Henry “Hank” Aaron once said “I had to do it for Jackie Robinson, and my people and myself and for everybody who ever called me a nigger” (Christensen). Racial discrimination is an issue that affects everything and everyone around the world. A definition of racial discrimination is when a certain race is basically picked on by another race just because they are different. In human society, all the races of the world’s inhabitants were or could be racially discriminated. This could be as simple as races having a different skin color to something more complex as races being discriminated for the way they use their money and how they make their money. So, due to their cultural differences and athletic ability, African Americans are often discriminated against by white coaches and fans.
First of all, African Americans are racially discriminated due to their cultural differences. The articles that show racial discrimination against African Americans by their cultural differences are articles one and two. The first article is about Donald Sterling, the former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. Sterling, a very rich man, got into some heat last year with the NBA over his comments against African Americans. For example, the text states “In your lousy fucking Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with and walking with black people” (Botelho, Smith, Fantz). This quotation shows racial discrimination because Donald Sterling does want his girlfriend to take pictures with African Americans and post them on the internet for the whole world to see. Donald Sterling also made a comment against Magic Johnson, a former NBA player and champion for the Los Angeles Lakers. Sterling stated “Admire him, bring him here, feed him, fuck him, but don’t put Magic on Instagram for the whole world to see so they have to call me” (Botelho, Smith, Fantz). …show more content…

This could be as simple as how fast one can run around a field to something as complex as how and why this player can hit homeruns while the other player cannot. But, African Americans are not measured on the same standards as whites. For example, “In short, blacks are running backs and outfielders because they are excluded from central, decision making, leadership roles” (Scully pg. 71). African Americans may be better at other positions, but since they are fast, they are put in these positions. But, an African American quarterback may not get the opportunity to play in a game because the whites think that he is not smart enough for the position or just because of their skin color. Also, many African Americans get paid less cash for doing well. The text states “In 1968 Baseball register, 20.7% of the whites, but only 8.6% of the black players, had received bonuses in excess of $20,000 in the year they entered baseball” (Scully pg. 69). This quote explains that white players get more bonuses than African Americans. Ongoing wage and salary unfairness are present here because of racial discrimination, as many of these African American ballplayers are better than the whites athletically. Even racial discrimination affected one of these best baseball players in history, Hank Aaron. Mr. Aaron grew up in Georgia as
