1. Overarching (lay) description of the project
a) Introduction
The Queensferry Crossing Bridge Project is a critical project for the society in Scotland. According to Transport Scotland (2015), the project implementation process is on progress taking into account that the three huge towers that will support the project are already completed where the project is expected to be opened in 2016. The project will be implemented in the Edinburgh where it will serve the people in the transportation. This study will explore the Queensferry Crossing Bridge Project. In the analysis, the study will explore the overarching description of the project that will comprise of project aims and objectives, parties involved in the project, governance and identification

However, many may be confused on why it was decided that Queensferry Crossing Bridge should be constructed despite the presence of other bridges in the area the Queensferry Crossing Bridge is being constructed. During the construction of the Forth Road Bridge that was constructed in 1960s, the developers and designers did not foresee the fame that the region has captured years later. From this understanding, it is cited that the traffic flow in the Forth Road Bridge is high due to popularity of the highway and being used by thousands of residents in the region on daily basis. The civil engineers in the region found it crucial to construct a stronger and wider bridge that would accommodate the increasing number of traffic and people using the bridge. It is aimed at promoting the safety of the bridge users by addressing the strength concerns that have been raised due to increasing number of bridge consumers. From the assessment of the width of the water flowing in the area where the bridge is being constructed, one could understand that it will shorten the time spent crossing the bridge. For instance, the distance will be shortened from Edinburgh to Dundee or
Have you ever thought about driving over a suspension bridge held up by cables? That’s what the Mackinac Bridge is. With the building of the Mackinac Bridge there has been many positive effects that have come out of it.
This report goes into detail the collapse of the Westgate Bridge, located in Melbourne, Australia. What was meant to be a bridge that joined two sides of the city of Melbourne, lead to Australia’s worst workplace disaster in history, with a death toll of 35. Included in this report is a history of the planning of the bridge, the events that lead to the collapse, as well as the collapse itself and how it happened. Also covered are the ethical issues portrayed by the companies working on the construction of the Westgate Bridge.
The Capilano Suspension Bridge was built in 1889 across the Capilano River by a Scottish engineer named George Grant Mackay in the city of Vancouver. The bridge was initially constructed from hemp ropes and cedar planks, which were later replaced with more durable steel cables in 1903. Over time, the bridge has exchanged ownership several times and has undergone a series of renovations. This is a paper on the Capilano Bridge. Special focus is given to its history, construction, and impact in its locality.
The Victoria Bridge, constructed in the mid-19th-Century in British North America, is a famous Canadian landmark that set the stage for the beginning of the industrialization phase of Canada and more specifically, Montreal. It would eventually “play a vital role in the growth of the city and the country”.
“Chemistry is the study of substances; their properties, structure, and the changes they undergo” (Lower). Chemistry is the study of all the stuff in the world and especially how they change. My experiment deals mostly with the change of substances. Some of the concepts involved in my experiment are Oxidation/Reduction (redox) reactions, electrolysis, pH, and electrical currents. A redox reaction is a reaction in which there is a transfer of electrons from one substance to another. There are two paired parts to a redox reaction: the oxidation and the reduction. The oxidation is the loss of electrons while the reduction is the gain of electrons. They always occur together because one substance has to receive the electrons that another substance is giving up. Electrolysis is a process where electricity goes through a liquid, which causes chemical reactions to occur. pH is the measure of how acidic or basic something is. More exactly, it is, at least indirectly, the number of hydrogen ions there are in a liter of solution. A hydrogen ion is a hydroge...
Following the American Civil War, the use of railroads for trade was booming. The Detroit, Michigan and Windsor Ontario border, separated by the Detroit River, was a center for railroads at the time with the Michigan Central and Great Western railroads operating on their respective sides of the border. In the early 20th century, the railroads used ferries to transport shipments across the river. As production and population grew, so did the shipments of goods, specifically grain. An increasing delay in the supply and demand of agricultural products was hurting the economy for both farmers and consumers. In 1909, a tunnel was constructed to transport trains under the Detroit River but the need for a bridge with mass transportation abilities was still needed. This led to the construction of the Ambassador Bridge in 1929, funded by financier Joseph Bower and engineered and constructed by the heralded Pittsburgh McClintic-Marshall Company. No one could have ever foreseen the societal and economical impact the decision to engineer a bridge would have.
In the first place, the ferry system is outdated and needs to be replaced by a bridge at Scotland Wharf, which would be safer for drivers crossing the James River. The ferry system has been in operation for...
Childe Hassam was an American impressionist born on October 17, 1859 in Dorchester, Massachusetts right outside of Boston (Weinberg & Barker, 2004). Hassam lived until 1935 and during his lifetime he created a plethora of renowned works. One of his famous works, Bridge at Old Lyme, can be found in the Georgia Museum of Art here in Athens. This beautiful oil on canvas landscape was created in 1908. Although this piece is not very large, it caught my eye as soon as I entered that part of the gallery and I was immediately intrigued.
The London Docklands are a particularly unique area of London; the area possesses a rich history as a major seaport, but is also now home to one of London’s largest financial centers. In essence, the London Docklands are a junction where history collides with the present. Within this essay, I will discuss how efforts to conserve the past of the London Docklands conflict with its current development. One the one hand, the Museum of London Docklands (MLD) acts as a prime example of efforts to conserve the area’s rich yet dark history. On the other hand, the development of Canary Wharf, a financial power center, symbolizes the future of the area, with little to no attempts to preserve the Docklands’ history. I will use supplementary sources from
The cause of the Wave Hill Walk-Off had started almost one-hundred years before the protest began. Prior to 1883, the Gurindji people had owned their land for tens of thousands of years and then suddenly, the Colonial Government grants almost 3,000 square kilometers of Gurindji land to explorer and pastoralist Nathaniel Buchanan (Morelli, 2016). The next step of the cause was the Vestey brothers buying the cattle station in the Northern Territory in 1914. As a cruel money-making tactic, the brothers put the Gurindji people to work with a very poor pay rate and terrible work conditions. Between 1914 and 1966 many other events attributed to the cause of the walk-off such as; a report that exposed the working conditions of the Gurindji, the North-Australian
When I first began to read, within the 2nd paragraph I immediately referenced back to the “The Bridge Poem.” Because Lorde too talked about how she has always been defined as being seen as an ‘other’ or seen as ‘inferior,’ and that she seems to always need to “bridge the gap” for other people. The ‘Bridge Poem’ also referenced about how thin the author was spreading herself in order to teach and ‘translate’ for everyone around her, because they were to stubborn or blind to do it themselves. Lorde also took this that she is the one responsible to educate a whole society on a culture that that the majority has labeled as “wrong.”
Monument are created to commemorate a person or event. In order for monuments to effectively pay homage to deep sacrifice, a group or agency must take into consideration; a monument’s location, size, and material.
The interview relates to information presented in the course in the context of the Macro level, organizations and communities. The macro level incorporates planning, implementation, evaluation, termination and follow-up (Kirst-Ashman, & Hull, 2015). There can be numerous tasks associated with making changes to large systems that require cohesive efforts of multiple groups (Kirst-Ashman, & Hull, 2013). In Tiernan’s project the Macro level is evident in working with multiple groups, consisting of her co-workers, city council members, and community developers. The goal was obtained in getting the San Ysidro sidewalk and park projects
The Golden Gate Bridge is a major tourist attraction in San Francisco, California. It is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world and it’s also the top suicide location in the world. The Golden Gate Bridge is a symbol of Northern California. The bridge serves as a means of transportation.
The dominant narrative views the bridge as a legendary destination, however, to the locals, it symbolizes much more than just a view, it represents grief.
