Reflection Paper Having the chance to experience clinical rotations on the telemetry, medical surgical, labor and delivery and postpartum floors so far have been incredible. Although, throughout these last few months, I have certainly seen many nurses converse and behave in ways I would never imagine a registered nurse to. From these experiences I learned easier ways to quickly set up equipment, how to properly address situations when the family is present, and how to effectively communicate between doctors, physical therapists and case managers. As for the nurses who improperly cared for their patients, those nurses will be examples of who I tell myself I will never become. The top three priorities I have for myself in my nursing practice
“Perceived barriers to participating in continued education (CE) may exist to make it difficult for nurses to incorporate CE into their professional practice. Reasons for non-participation in health professional CE courses identified barriers such as cost, lack of time, inconvenient scheduling, lack of information about educational opportunities, job responsibilities, home responsibilities, lack of interest, and lack of confidence” (Dean, 2004). I feel that the lack of time, home responsibilities, and stress of my job would be barriers pertinent to myself. I now know the importance of using evidence based practice in everything I do in the hospital when it comes to the safety and quality of care I am giving my patient. Knowledge does not have to be gained by completing CE hours or continuing education through college. It can come from researching studies that implement evidence based practice and attending a skills seminar sponsored by the hospital; it does not have to cost any money.
