Discrimination is the act of “making a distinction in favor for or against a person or thing on the basis of the group, class, or category to which the person or thing belongs rather than according to actual merit; show partiality” (Discriminate). Discrimination is a very complex problem in American society. People will discriminate against each other because of lack knowledge or personal ignorance today, also People can judge others without thinking. For this reason, people compare themselves to ourselves, and their ideal model of a human being. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the types of discrimination, how to distinguish each type, and show how it affects people. In different places of employment there could be religious discrimination. Religion discrimination is unequal treatment of employees hinged on their personal beliefs. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission implements laws which prohibits discrimination against an employee
(and even someone who only applied for the job), because of age, race, color, national origin, disability. Some stores want to hire just based on a specific religious beliefs a person may have.
“An employer prohibits all his workers from wearing a headscarf (some religions require this for women) from his office. Generally, such policy is considered illegal unless the employer can justify that this is for work-related reasons.”(Legal resources pg. #1).Additionally, harassing individuals because of their religion is seen by making fun of employees or convincing them they are being disrespectful to the company dress code because of they wear religious clothing like hijabs, turbans and so on. “As long as an employee's religious practices do not genuinely interfere with the performance of his or her duties, the employer cannot base hiring, firing, promotion, or compensation decisions based on that employee's religion”(Religious Discrimination pg. # 1). Some religious people may be told to do jobs that no one else in the company wants to do. Furthermore, the First Amendment protects every citizen. They can believe what they want.
