I am taking HLST 3110 as my elective course for fourth year. I know there are tons of courses out there, but this course caught my attention and there are three reasons why. Firstly, I want to take an elective course that is related to my program, which is in Health Management or anything more generally related to health studies. I want to enhance and expand my knowledge in the field of health studies so that I can use what I’ve learned in the future because one day, I want to be a healthcare administrator that can manage a healthcare facilities or a systems and provide quality of care and efficiency. And to achieve this, it is important to perceive not only the internal environmental factors, but also the external factors that can affect the performance of healthcare …show more content…
quality. Health policies are considered as an external factor because health policy decision makers have the authority to develop and implement policies that can influence healthcare and affect the outcomes of health systems.
The second reason I am taking this course was mainly because my friends recommended it. My friends took this course last school year and they were not only pleased with how the course was, they loved how Dr. Lexchin, the professor, was knowledgeable, passionate about his teaching, and cared for his student and was willing to help them to succeed. Therefore, I did a little research about this course and of course, about the professor. Based on the web site, Rate my Professors, I found out that Dr. Lexchin had a great deal of good and positive feedbacks from students who taken his class. As a result, this encouraged me to enroll in his class, HLST 3110. Lastly, I am taking this course because in my second year I took HLST 2020, Health Policy: Power and Politics as my mandatory course for my program and I actually liked it and did well on it. Therefore, this experienced also encouraged me to take this course because health policy, interest me and I am definitely eager to learn more about
it. What I hope to learn from this course is to understand and analyze health policy decisions and how they are formed and implemented within the healthcare sector. Thereby, I can appreciate the usefulness of an analytic approach to policy and also identify policy options and the conditions that make more feasible than others. I personally think the Medicare was the major event in the history of Canadian health policy. Medicare is designed to ensure that financial barriers are not an obstacle to accessing medical services. The concept of Medicare came from the Socialist Government in Saskatchewan who led and rule by Tommy Douglas because he introduces the first provincial hospital insurance program in Canada, which he was known as the Father of Medicare. The introduction of Medicare in Canada was the result of many changes in health polices, which was the major historical issue because the birth of Medicare from Saskatchewan’s breakthrough to Canada wide coverage and also, become Canadian law. The federal government introduced the “Medical Care Act”, making universal healthcare a reality for all Canadians. Canada passes universal health coverage law that the legislation provides for universal public coverage of hospital and doctor’s services to all Canadians.
The University of Phoenix Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration (BSHA) program is intended to support the educational and career progression needs of both trying and experienced health care professionals through complete and coordinated learning. Students concentrate on creating key market-driven abilities and aptitudes which address the opportunities and difficulties of an ever-changing health care industry. There are six student learning outcomes that faculty and staff hope for all students in the program to accomplish. These SLO’s are evaluation statements that test the knowledge of the student. If the student can effectively analyze and apply the outcome in relation to the degree program, the student and faculty has successfully
The class GEB3213 has allow me to have a peek of the work load will encounter if I become a Health Care Administer. The following is an outline of what I have learn in this course and how I will use it in the Health Care Administration field.
At the beginning of this class, students were warned about coming into this class with a certain mindset. Students were warned not to have the preconception of thinking that COMS 201 would teach them how to manipulate others into doing what they wanted. Guilty of this mindset I attempted to trick myself into thinking that I did not have that mindset. Getting through the first few modules on theory was difficult. I remember asking myself, “What did I sign up for?”. After getting through the first few modules I began to enjoy what I was learning, so much so, I caught myself referencing what I had learned in COMS 201 in other aspects of my life. Not before too long all of the modules became hard to keep track of in my head; thus, making
...mplications that allow for opportunities of change. One of the presumptions is for training and staffing (Shi & Singh, 2012). With the utilization of health care improvements, the staff will need additional instructions on the performance of equipment and how to efficiently achieve the desired results. Managers or supervisors recognize the need for supplemental staffing and training to optimize patient satisfaction and quality of care. The health care administrator must also focus on changes in insurance policies and rules governing the provision of medical assistance (Shi & Singh, 2012).
With the knowledge acquired through the classes I will be a better manager to server to my colleagues in my upcoming career and it will help brighten my future. My passion of being a leader within a healthcare facility comes from knowing that if employees are treated well and happy with their job they will have excellent customer service skills and treat patients with excellence. When a patient is sick they are at the most vulnerable time of their life. If you receive awesome customer service during your most vulnerable time you will feel grateful. I have had many patients at my job express how we don’t make them feel like other doctors office. The patient has expressed that at other doctor office they just feel like another number. When a patient feels as if the staff, doctors, and manager care they will see the whole environment as effective leaders for all healthcare organizations.
However, I do not want to do this at just any campus, but I want to accomplish this dream in a program whose staff puts the students’ needs before theirs. Anytime I have questions regarding documentation, I know that I can always depend on the University of Houston-Clear Lake staff to assist me with anything. Furthermore, when I conducted my research on different MHA programs, I desired to find a program near home and one that could provide me with countless possibilities. The MHA program at UHCL met both of those stipulations. The best thing for me was that UHCL’s MHA program offers classes in the largest medical center in the world. What better way to network, than to have classes in the Texas Medical Center, where I would have the opportunity to meet with professionals who were once in my
I am writing this letter as a self-reelection after taking WR 227 with you as my Professor. Like I mentioned in my e-mail I am not exactly sure how my career field will use writing, but after taking the class I realized that whatever it may be I will have the knowledge to do so. I feel more confident in my writing ability, and knowledge of how to find any material I could use on the job. Over the last term I would say my writing has grown in that I now know how to write professionally written documents. I would say the biggest success and proudest achievement was writing the resume and cover letter. I had originally taken a class in high school that was supposed to teach a bit of professional writing, but I think WR 227 was much better.
According to McConell (2012), the difference in a leader and a follower determines the success of a person regarding leadership. This chapter helps explain the content of qualities and proficiency for healthcare managers to be effective. Once again, effective management skills or certain qualifications enhance a healthcare organization environment. Healthcare managers and supervisors must have the capacity to handle challenges while the organization objectives and regulations may change over a period of time. Effective healthcare management governs the success of a healthcare organization. There are many different skill sets and leadership styles to be effective as a manager. People are interested in knowing what strategies are effective in healthcare management.
Which of the tensions identified and described do you find the most interesting and why?
Reflecting back on the all the information learned this semester, I am amazed at how much I learned. Working in healthcare makes you aware of a lot of the topics that were covered, however, when you apply it to yourself, in a personal relationship, it becomes much more powerful what the impact of each topic is.
Firstly, I have been in prolonged darkness on the matters concerning the domain of 'Policy & its making or analysis'. It was only through my profession as a Market Research Analyst in the Healthcare sector I have gained a familiarity and insight into this topic and related issues. I personally intend to take up this course to broaden my horizons of understanding and deepen my insights in Public Policy and its impacts on society at large and individual at the least. I am currently working in the Healthcare sector and have a reasonably good knowledge of how the status and constraints of healthcare in countries across the world.
Healthcare administration is a field that is often overlooked, but is essentially the beating heart of any healthcare organization. With more and more hospital, and clinics, and other healthcare organizations popping up everywhere there is a need for people like me to manage the day-to-day operations. I am choosing to apply to this program because I want to study how the U.S. healthcare system operates. I want to learn the essential skills of operating a healthcare facility such as managing a budget, reducing healthcare costs, analyzing the efficiency of an organization and proposing ways to improve it. This program is going to give me the necessary education and skills so I can carry out my goal of being a healthcare administrator.
As I started my Health Insurance class my belief was that this class will be pretty easy as I am familiar with much of the medical field. Personally having multiple illness’s and having three special needs children, personally I have learned so much within the medical field. However, as I began reading Chapters 1-3 in my Understanding Health Insurance book, the realization hit that I was not as knowledgeable as I thought I was. Therefore, I am eager and excited to learn new things in the medical field.
I attended Mass at my local parish, the Parish of St. Francis de Sales, on Sunday, October 9th, in order to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist. This also happens to be the 28th Sunday of Ordinary Time because the priest of the parish, Father Phan, wore green in order to symbolize life, anticipation for the coming of Christ, and hope. The liturgical season of Ordinary Time is also significant because it focuses on the fruits of Jesus’s three-year public ministry, his educational parables, and his extraordinary miracles. The season of Ordinary Time also serves as a reminder that the Church’s mission, our mission, is to not only share the life and hope of Jesus
Whether we realize or not, physics is a very prominent thing in all of our lives. Physics can be used to explain why just about everything in this world works the way it does. In physics class we learn multiple equations and how to apply those equations to multiple different problems and examples, but what happens when we try to apply these concepts ourselves in a real world situation? When first introduced to the Pack a Pringle project, I couldn’t believe how ridiculously easy of a project we had gotten. However, once I started to develop my own design and tested it out with the chip I realized how wrong I was. My partner and I came up with multiple different ideas, but we struggled to get a successful design down until the purpose of the
