This project has ignited many plans and visions in me to improve my community development responsibility. I believe our communities are often faced with unprecedented challenges that need solutions; which often lies in the hands of same inhabitant of the community. I believe this class has opened my eyes to see what I can do to join our government in leading our community towards a productive and positive direction.
In our community, we have had to deal with various social problems that has threatened our wellbeing as humans and most especially the children. These issues include peer pressure, crimes, drug related violence, divorce, inadequate employment opportunities, career development programs for our youths, and low level mentoring projects

Another new concept to the mentoring that will be eventually added is working with the heroes of these children and seeing the possibility of creating a type of personal connection; another means for the children to see that their career ambition is not an illusion— it’s possible.
Community Transformer, being a new group, has made considerable effort to implement this plans despite many obstacles that is slowing down the progress. Though the team had to deal with personal issues getting in the way of their volunteering effort, but overtime, we made it work. This theory was helped created by House. This theory has assisted in re-defining how leaders improve follower’s motivation and ensuring the needed result towards a goal is reached by selecting the right concept for the situation. Ways that path goal theory recommended for leaders to follower’s motivation are directive, supportive, participative, and achievement-oriented. All this term has been carefully administered in the leadership process of our team and it’s actually helping to create a positive results. In this model leaders “select” specific behaviors that are best for the needs of his goal. According to the author there are four behaviors in the path goal theory that a leader could follow. One is the directive leadership, where the leader informs the followers what is expected from them. Another is the supportive leadership, that is when the leader shows concern for the followers and have friendly interactions with them. Third is participative leadership, when the captain gets involved with his team to achieve the goal as a group. Finally, is the achievement leadership; occurs when the leader demand from the followers challenging goals so they perform their best. Is education wasted on low income families? Are housing projects and ghettos nothing except undying monsters for taxpayers to fight? According to society, maybe. According to Principal Clark, no. Not only does he believe in his students, but he forces them to believe in themselves. Joe Clark makes very compelling appeals to the three rhetorical devices, pathos, ethos and, logos. Joe Clark was an excellent principal in all areas, this idea is further proven by the speech he gave his students before their skills test.
Social control can either be informal (parents etc.) or formal (police etc.) and without these controls, juveniles become more susceptible to delinquency (Shaw,McKay,1942). In the city of Erie, there are a lot of neighborhoods in which are breaking down, especially the one around the Boys and Girls club. On my last day at the Boys and Girls club, a young girl was jumped just a few blocks down from the center; she was just walking home. The city of Erie itself has pocket communities of poverty which are in close proximity to communities which are more prosperous. From others who I had talked to at the club, those who worked their often had to deal with parents who did not care, were not around, or were negative influences in the child’s life. A few of the older kids at the Boys and Girls club had been involved with gangs, drug abuse and selling, and have been effected in some way by the violence in the low income neighborhoods they lived in. My project will take place at Harbor House, a homeless shelter for teens. The Supervised Transitional Living Program provides shelter for up to 18 months, for adolescents boys and girls ages 16-21. The purpose of my project is to address the injustice of lack of education on these social issues. Many homeless adolescents in the program have experienced discrimination based on these social issues. By educating the youth in the shelter on these social issues, it will prevent reoccurs of youth being singled out because their black, white, gay, mental ill, etc. Picking on someone because they’re different is bullying, which is a social injustice. Therefore, it’s important to education the youth and to spread awareness about these social issues
The stories and resilience I’ve seen and heard remind of the importance of civic engagement and leadership. I recognize that without the support of mentors such as Mr. Bravo, I would not be writing these words today. At age 22, I have returned to the community that shaped the individual I am today. My way of giving back for the opportunities I have had in life is by serving as a resource, mentor, and tutor to the youth in my community. I work closely with 11 at risk eight grade students at Carver Middle School, a school in South Los Angeles. My purpose in serving in this community is because my students deserve a quality education that will allow them to develop the skills to be civically engaged citizens. Therefore, building brave spaces for my students is crucial to me; because, I am aware of the importance of social and emotional support of one’s personal and professional development. I want my students to know that they matter and that they are not
Path-goal theory deals with the leader's style to motivate followers, to accomplish set goals (Northouse, 2010). The path-goal theory is simply the implication that a leader works with an individual to establish a goal. The leader does this by individual motivation to achieve the proposed goal, while working through obstacles that may hinder achieving that goal (Whitener, 2007). The basic assumption of path-goal theory is that the following motivates subordinates: the capability to perform the work, their efforts will result in a certain outcome, and the payoff will be worthwhile (Whitener, 2007). The path-goal theory is a pragmatic approach that the leader uses to motivate the followers to achieve the set goals.
Many theories have been introduced to shape the leadership approach. As in today’s world, it is important for one to have the most resourceful skill when it comes to leadership. It is being fulfilled by incorporating proper leadership approach. To fulfill the social needs path-goal is useful for a leader than any other theories to be successful. This theory is based on emphasizing a leader 's technique or actions that fit the employee and work atmosphere in order to achieve a goal within an organization. For leaders in an organization, it is crucial to motivating the subordinates to achieve a goal. A person needs three things to motivate them, someone to love, something to hope for, or something to do (Flight of the Phoenix, 2004). “Leadership is often achieved by meeting” these three “basic human needs” (ACU, 2012). By implementing leadership theories that meet at least one of these needs you will be able to create a team with a purpose.
I believe that my goal as an educator is to focus on helping students develop character and prepare for active citizenship. According to Joel Westheimer and Joseph Kahne, there are three types of citizens: (1) the personally responsible citizen, (2) the participatory citizen, and (3) the justice-oriented citizen. I believe that all three types of citizens are the kinds of citizens educators should want their students to become. With this in mind, I will promote the duties and responsibilities of these citizens in my classroom curriculum. I will give my students opportunities to be good citizens throughout my daily lessons.
In today's more rapidly changing world, leadership prevails everywhere. It is playing a more important role not only in our personal life but also in our professional life, because leadership has a great impact and influence on people. So, utilizing leadership adequately can bring us a piece of attractive picture. To use humanizing actions is a critical leadership skill, which will be discussed in the following paragraphs, to motivate and inspire energy of team members to achieve the set goal. I would like to use Contingency Theory and Integrative Theory and Path Goal Model and Follower-ship to demonstrate that this critical skill has an impact on leadership effectiveness.

Raising community awareness to students will teach them the importance of being involved in the community. Students being able to give back to the community will prepare them for their journey to being a positive role model or servant leader.
The thought of community service was a bore to me before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it over with. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.
We have a responsibility to cultivate a sense of community and belonging. The quote, “It takes a village to raise a child”, rings true in so many ways. Education is a collaborative effort that needs leadership and a strong vision. Co-operation among all stakeholders is essential. A community is an essential extension of a school. Relationships between a school and its’ community, whether educational, entrepreneurial, co-operative or charitable, should not just be encouraged but pursued.
