Reflective Essay
When I first started Comp 1 my main goal for the class was to pass it and get the college credit. At first, the grade did not matter to me that much. Now that I am almost done with the class my goal has changed to passing Comp 1 with an A. I changed my goal because, I realized that I had grown as a writer to the point that I could do it. In this essay I will explain everything I learned and how I grew as a writer from essay to essay.
Our first essay we wrote was an Ad Analysis essay. It was a five paragraph essay about how effective an ad, of your choice, was. I chose a full page Snickers ad. Before we did the Ad Analysis essay I had only written two essays. So the whole idea of writing essays was completely new to me. At first, I was betting that I would not make any higher than a C on it. But, as I learned how to write it, I slowly started feeling better and better about it. I eventually made an 88 on the essay. From the essay I learned that I struggled significantly with transitions and commas. It helped me grow as a writer by teaching my how to writer by teaching my how to write an Ad Analysis correctly.
Our second essay we wrote was a Comparative Analysis essay. It was a five paragraph essay comparing and contrasting Feudalism and School

It was a three page essay arguing either for or against a topic of your choice. My essay was against standardized testing. I enjoyed writing this essay because, I believe that standardized tests hurts student education. For this reason I felt like I was going to make an A on this essay. So I was disappointed when I saw that I made only an 85 on it. My main problem in this essay was that I made to many carless mistakes on little stuff. From this essay I learned about the different ways standardized testing hurts student education. This essay helped me grow as a writer my making me think of both sides to an argument, not just one or the
State Farm’s ad in Time magazine (December 2015) accurately targets young well educated adults who are in a professional job. State Farm’s ad is a picture of a professional looking mother and her kids getting into they’re grey van. The grey van is split in half and the right side is missing. The other half of the van is replaced with the right side of a RV. Outside the RV an older looking woman and her husband are camping out. In white letters cut out of a red block. It says “INSURE YOU NOW” (Pg. 43). That phrase is over the mother and her kids. Over the RV and older woman it says “ENSURE YOUR FUTURE” (Pg. 43). State Farm’s ad reaches toward young, well educated, professional looking adults. The ad does this magnificently through color, layout,
In fact, I began this semester with plans to accomplish skills that would eventually bring me to an understanding of what a great writer is. During the summer I attended an English mini course which proved to be just a quick version of some high school rules on writing, that did not require much thinking or writing tasks, but it did provide an understanding of what was going to be expected in colle...
In this semester, I had to take the English 1301 course. However, I did not see myself liking this course and did not have the best attitude towards it. This course changed my overall experience with writing. In the course I gained so much knowledge that I did not see myself learning. This essay will help analyze my experience throughout the entire journey. It will help understand how I became the writer I am today. Over the last several weeks, I have grown into a great writer that I did not see myself as.
The first day of my junior year I was extremely overwhelmed by this class; all the essays we were required to write in the first week didn't help much either. However, since the beginning of the year I have learned so many useful and important lessons which have guided my learning throughout this first semester and, I'm assuming, will continue to guide me for the rest of my high school experience and beyond. In addition, I have made many goals which pertain to essays I have written, and I believe I have met those goals.
Without doubt besides to know how to write a sentence, it is vital to know the parts of an essay. In this course I had the opportunity to go through different types of essays that helped me to understand how an introduction, thesis, body paragraphs, and conclusion work. Also, how these parts are connected together and make a different function depending of what type of essay I am writing for example, argumentation, narration, process, or any other. Although, I cannot say I became a professional writer after have learned this points, I can say, I became a better one.
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
In the second essay I used the writing process and the outcome was way better. So I learned that so things are there to be learned and that will benefit you in college. Also I learned to be responsible when it comes to grades, turn in assignments due in class, and many other things. I learned this lesson because one day I didn’t turned in an assignment on time and the teacher said that it was a 0 for the day. In high school some teacher, like Ms. Perez, give the students the chance to turn in work the next day, but at that time I realized I was not in high school. So I got my schedule of homework on point and I decided to turn in all my college work on time. The outcome was good grades on assignment and not misunderstood with the instructor. “Be on time if you can’t be there early.” Said by Robin Sharma. Being on time is important to any individual, going into a date, to work and to class. You have to be responsible on be on time wherever they cited you, it is a sign of respect. One day my dad took me to get a new phone, knowing that I had college class. I was in Nuevo Laredo and it took a lot to get me my phone, so I arrived to class late. The students where already taking an exam. I asked Mr. Benavides “what
‘I am going to fail’ was the very first thought that crept into my mind on that very first day of class. Before I stepped into the classroom on the first day, I felt pretty good about my writing. I had done previously well in English, and didn’t think this class would be much of a challenge. This all changed on the first day of school, when my professor talked about the level of reading and writing expected for this class. I remember thinking ‘I don’t read, why couldn’t I have been born someone who likes to read?!’ Since this moment on the very first day of class, I have grown immensely through hard work. In this essay, I will explain what I have learned over the course of this class about myself, and about writing.
My goal as a writer is simple: write a paper that wants to be read. I know, every writer wants to be noticeable. They want fame, wealth and notoriety. But for me, I just want a paper that people would enjoy. As a writer I want to spark the passion of my reader, I want him/her to walk away and go “Wow I actually never thought of it like that”, or something like that. As I am right now, I am not at that level. I have not written a piece that I can truly be proud of, something that makes me feel that I, Adam, am a very good writer. But that is why I joined AP Lang and Comp: to help myself become a better writer. I feel that this class can help me in my journey to becoming a better writer. I feel that once I master how to write a meaningful paper, I can expand my horizon. In this justification
Makeup ads are debatably the most persuasive ads our society falls victim to on a daily basis. People, mainly women, love to read and hear that they have a chance to look ‘flawless’ or ‘perfect’. The Revlon Just Bitten Kissable ad is under extreme criticism during this essay because it was put together with weasel words, catchy sentences, and a pretty face. Who would not want to look like a celebrity, have amazing skin, and have the perfect kiss whenever they ware with their attractive partner? No one. That is exactly why ads, such as this Revlon lipstick ad, make their companies millions of dollars a year. Revlon has been one of the leading companies for makeup sales since 1931. With that being said, consumers have obviously been pleased with the results of Revlon products. Even though the products are credible and they have been satisfying customers for eighty-three years, they will not make anything about you ‘perfect’.
As my English 101 class comes to an end, I have realized how much I have transformed as a writer. In this essay, I am going to explain what I realized my strengths and weaknesses are as a writer and how they have manifested themselves throughout the quarter. I was skeptical at first coming into this class knowing that English takes formidable work and dedication, but I am very proud of the progress I have made. We completed a great deal of work throughout the quarter; from grammar exercises, summary reviews, and two challenging essays. Throughout the quarter I found myself improving in each category. As a writer, my skills and confidence have developed into more clarity and thought, something I have always wanted to be, as a result of a well constructed class that led to a superb educational experience.
This class has been significantly more difficult than any other English class I have taken all throughout high school. This semester, I have been introduced to different styles of writing that I have never been exposed to before. This class has been stressful, but also fun. With using all of the resources I have been given throughout the semester, I have been able to do my best to further my writing abilities and hopefully only continue to grow them as I finish my later years in college. Throughout this essay, I will discuss my failures, my successes, my overall performance in the class, and my skill development skills.
I had always been a strong writer in high school; I know how to form an argument and support it fully, but this did not prepare me for the writing at a college level. I expected to be reading long and boring books about topics that did not pertain to my life; as it turns out, this assumption was completely false. All of the three essays that we were required to read in class were fairly difficult to understand, but after a second reading, the essay's meaning became clearer. I also feel as though their messages and key ideas are captivating. I definitely thought they would be extremely dry and difficult to understand.
I never had any interest in writing before entering high school, I never enjoyed writing essays. I believe the reason was I did not find it necessary to write a 5-page essay on 'To Kill a Mockingbird '. In the real world we will write a page or two for job opportunities and some for the job itself, but hardly ever will you need to write an essay on some book or event in time;
Weaknesses Despite existential therapy possessing a number of strengths, there are also a number of weaknesses that come with this approach to therapy. Firstly, one of the most prevalent criticisms of this approach is that it does not possess a systematic statement of principles and practices of psychotherapy (Corey, 2013). So, one of the things that allows this method of therapy to be so successful is also one of its greatest detractors.
