Leadership from the Inside-Out: Reflection American Business CEO Ray Kroc once stated that and individual’s leadership qualities are judged by the standards they set for themselves and their followers. If leaders are not willing to create standards for themselves then they will fail to establish a concrete framework for their organizations. Often times, leaders try to avoid this failure by learning about themselves and establishing personal values, which can be used to influence their subordinates. Although it is important for leaders to use their authentic nature to establish a paradigm for an organization, it is more important for them achieve a communicative relationship with their internal nature and the external environment. Regardless of the type of company a leader is in charge of, every managerial decision or action is influenced by both values and external situations (Gupta, 2009, p.1). Leaders need to be able to understand how to adapt in both their internal values and external environment in order to make effective decisions. Therefore, the inside out method would benefit from having a fourth concept discussing importance of adaptation. The section should include the following external adaption techniques as principles for supporting the concept: Forecasting and planning, and reorganization. The first technique is used to help leaders predict the future changes of their company’s external environment. Forecasting and planning helps organizations to reduce any adverse impacts that may hinder their future productivity (Gupta, 2009, p.1). If this technique were to be incorporated as a principle for the Inside-Out method, leaders would be able to learn how to use their self-awareness to develop a sense of foresight. This foresight could then be used to help their organizations create ways to connect to the environment’s dynamic changes. Across the globe, there are CEO’s, managers, and several other individual’s in leadership-type roles that have the expectation of making their company successful in the eyes of the investors, the employees, and the customers that they serve. This may be measured by a company’s gross profitability, employee engagement or overall customer satisfaction. Most companies have leadership models and strategies in place that leaders are expected to use in order to drive the expectations of the company while maintaining consistency across the business. In an effort to examine various types of leadership styles, I have conducted interviews with two individuals that are or have been previously tasked with leading their teams and their company towards success.
They have profound convictions for for their leadership; Their behavior always reflect their core values and they view themselves as individuals that “lead with their hearts as well as their heads while also building enduring organizations” (George 2003). Leaders are encouraged to maintain the perception of authenticity but making sure that their words are consistent and reflect their action or intentions. They should not be so pompous and arrogant that they cannot relate to or find mutual and common ground with their staff. (Goffee & Jones 2005)
A leadership theory is a clarification of some features of leadership; theories have practical importance as they are being used for better understanding, anticipating, and controlling successful leadership. Hence, the main principle of any theory is to inform practice(Lussier and Achua 2009). Leadership theories could be classified into eight main categories: Great man, trait, behavioral, contingency, Situational, Participative, Relationship , management (Cherry 2010).
The role of leadership has become increasing valuable for organizations to be successful. According to Huber (2014), Leadership can best be defined as method utilized to ensure that an objective is completed. There are many different types of leaderships that can be found within each organization. In this paper I will highlight an example of a specific leadership style that we come across in healthcare settings. I will review my leadership self-assessment results and discuss the impact of leadership on staff and groups.

The contemporary business environment is dynamic, ever-changing and increasingly competitive. Their is potential for success, but even more for failure. Businesses are heavily influenced by the changing organisational environment and this intern creates much uncertainty for managers and organisations. With increasing uncertainty in the external environment, the more important it is that managers engage in continual planning. (Robbins 2012 p. 32) Businesses must be flexible and evolve in accordance with their external environment.
Over the course of my professional career in different organizations in the past three years, I have worked under many managers. This has been a learning curve for me to understand the different managing styles and leadership characteristics of people. One of the managers whom I worked under, was the lead in a government project which also happened to be my last project before I took a break for continuing my studies, is a person I admire till date. I learned several life lessons in addition to the technical subject associated with the industry. This paper demonstrates the leadership styles exhibited by my manager with suitable examples.
This report discusses how management prepares them to anticipate change in the business environment in the long run and short run too. Change is very important for each and every organization in today’s world because world today has become a daily changing place and in order to keep pace with the changing world we need to bring about a constant change in our organizations, too. According to Bryant (2016), “self-leadership is the process by which you influence yourself to achieve your objectives.” So how do you achieve this, you start with developing your leadership point of view. Developing my leadership point of view forced me to reflect on the leader models in my life. It also forced me to evaluate the key events and experiences from my past and determine how they have impacted me as a leader. This self-reflection process allowed me to discover who I am, what my values and beliefs are and what my true purpose is in life. Thus far, this process has made me more self-aware and self-awareness is key to self-motivation and motivating others.
