The first day of class was unlike any other class that I have ever had. Your method of being straightforward and cutting to meaning really drew me into the teachings of this class and your philosophy. I would never have thought that my Industrial Organization psychology class could influence my life and decisions in everyday life. Through the methods and integration of this class I have carried many of these things into my everyday life. More importantly, I have taken what I have learned in class and used it to help friends and love ones.
There are eighty six thousand four hundred seconds in one day how do you spend them. At first, this experiment took me by surprise because when it comes to money we know how we would spend it. Yet, we have

I personally learned quite a lot from the shape assimilation. I would have never known that this was an actual form of forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjoining. To be honest I would have never thought you could have done all those shapes in less than ten seconds. The beginning was quite difficult because the group wanted to come up with a strategy, but then we found it and performed. I have personally never seen a group build so quickly in my life. I have been apart of many group projects and they are either a complete disaster or all right. I never knew that a full functioning team was supposed to know everyone’s part as well as, their own. It made my group and I feel very accomplished because we were frustrated in the beginning, but then came together as a team and won with the lowest time. This learning experience really helped me understand the group and team dynamic because I was never taught hands. Rather through out my school career we were told to form groups and rather than come together like we did in the game. We just assigned each other parts and showed up for the presentation. After that, we would never really talk about our experience and only cared about our grade. All in all, learning hands on about teams and groups was very helpful because you visualize and feel what it is like to form, storm, norm,
In addition to this, I feel that my Team building class gave me good insight into the inner workings and mechanics of how teams work. More work.
As I planed to take this class, I thought this course would be like all other general education courses. I believed that it would be of little use to me. However, after attending the first class, my view has changed completely. I applied each and every theory to my life.
The term psychology has many meanings to different people, even to those who work within the psychological field. The word psychology derives from two Greek roots; 'psyche' refers to 'soul' or 'mind' and logo refers to 'the study of'. A more update definition of the word psychology can be found from Atkinson, et al (1991) “The scientific study of behaviours and mental processes.” However on Google Definitions the definition of psychology is “the mental characteristics and attitudes of a person” [accessed 16 September 2011], which gives somewhat of a contradiction. In this assignment I will be outlining and evaluating four key psychological perspectives. The psychological perspectives I have chosen are the behavioural approach, biological approach, cognitive approach and the psychodynamic approach.
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
( long story, I understand if you don't read it ) - REFLEJOS / REFLECTIONS. It is exactly what I think most of us are, as I explained to a good friend of mine the other day. Since the day we were born, our minds were empty as a blank piece of paper, our relatives, teachers, religious mentors, books, Hollywood, personal experiences, friends, etc. etc. And even our parents in the purest of their intentions left written a story, yes they all left a note with all their beliefs and judgements about life clearly described for your " Protection" " listen to my advise" "I have lived more than you" ( hey of course if someone tells you no to put your hand on a bonfire, pay close attention'cause is gonna hurt like hell )... Now in the era of Computers, that story or note became a software in our System a program.
I never noticed how much psychology could be incorporated into everyday life. But really, any decision or action you take is related to it. I have personally been extremely interested in social psychology: why people do things because of social norms, what people do in order to look socially acceptable, etc. Others topics I also find interesting are sensation and perception; how past experiences can influence how you perceive the things around you, states of consciousness; how things that have happened in your day can be transferred into a mash of events in your dreams, motivation and emotion; what makes a person do something or what makes a person start or stop procrastination, and lastly: personality; what characteristics and traits stand out the most in a person, what makes a person who they are.
... This quarter was a busy one for me but luckily I was able to connect to content of the course material and apply it to my professional life. Psychology is an imitating subject at times but the fact that it was based around an organizational format made it more relatable. Thank you for being understanding of my different points of view which sometimes makes people question me. I will apply the material and strategies that I have learned to my career going forward. Thanks again for a great class and best of luck in the future.
Throughout this course I have learned a lot about psychology. I will talk about how it affected me personally, socially, organizationally/societal, and the lasting impact it had in my life.
Throughout this semester, our class has read four powerful and influential pieces by James Baldwin, Gloria Anzaldua, Haunani-Kay Trask, and Nick Bear. The first piece we ever looked at was Baldwin’s “If Black English Isn’t a Language, Then Tell Me, What Is?” This was our first writing assignment, focusing on using generative writing to get our ideas from our heads onto the paper, to then develop later. However, we were still supposed to focus on the PAR criteria, in order to get an idea on how we would need to develop our writing and our own pieces to pass the class. One of the first mistakes I made as a writer was as follows: “I really enjoyed the latter quote, on page 263. The importance of this quote, to me anyway, is that in every language, there is a common language. You know, English, French, Spanish, Italian, that sort of thing.” (Barley, Ass. 3)
Psychology deals with the study of mental processes and a variety of behaviors. In order to fully comprehend ourselves, we need to understand the causes of our behaviors and our outlook on life. Habits and behaviors have positive and negative effects in our life. When we know ourselves and learn about our unique personality, we can develop and pursue goals. Psychology also helps us to understand other people and the differences of people. Gaining this knowledge can improve the relationships and enhance our communication skills. Throughout the psychology course I gained knowledge in various areas, and the topics that impacted me the most included: the introvert, anxiety disorders, stress management, self discipline and how to develop strong relationships.
Before discussing the American functionalist school of psychology it is important to analyse the early roots of psychology . From approximately 600 to 300 BC in the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Greece there has been philosophical interest in the mind and behaviour. The Egyptians, despite their experience believed that the heart was the seat of consciousness however Greek philosophers such as Aristotle believed that the heart was the seat of the mind and that the brain did not have a role in sensation and movement, he argued that “the brain is not responsible for any of the sensations at all. The correct view is that the seat and sources of sensation is the region of the heart” (Gross, C. G., 1995). Greek philosophers such as Socrates and Plato speculated on issues seen in modern psychology such as pleasure, pain, knowledge and mental illness.
II.Reflect:3.Intrapersonal Reflection: While looking at this person and observing his way of leaning with his back against the wall, his face was quite expressionless at first but within no time, his presence made me suspect him. I felt that I should not talk to him myself and to keep myself in safe position because I was volunteering at the front desk, I thought it would be best to ask help from Richard that he should talk to him instead of me. Later, when this grey haired fellow came and stood close to the welcome desk, I decided I should talk to him. I talked to him but when he chose not tell me his name and asked me instead where I was from, I hesitated telling him. I was cautious and wanted not to reveal my information before I saw myself in any kind of trouble. He heard me say my name and also saw my name tag and the spellings but I did not want
The complexities of the human mind, how it works, why it works, and why it deviates sometimes, were the factors that drew me towards the field of psychology. I was born in India and as I was growing up I realized that psychological problems were not discussed in public. The mystery and intrigue surrounding the disorders further instilled in me the need to understand them in detail. As I continue my academic journey I wish to delve into the depths of Clinical Psychology in order to understand psychopathology better and use my knowledge and skills to create customized intervention plans and to facilitate a harmonious living environment.
Over the classes of this semester Emily has demonstrate many emotions including anger, happiness etc. Emily often stay in her chair and doing the things that the teacher told them to do. She seldom gets angry, but there was one day in the afternoon. She was perfectly fine doing her homework and suddenly the girl who is sitting opposite side has kick her leg for about 5-6 times, at first 2-3 times she was okay and stay calm in her seat. And then, she raises her hand and tell the teacher that Jennifer has kick her many times, and this is not the first time she kicks her. Emily was really mad about Jennifer, I was the one who observe everything, and I told the teacher that Jennifer was not deliberately kick Emily. Since Jennifer likes to shake
I’ve learned so much through this course. This course helped me learn behavior and people around me. Now I can see how it is hard for the people to live with their disorders. The society treats those people like outcasts and most of them even laugh at their disorder. Every behavior can be explained by psychology.
