1. According to the readings, there are certain ways to measure and collect data to establish how well schools are performing. These research methods in education are quantitative and qualitative. Both research methods differ in the way the research is being collected. Quantitative research is used to study large groups using numerical data, such as using surveys with scales, structured interviews and observations. Although the issue in this research is that it never gives such a valid in depth overview of an accurate measure, more like a roundabout. In turn being unreliable measure unless looking for a general measure. It uses a deductive analysis, measuring study based upon a general concept or theory using a scale or numbers. Testing it by looking at specific observations. In qualitative research, focuses on the data collected through observation into tables. It uses open ended questionnaires, and unstructured interviews, and case studies. Unlike quantitative research, qualitative helps the examiner better understand the individual and more chance of a truthful detailed answer than a scale of 1-10. In the introduction to the chapter they discussed using surveys for quantitative research. I believe using quantitative instead of qualitative they are not accurate in depicting that student’s academic performance among many other social factors; that come along with each student which weren’t taken into consideration. Social factors like neighborhoods, funding for schools, good teachers, etc. However, perhaps these smaller groups were among wealthy, stable homes and contain family support to help that child further their education at home and that is why the child performed better and not because it was a smaller group size.
