Qualities of a Good Teacher At the age of five, children are required to attend school. At the age of 5, teachers become the most influential person in their life. Because teachers are a big influence in the development of students they should possess many good qualities. A few of those qualities are understanding the reason behind the student’s actions, speaking privately to the student about personal matters, and lastly pushing the student to his greatest potential. To begin, a good quality a teacher needs is to understand the reason his student acts a certain way. By understanding the motives of a student the teacher would have a more productive way to help the student. An example of this quality done in a bad way, is in the essay “Shame” …show more content…
When a teacher speaks about a student’s private matters publicly in front of other students it leads to the embarrassment of the student. The more embarrassed the student the less comfortable that student feels in the classroom. When a student is no longer comfortable in the classroom he is less likely to focus in on classwork work because he is more worried about how the other students are judging him. An example of this quality done badly is in the essay “Shame” by Dick Gregory, when the teacher spoke in front of a classroom of students about him claiming to have a father. She said, “We know you don’t have a daddy.” Even though Richard Gregory not having a father in his family was common knowledge amongst the classroom, it should not have been said as openly. Had she spoke to him privately about knowing that he doesn’t have a father and therefore could not give to the Community Chest he wouldn’t have felt as embarrassed and walked out of the classroom. An example of this quality done properly is from a personal experience. In eighth grade, I had a math teacher who didn’t tolerate students doing anything that was disruptive to everyone’s learning. One day we were learning a difficult algebra problem and this student decided to purposely yell out the wrong answers and because I was sitting next to him and was getting the answers right he started calling me a nerd and a geek. The teacher eventually stepped outside of the classroom and into the hallway with the student to speak to privately to him. A few minutes later the teacher came back into the classroom and the student quietly sat back done in his seat. Class soon resumed and the student remained quiet for the rest of the class. Because the teacher spoke to the student privately it prevented the students from knowing something personal about that student
Teachers help us expand and open our mind by giving us skills throughout students’ early life to help students when they are older. By learning information from teachers, students become better people, in a couple of ways. Besides inquiring knowledge from their teachers, students learn to work with one another, open their mind to other peoples’ thoughts and ideas, respect one another, and learn different techniques for life’s issues.
In a society where kids must go to school up to the collegiate level, teaching is an impactful career choice. Teachers help contour the minds of future leaders of the world. Furthermore, teachers play a crucial role in guiding students to the knowledge, skills, and abilities they need to succeed in life, and teachers lead students to make informed decisions on any topic the meet in the future. As a teacher, a person must relinquish their knowledge onto students. Finally, they must prepare their students for all the obstacles they will face later in life.
When I look back to my young developing stages in life, I always ask myself where would I be today if it wasn’t for my teachers? Teachers are the ones who build our future generations. Preparing children and teens for higher education. Also playing a huge part in shaping children’s lives, enlightening them, and educating them about society and the world around them; the types of things that a parent doesn’t have time for, or just lacks the knowledge of. I think teachers are what help make this world go round.
Successful teachers develop the whole child by making integrated efforts to promote their student’s academic, social and emotional learning. Children need to be aware of themselves and others; make responsible decisions, and be ethical and respectful of the people around them.
For the veteran teacher interview, I interviewed my mother, Christine. She has worked at the Shield Institute for twenty-four years as a Special Education Teacher. As both a mother and a teacher, she has always been a source of inspiration in my life. Her dedication, love for children, and extensive knowledge have persevered throughout her career and served as her strength. This interview was much more informal and comfortable than the first, given the fact that I have a personal relationship with the interviewee. However, that didn’t make the interview any less important or valuable as a source of strength and motivation.
Teachers serve as the guiding force in a student’s life. They are responsible for molding a student’s personality and shaping his/her mental orientation. Teachers deeply impact our lives and direct the course of our future. One cannot deny the influence of teachers in one’s life. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that, till a certain age, out life revolves around our teachers. They are our constant companions, until we grow old enough to come out of their shadow and move ahead on our own.
What is a teacher? A teacher is someone who students rely on for further knowledge and comprehension. Often, a teacher is viewed as a role model towards their students. In many times, teachers can help guide students into a better future. Characteristics like preparation, compassion, having and showing respect to students can make a teacher more effective.
“If you want to make a difference, in the life of our nation, if you want to make the most of your talents and dedication, if you want to make your mark with a legacy that will endure – then join the teaching profession.” (President Barack Obama)
There are many things which make a teacher great and they all can`t be defined. However i`ve always considered several of them essential. In my opinion a good teacher is someonewho first of all creates interest in studying, doesn`t underestimate the children, has equal expectations of siccess from everyone and last but not least likes his job.
Teachers have a large responsibility especially when children are younger and more impressionable. They often look towards the teacher as a role model and authority figure, and because of this they often assume the actions of the teacher to be correct and acceptable. Therefore, teachers try to foster correct consciences in their students by being good examples themselves. When the teaching staff show respect for one another, or when teachers respect each of their students as individuals, they are able to instill in students a mutual respect for one another. For example, during recess, a little third grade girl, Susie pulls her friend's hair because her friend will not share her toy.
What are characteristics of effective teachers? What is a learning style and why is important for teachers to understand their personal learning style and those of their students? There are multiple definitions of what effective teachers are and how their effectiveness is measured. There are several qualities that effective teachers should possess. Matthew 19:14 says “But Jesus said, Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (King James Version). Teachers should ensure that they are doing their best to help their students learn according to each student’s individual needs. Aspiring teachers need to know the characteristics of effective teachers in order to become better teachers themselves. Effective teachers understand their own learning styles, create a community of learning that includes classroom management and parental involvement, use motivation techniques, differentiate instruction, and have a personal Christian educational philosophy.
Every teacher has their strong points as well as weak points. Teaching is very hard work and some of them never grow to be anything better than mediocre. They do the bare minimum and very little over and above the call of duty. There are several ways to become a great teacher. Teachers are truly dedicated workers who put a lot of time and schooling into being able to teach for the rest of their lives.
It is said that teachers teach not only from books, but also from life itself. That in school we learn not only lessons from books, but lessons from the heart and soul as well. Those lessons, the lessons that teach us to understand ourselves and others, are what truly impact our lives. Countless teachers have advised students under their tutelage on various life changing matters. However, there is one teacher who stands prominently in the forefront of my mind as teaching me the most important lessons one could ever hope to learn. Mrs. C was a sixth grade substitute mathematics teacher, who was Russian and as such occasionally fell out of proper English, and she taught me something nonpareil.
I have decided to become a teacher because I love children. I enjoy watching them grow, and I want to make a difference in the lives of my students. As a teacher, I will do everything that I can to ensure that each becomes a productive, successful citizen in life. In order for me to obtain this goal, I will create a loving, positive, respectful, and safe learning environment where each student will be treated equally and be encouraged to do his or her best. Keeping this in mind, there are four elements that I must remember which includes (1) how young children develop, (2) what they should know and be able to do, (3) instructional strategies that I have learned, and (4) my feelings regarding parent involvement.
One good quality a teacher should have is, respect for the students. Each person’s ideas and opinions should be valued and not judged. They should be able to express themselves without feeling insecure. Another good quality is, having high expectations for your students. Each student should be encouraged to do their best and achieve goals that they may have never met before. Another good quality is, I believe a teacher should have is good communication skills. They should keep not only the students informed on what is going on in the class, they should definitely keep the parents informed as well. Teachers need to know how to communicate with all their students because some are at different levels than others.
