What is the purpose of college? Some of us see the purpose of going to college for growth as a person, others believe college is meant for potential careers after earning a college degree. People with a high school education have jobs with decent benefits, while someone with a college education has access to higher careers with greater salaries and better rewards. The importance of college is the significant amount of opportunities accessible for college graduates. I believe college is a place to gain knowledge and skill because it will lead to a successful career.
Not only are you getting a college degree but also earning a great benefits to be able to depend on. According to data from Higher Education: Not What It Used to Be, “Moreover college graduates, on average, still earn far more and receive better benefits than those who do not have a degree.” (The Economist 685). For the most part, jobs that require further education provide better benefits and greater perks. Delivering health care, vacations and retirement. High school level jobs don't usually offer these types of benefits. Rewards like these are key to life because it provides a long term stability. College grads don't want a job that only pays their bills, they want a career that will make them feel more satisfied. As stated by Scott Carlson “The college graduates in the study also said they were more satisfied with their jobs because of their degrees...” (Carlson). Higher education helps people expand their knowledge in fields for future employment. Because a college graduate is able to study a topic that truly interests them. Also, a college graduate is less likely to suffer unemployment. A graduate is more likely to love their job. All the great benefits that comes with a college degree leads to better job
