Reaction Paper 4 As the Guest Lectures come to an end, I really enjoyed this portion of the career planning class, as I got to learn about so many careers in the STEM fields and how each of the speakers got into their respective position. Overall, the speakers today did a good job talking about their careers, but I felt like sometimes, I lost track of what they were talking about. The presentation that began with Dr. Cherie Yestrebsky started the class off really well, but then as it progressed to the other speakers, I felt that it was harder to follow along during the presentation. It was kind of hard to follow along with what Ryan Leitch said and it was also hard to follow along with Dr. Josh Colwell’s experiments, since I could not really …show more content…
Josh Colwell, talked to us about Space Science and the various projects that he works on, like the spacecraft, Cassini, which is currently orbiting Saturn. I did not understand much of what he was talking about other than the fact that Earth is so miniscule compared to the size of Saturn and its rings. I think he talked about things that were way out of our current league of studies and that caused me to be confused in his presentation. Also, the experiments and videos that he included in his presentation left me really confused because I did not quite catch on to what those experiments were for, nor what the purposes were for those experiments. One of the things that I remember he mentioned was that he had to do a lot of writing in his field and according to O*Net, Physics Professors, “Conduct research in a particular field of knowledge and publish findings in professional journals, books, or electronic …show more content…
Kimberly talked about how she was originally interested in the biomedical fields, but then as she interned for various companies, she somehow ended up in Engineering. I do not recall that she mentioned how she moved from biomed to engineering, so that I was one of the parts that I did not get in her presentation. She spoke about the various areas that she was responsible for, even though she was a Mechanical Engineer. I think one of the things that stood out to me during her presentation was the quote, “Jack of all trades, but master of none.” I like how she said that part of her job was to adapt to other position as she did not only work as a Mechanical Engineer, but also in Hydraulics, Structural Engineer, and motors among a bunch of other areas. In the presentation Kimberly mentioned that she took the drawing of the entertainment area and made them possible through her job, and that corresponds with O*Net about how Mechanical Engineers, “Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated
Sandro A. Carrasco is a Pratt alumnus. He graduated in 2012, with a Bachelors of Architecture degree. He is currently the associate project manager for Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), at their Madison Avenue, New York, New York office. I am inspired by the many positions Sandro held, during his tenure at Turner Construction Company. A company, I intend to work for upon graduation. Therefore, I wanted to learn about the transition process. I was also curious to learn more about Sandro and his experiences. Therefore, this desire to establish a mentorship with Sandro motivated my decision to interview him; for the betterment of my career, in the future.
Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.

In 1998, Judith Rich Harris became famous since she made a point on the cause of children’s behavior, that “in some key sense, parents don’t much matter—that what’s important is not what children learn inside home but what they learn outside the home (peer influence)” (Malcolm Gladwell, 1998). This point does make sense, because children always have a need to “fit-in”, to have friendships and to gain a sense of belonging from their peer groups. Apparently, learning from their peers can make the process much easier, since people who have common hobbies and share similar values tend to stay together, and that’s usually how a peer group is formed. Considering the generation gap between parents and children, copying the behaviors and thoughts of parents can do no benefit to fulfill the need of peer relationships.

“The well-being of every person on this planet is inextricably tied to the quality of our common life,” at first, I was very confused as to what the following sentence was saying but having spent some time thinking about it, I completely agree. This statement is saying that the personal choices we make every day impact those around us and I think this is very true. The thought of my personal choices affecting those around me is scary because I wouldn’t want to be the one to harm others. If someone had asked me this before taking Core 5, I would have most likely said no the statement above is not true. However, after hearing many lectures and doing all of the readings I can say that our choices, no matter how big or how small, can affect others in more ways than I had thought possible.
My time observing was not only educational for me on how to become the teacher I desire to be, but as well as how to better myself as a student and improve my own learning. I observed some wonderful learning tools that I have since implemented into my own education to develop my own learning.
Whether we realize or not, physics is a very prominent thing in all of our lives. Physics can be used to explain why just about everything in this world works the way it does. In physics class we learn multiple equations and how to apply those equations to multiple different problems and examples, but what happens when we try to apply these concepts ourselves in a real world situation? When first introduced to the Pack a Pringle project, I couldn’t believe how ridiculously easy of a project we had gotten. However, once I started to develop my own design and tested it out with the chip I realized how wrong I was. My partner and I came up with multiple different ideas, but we struggled to get a successful design down until the purpose of the
I learned that it is possible to discuss social issues looking into History of Science and vice-versa, and it matters to me because it means that scientists may not be giving enough attention to the History of Science – I was in my 5th semester of College in Brazil and this is the first time I am really looking into History of Science. More like a continuation of my two last papers than only one paper, I made a review with what I learned previously and this last section. If someone would ask me why, I would say that is because I learned that sometimes we can solve the problems of tomorrow looking right back to the past.
Interning at the Home of the Innocents has allowed me to learn the full circle. From forming goals, implementing activities, and looking at the progress made by each child. My schedule has not allowed me to participate in care plans, volunteer and new employee orientation. Along with completing a new admission assessment but they are things I would like to do. Before interning I didn’t realize what kinds of communication I would encounter, I have learned a lot communication practices interning at the “Home”. I have been able to develop specific skills such as communication and creativity that helps me throughout my internship and that could help me in other future job opportunities. I have also been able to implement a lot from my Outdoor Leadership

The college I have graduated from has changed my way of thinking and imagining the world in ways I didn’t see coming. It would take an apologetics conference in Atlanta, Georgia to realize fully what my college experience had planted in my heart, and it was ugly.
Growing up I was always fascinated with airplanes and the flying world, so from a very young age I knew that I was going to pursue a career as an airline pilot. Over the years my passion for aviation continued to grow and I was extremely thrilled to finally make my dream a reality when I enrolled in the aviation program here at the University of Oklahoma. Coming into the program I had very little knowledge of aviation as a whole, but I did know that the aviation world was coming to a point where the need for commercial pilots was beginning to increase dramatically. I even got to speak with a few Delta and American pilots this summer and all of them said, “we need more young people to step up and become pilots or
