occasion I was representing a mother who was a victim of domestic violence. The father wanted to see his children but the mother was not allowing it due to the domestic violence. I acknowledged her concerns regarding the contact and explained that I understood why she would not want contact to take place. I also explained to the mother the courts view in terms of contact and domestic violence cases. I highlighted the fact that if she allowed contact without going to hearing she would still retain a level of control. I suggested that contact take place at a neutral location and be supervised by a friend or family member until she was comfortable with this arrangement. The client was reluctant but highlighted that the court would want some form of contact and she would have to adhere to this. However, by reaching an agreement outside of court she is not bound by it and will be in control. The client agreed to
Communication competence is the ability to achieve ones goals in manner that is personally acceptable and, ideally acceptable to others. (Adler, 2013) Communication competence is the ability to choose a communication behavior that is both appropriate and effective for a given situation. Interpersonal competency permits one to accomplish their communication goals without initiating the other party to lose face. In order to communicate properly and ideally you must first learn what the best way to address any situation and how it will be most accepted. Are you a competent communicator?
“Choose something that you’re good at.” This was the advice given to me by my mom before applying to college. “Choose a major that will get you a good job, but also something that you like.” These are the words that came out of her mouth; these are words that say one thing but really mean another.
I would like to start out by saying congratulations on your engagement. Groupthink is the psychological phenomenon in which groups working on a task think along the same lines which could have drastic results. It is the result of group polarization where discussions are enhance or exaggerate the initial leanings of the group. Therefore, if a group leans towards risky situation at the beginning of the discussion on average they will move toward an even riskier position. (Marks, 2015). The idea when everyone think the same no one is really thinking. The drastic outcomes result from people trying to avoid conflict with one another, being highly cohesive, and results is questionable decision making (Oliver, 2013). I graduated from butte college in 1997 with an AS degree in Licensed vocational nursing. I later decided to further my education in nursing and returned to college, I graduated with an AS degree in Registered nursing in 2002 from butte college. I am currently attending Pacific college to earn my BSN degree. Right after I obtained my LVN license I went to worked at Oroville hospital, I worked for Oroville hospital for one year, then I decided to make a change and I went to work for California Forensic Medical Group which is a subcontracted company for the Butte County jail and I have been there ever since. I am married and have 4 boys and 2 dogs. In my spare time I love to ride my Harley.
Interpersonal communication is one of the significant skills while communicating with other individuals. It normally covers an extensive area and includes both verbal and non-verbal communication. Body language and facial expression may affect the accurateness of the message transmission directly. Interpersonal communication skills normally ensure that the message is sent and received correctly without any alteration thus improving the communication efficiency. Learning diverse aspects of interpersonal communication has greatly aided me in better understanding of what it consists. I am capable of applying the knowledge gained from this course to my personal experiences. This paper reflects on my personal experience in learning interpersonal communication.
In reflection on my learning experience in the group class, I have gained clarity on what sorts of competencies of facilitating group therapy, as well as in what areas social workers and students tend to feel most strong in my practice. Regarding my specific gains in competencies, I feel that I learned the most and was most likely to gain specific group facilitating competencies at the weekly class. Learning in group class is taught me the tools to use to work with groups therapy, communities and also with individuals through the process of changes. It is essential to building and maintaining relationships in the workplace. Some highly productive and dynamic organizations are distinctly different and striking due to their excellent skills in communication.
Communication in the workplace is very important for employees and companies and through this the company is effective and achieve its objectives. This reduces miscommunication and poor communication. Thus increasing the spirit of cooperation and commitment. Thus increasing the productivity of the organization. When the manager talks with the staff feel the value and understanding this leads to an increase in job satisfaction. Of course when you find people who have team spirit and collaborators, this helps the manager and employees feel that they have one goal to achieve.
Now the communication class is almost over I have realize how important is to have good communication skills, and how it is key to life. I have learned many things in this class for example ways to approach strangers. Another thing that I have learned how to handle conflict and how sometimes it could be good it not always bad and many others. The way I look things have change to have reach my goals. This class was has also taught me how to look in the “other” perceptive, and not being selfish by just seeing one side. By conveying your message and integrating them as a member of the team and not just a subordinate leads to better production. By effectively communicating you can clearly define job responsibilities and expectations. The better you are able to communicate the less likely organizational turnover of personnel will occur. Supervisors and leaders in the professional workplace find that the most important factor in advancement and retain ability is effective communication. Senior level executives and human resources managers are stressing the importance of communication and providing more training for mid-level management. Emphasis is placed on communication being clear by being transmitted strongly.
