I have chosen to pursue a career in law enforcement for many reasons. One of the main reasons is because I believe it's extremely rewarding to have a chance every single day to keep the community and people safe. I also think it's extremely rewarding to have a chance to possibly make some differences for the better in people's lives from a young kid that is making some wrong choices to an adult that has been through alot and makes poor decisions in his or her life. I understand that not many adults would listen to advice but it's the fact that I actually have an opportunity to help them and I wouldn't be able to do that in most career choices. Another huge reason why I chose to pursue a career in law enforcement is the proud facter. Being …show more content…
A K9 officer is a very interesting career. In my opinion the biggest pro is how rewarding it is. Being around the community everyday and helping make sure the crime gets off the street is so important. From the drugs to helping find a missing person, it's all so rewarding because in different ways doing this really makes you feel good about what you are doing everyday and knowing y9our are making a difference in the world. The excitement of the job is unreal. You get to search and find hidden things with your best friend every single day. I love dogs and know a lot of people do as well and saying how cool it would be to train one to be your partner in crime is an understatement. The special bond that is built is the most unreal thing to see, and seeing that from a personal perspective was amazing and it never left my mind. The career not only has excitement and is rewarding, but it also has great benefits and good pay. As it should be considering every law enforcement personnel are risking their lives every single day. Being able to retire at a younger age is definitely an option being in law enforcement. After naming a few pros, here are some cons if the job. Loads and loads of paperwork each day. The officer has to write a lot of paperwork each day about his job and then you double that when there is a case that they happen to search and find something illegal. Not many people like paperwork so it's not ideal for everyone. Working long shifts and random shifts are some cons. Working holidays and weekends is mandatory because crime doesn't just stop on holidays. Being a K9 officer isn't that easy to get into. to be a K9 officer you have to have at least two to four years in the field of law enforcement to even consider applying. There aren't many cons to this career in my opinion, but i think one con that everyone would agree on is how risky and dangerous this career can be. as a K9
The criminal justice field is made up of many facets. The court system includes many professions which include lawyers, judges, police officers and polygraph examiners. The federal justice system has numerous professions as well. Two highly recognizable organizations in the government criminal justice system are the CIA and the FBI. Two careers of interest worth future investigation are a polygraph examiner and a special agent in the FBI.
I would like to be a police community support officer because I want to further my opportunities to work for a police department and support the communities in which I live. I feel I can serve my community in a positive manner with the upmost respect and honor. I hope I will be able to gain valuable experience that will help me in my future, both as an individual and as a professional. This opportunity will help give me an insight to the internal workings for the town of Plainfield and the opportunity to learn more about the individuals that live within the community. I have a passion to help other when they are in need, that is a reason why I want to pursue a career in law enforcement.
What is complacency? Well as defined by Merriam-Webster it is “self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies”. In typical occupations complacency doesn’t really have any big consciences, some people at their job can be complacent till they retire and never have any issues at all. But when you become complacent in Law Enforcement there could be very serious and irreversible consciences like losing your own life or worse an innocent person’s life that you swore to protect. Complacency comes along after you do something over and over again and become good at it that you get to confortable in that situation but in law enforcement nothing is routine. You can do one hindered great car stops with no issue and get very comfortable doing the stops that you forget
Gaining an in-depth knowledge of the criminal justice system, throughout my Bachelors program has been exciting as much as an eye opener. Some of the subjects were ones that I did not expect. There were also, ones that had no idea how ignorant I was on the subject.
Today our world is filled with crime. The people committing these crimes must have a consequence for their illegal actions. The system in place to keeping everything fair and safe is called the criminal justice system. This was put in place to ensure there is fairness and justice served to people who break the laws set up by the government.
The Law Enforcement Profession Abstract In order to understand comptemporary law enforcemment, we should recognize the conditions that impact our profession. It is agreed upon by many scholars that major changes in law enforcement occur every five years. Law enforcement is a career that is both violent and rewarding in many capacities. Justice needs to be served in law enforcement and they have a responsibility to uphold the law and serve the people in the community. Law enforcement is crucial in the world today as a global realm as life continues to be more complex and law enforcement struggles to combat many aspects of crime. In order to combat these problems and have a positive future in the criminal justice system, everyone must work together on a bigger scale.
This was my first stop on the career fair for the day. I was walking around the upper level looking at all the businesses and organizations present. Then my eye was caught by the FBI. The 3 letters everyone knows, this really sparked my interest. I love watching shows about the FBI and investigative television. Since my major is in political science I figured that maybe they would need lawyers or something or that sort in the FBI, so I decided to talk to them.
The schools had previously been underfunded and not capable of handling more students that what they were originally built to hold. Increased funding for law enforcement recruitment also means more available jobs. If law enforcement has the money to recruit more members than there will be more law enforcement officers. These new officers will possibly have better training than what was previously provided when there were not enough funds.
All throughout highschool I was part of various teams. Whether it be for sports or school, I learned at a young age how to work alongside my peers effectively. In addition, I joined a police explorers post in high school and was able to learn what it was like to be a police officer and ensured myself that this was the career I wanted to have. Following high school, I knew that I wanted to attend a University where I would get a more advanced educational background while surrounding myself in a much more diverse community. In addition, I started working for the UW Oshkosh Police Department the first semester I got to UW Oshkosh. This department taught me what it was like to work in this setting as well as giving me a wide range of training and experiences preparing me for the job. Through working patrol, and eventually dispatching, I developed many skills. Advancing my abilities to communicate with people and getting more advanced at problem solving are just two of these skills that make me very qualified for this
Imagine pulling into your driveway and seeing your neighbor’s house surrounded by police, flashing lights, and caution tape with bodies covered in white sheet on the lawn. It was a drive by shooting. Next, a van pulls up and a Criminal Investigator steps out and starts assessing the crime scene. She begins taking photos, marking shell casings, packaging evidence, documenting tire treads on the pavement and inspecting and collecting DNA evidence from the bodies. Criminal Investigators are highly trained college graduates that are a vital part of bringing criminals to justice.
My grandfather was a police officer when he was younger; he would tell us stories of he and his buddies on motorcycle patrol and the life of a cop. The stories that he told were so interesting, that ever since, I wanted to have a career in law enforcement. After I graduated from high school, I enrolled in the law enforcement program at Spokane Community College where I planned to fulfill my dream of becoming a cop. I started the law enforcement classes at the college and came to the conclusion that law enforcement was not the career for me.
Having a dream job must be that certain job that you have always reached for. It is that job that you promise you would do anything to have. I am currently one of the Calumet City Swat Team members. Being an important part of the community is something great to have achieved, especially being a part of the law enforcement. There are plenty of benefits that come with being in the Swat along with seeing children smile in a safe and productive environment. Climbing the ranks takes time and leads to challenging positions that are difficult to adjust too. Another thing difficult to adjust too is an automatic rifle. Being a Swat member, I am armed and must be trained for special types of missions. While most American’s would view law enforcement as a division that is here to punish them, many officers, like myself, know that we are here day in and day out to protect and serve the people of America.
Becoming a Police Officer has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. Growing up I remember always wanting to see what was going on when lights and sirens raced past my house. As I grew up I realized how strong my desire to help others and be able to do something my family and I could be proud of. My desire from a very young age, to become a Police Officer, has helped shape me to the person I am now.
Criminology is an interesting and unique career. It may not be a well-known occupation for the average teenager, but the career is extremely intriguing. I was raised knowing more things than most children do. I spent countless times eavesdropping whenever my dad was talking to my mom about the cases he was working on. Some point along the way I decided I wanted to know why these people did the things they do. Criminology seemed like the best occupation for me.
