One good quality a teacher should have is, respect for the students. Each person’s ideas and opinions should be valued and not judged. They should be able to express themselves without feeling insecure. Another good quality is, having high expectations for your students. Each student should be encouraged to do their best and achieve goals that they may have never met before. Another good quality is, I believe a teacher should have is good communication skills. They should keep not only the students informed on what is going on in the class, they should definitely keep the parents informed as well. Teachers need to know how to communicate with all their students because some are at different levels than others. One quality that would make me a good teacher is, I am good with kids. I believe a teacher needs to be able to care for the children they are teaching. Also, you should be ecstatic about being able to be an influence on their lives. I like working with kids and like to help them understand things they may not know. When I was in Middle School we did a thing called “Study Buddies.” We would go to the classrooms everyday for the last few periods of the day and help kids read and do their homework. Towards little children I am very outgoing and not shy at all. But, when it comes to people my age or older I tend to be less talkative if I feel like I am in a awkward situation or if I do not know the person. At Erie County Community College I am taking a human interactions class to help develop my skills more and make me less insecure about my thoughts. Sometimes I do believe I am not as shy as what I am on some days. I do find myself opening up more since I was younger but I am hoping soon my shy stage will be gone considering I want to become a doctor one
Chapter one of Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals opens with one of the most influential traits of what an effective principal should possess, the communication trait. To be successful in any venue in life, you must be able to communicate with people; this is especially true in the education world. Principals are responsible for communicating with people in all walks of life, parents, students, teacher, administrative office personnel and the general public, as an administrator, you must make each of these individuals feel a sense of trust and belonging while communicating with them. Principals use conversations and gesture to build confidence and open lines of communication for learning and growth.

The movie "October Sky" gives a very positive representation of a teacher. She is a role model, a friend, a source of information, a defender, and a fighter. She is portrayed as compassionate, understanding, and very beneficial in keeping the students directed toward their goals. This would seem to say that teachers need these qualities in order to fully relate to their students. A teacher can not only be there for informational needs, but must also stand behind her students and be prepared to defend their rights to discover themselves.
There are many qualities to an outstanding educator. The most important qualities include experience, the ability to adapt classroom materials to highlight each student's abilities, incorporation of cross-curricular standards, empathy for each individual student, parental involvement, and cooperation amongst other teachers and the administration. All of these qualities also together create a positive learning environment for the students.
Above all else I will ensure that each and every student who passes through my classroom is treated the same. I will show each and every child respect and resolve problems to the best of my ability. I will make a promise of confidence to children know that I am there for them an I am someone they can reach out to at any time. I will protect every student, keeping them from harm. Showing a caring nature and enthusiasm in my classroom is very important to me. I will make each assignment challenging, yet not too difficult for them to complete. I will involve families as much as possible and when necessary. All rules will apply to everyone. I will show moral courage and intellectual integrity. My work will be based on knowledge of how children learn and develop. The bond between child and family will be made a priority. I promise my students an adventurous, stimulating, caring and safe environment. I will protect each child and report any suspected abuse. Lastly, I will base all of my relationships with children, family, peers, colleagues, and community on respect and trust. I think this is what it will take to make me the best teacher I can possibly
No two teachers are alike, each of us has to work to find our own style, but it seems that there are some characteristics that all effective teachers share while ineffective teachers tend to repeatedly make the same mistakes. This is not a black or white situation, you are not labeled as effective or ineffective and then written off until you make a big change; there is a spectrum of effectiveness. There are quite a few things that have to be considered when thinking about important qualities of outstanding educators. A teacher’s main goal is to help their students learn. However, a teacher that only does this, hardly qualifies to outstanding, let alone average. There is an old quote that states, “People won't care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Though, it is a bit cliché, it is absolutely true. For example, I have memories of being in school and working harder for teachers that really seemed to care about me and how I performed in their class.

Being a teacher is much more than instructing through a set curriculum. Being a teacher requires patience, commitment, understanding, and compassion on all levels. It is expected of teachers to go the extra mile for every student. Being a teacher is not always easy because challenges arise. Challenges such as misbehavior, conflicting philosophies, and emotional attachment to students. Yet, teaching is also a job full of rewards. Remember those times back in fourth grade when your report card may have seemed stressful where you lived quite happily and didn’t have too many cares. I especially remember my teacher.
