Criminology is an interesting and unique career. It may not be a well-known occupation for the average teenager, but the career is extremely intriguing. I was raised knowing more things than most children do. I spent countless times eavesdropping whenever my dad was talking to my mom about the cases he was working on. Some point along the way I decided I wanted to know why these people did the things they do. Criminology seemed like the best occupation for me.
There are many different aspect and factors to criminologists. One aspect is that “they consider psychological and social concerns, research data about crimes and arrests and study the background of the criminal to determine if any biological situations led him or her to commit the crime” (Criminologist). This means that criminologists must be able to used critical thinking and have a great eye to detail. It is important for them to be able to go through many different scenarios that could possibly happen. If they don’t, it could mean risking the lives of future victims, themselves, and even possibly people that are close to them. Criminologists also publish their data and have lectures, this means they also need to have great people skills and be able to talk to a large number of people.
The education process is slightly tedious. Most criminologists major in criminology, psychology, and sociology. It is important for criminologists to be able to read and understand a person’s mind. Psychology and sociology is a great major that they can do because it will make things easier for them. Some other things they can major in are criminal justice and history. These majors are good choices for criminologist is because they need to know the basic law before they can study and help...

That’s it, police officer. I grew up watching crime movies and cop shows, but knew that that was never reality. I started getting interested in court cases and the mind of a serial killer. Why do they do it, was always my question. I searched for more answers and found that the behavior plays an important role.
Criminology is the scientific study of the causes and prevention of crimes. Criminology also uses a vast amount of theories to explain peoples’ actions, mental state, and their drive for committing crimes. Some crimes have monetary benefits, while other crime are committed in revenge or in spite of another, which would be called crimes of passion. Because it can be sometime difficult to understand why certain crime are committed, the only thing we can do is use theories to better decipher thoughts, morals, and reasons behind committing crimes.

Within the Criminal Justice System there is diverse career opportunities to choose from. The career I am interested in being is a Criminal Profiler with the FBI National Center for Analysis of Violent Crime. I am interested in this job because it seems to be an intense job to do. A criminal profiler's job is to create a psychological profile of a criminal suspect. Creating one of these profiles can be used to help catch the suspect. This is done by examining evidence from the crime, interviewing witnesses and victims, and analyzing crime scenes. Information obtained from these investigations can then be used to help the profiler determine a pattern of criminal behavior. Most of the time the information that was collected can be used to find out more about the suspect.
Criminal justice is one of the most important majors one can study due to the necessity to keep the streets safe and clean. From street cops, to state troopers all the way to criminal psychologists the criminal justice system is a very important part of modern society as it keeps us safe from murders, rapists and various other criminals. The street cops are the ones that are out on our streets protecting every citizen. Criminologists also look at social factors and how they can influence crime. Rates of crime can be linked into social policies and this is what criminologists set out to identify. They’d do this by looking at social, political or economic factors that might make different types of crime more prevalent in certain areas. This can affect safe housing and education of people who live in these areas. This is very comparable to the idea from a social policy point of view that living in social housing also has detrimental effects on education attainment. Baldwin (1979) states that providing social housing and policies implemented by local authorities effected the distribution of crime in the UK. Baldwin and Bottoms (1976) conducted a study in Sheffield to try and find out why some housing estates are affected more by criminal activity. It was soon discovered that reputation on top of public housing policies were a major factor in crime distribution on certain estates. Residents often came and went but they almost felt like they had a duty to keep the reputation of the area alive. Criminologists have come to view some social problems as criminal justice problems. When certain areas look different or aren’t as well maintained as others they begin to develop social repercussions. Repercussions such as making it harder for the people who come from these areas to find employment or, even hinder moving into other social
I have always taken an interest in Criminal Justice and crime prevention ever since middle school and I set out to make my career goal to become a Criminal Justice professional. It will also enable me to become a more competent working professional and encourage me to advance towards the doctoral program.

Secondly, crime analysis is not just about immediate patterns and series: analysts also look at the long-term problems Annual Crime Report that every police department faces. Also, crime analysts know how to extract data from records systems, ask questions of it, and turn it into useful information. Another primary way is through intelligence, which, describes special information about criminals and criminal organizations: their goals, their activities, their chains of command, how money and goods flow through them, what they’re planning, and so on. Finally, crime analysts make you and your agency look good to the public and to local government officials ("What Crime Analysts Do."). Quote from Chief Tom Casady, of the Lincoln Police

Criminology centers its attention on the criminal as a person, his behavior, and what has led him or her to a life of crime. Criminology seeks to understand the criminals' genetic makeup, to learn whether there is an inherited tendency to crime. It also takes into consideration such issues as the individuals socioeconomic background, family background, educational opportunities, and childhood associations.
