I will be splitting the students up into three equal groups. Each team will be given 10 note card. On one side of the notecard (the plane side), students will write down one of their vocabulary words. On the revered sided, the students will write the meaning of the vocabulary word. Once the students have completed, their group will form 2 circle. One circle will be formed inside another. The students in the inner circle will have the two notecards. The students on the outside will have zero. The students in the inside circle will read the word to the students across from them. Using the wait time strategy, they will wait for the student to provide them with the answer. If the answer is correct, the students will read the second. If they get that one write as well the student will wait for me to tell them to rotate to their next peer. If the student gets it incorrect, they must switch places with the students in the inner circle. This process will continue until the activity is complete.

Math is a complex subject to understand. I want to provide students with as much peer discussion and hands-on activities time. This will allow students to problem solve, explore different outcomes and learn from each other. Learning the vocabulary word will help students explain their concerns, unclarified issues and help them to

explain the question and answer better. Building student’s math vocabulary words will help them to have a clear discussion and a more in-depth conversation about the material. This will help students to create a better understanding and enhance their knowledge of the material. Forms Knowing how important it is for students to understand their math terms, I will have them complete a formative assessment.
This assignment will show both the student and I if the understand the math teems. It will measure how well the student understands the math terms. This information will help me to determine if I need to go back over certain words, or if I can continue on with my lesson plan without overwhelming or losing students. The assignment will consist of the student’s defining the vocabulary word and drawing a picture for some questions and on other questions, using the meaning to determine a word and draw a picture of the
word. Materials 60 assignment hand-outs (30 formative and 30 summative) 30 notecards (vocabulary game) Equipment White Board White Board Markers - Black (Write out the equation or a statement.) - Red (Point out keywords and numbers that will help to solve the problem.) - Blue (Solve the problem.) Technology Projector - The projector will be used to help me to enlarge my work or the problem when I discuss the proper operations on how to solve the equation or a statement. This will allow students in the back of the classroom to be able to see my work and the step I took when complete the different problems. It will help me to keep all my students engaged in the material. - For below average students, it will allow them to see the material clearly. It will allow them to write down each step that I take. - For my at grade level students, It will allow me to get them to answer questions regarding the materials. - For my above average students, it will allow me to get them to take me through the steps in completing the assignment. Having a projector and a whiteboard allows me to pick on students who believe they have mastered the material. They are welcomed to come up to the board and talk students through a problem. This will allow other students to see their thought process to clarify and misconceptions any student may have. Projector markers - Black (Write out the equation or a statement.) - Red (Point out keywords and numbers that will help to solve the problem.) - Blue (Solve the problem.)
This task should be fun and interesting for the students. It is my hope that this activity proves to be successful for my students and helps them to understand the necessary learning objectives set forth.
Overall, this college would provide a good education with three of my most beloved and favoured subjects for my career goals/interest. So, my keen interests are my three picked courses that have the grade requirements that I am available to overcome and exceed. Also, this college is very close to my location (7 Hadley Croft, B66 1DP) and provides a bus service in Oldbury and West Bromwich, which is a perfect combination to travel to this college. Overall, there won’t be any worry or difficulty of reaching Halesowen College thus this place forms to be an excellent place for me to continue my education for Year 12 and Year 13.
Growing up it was my older sister, brother, and my twin with a single mother. My brother played basketball I wanted to be like him so I played to. I played basketball from second grade to my junior year, that's when I decided to join the Air Force. When I was little all I wanted to be was a surgeon, but that’s just a dream. Watching Grey’s Anatomy made me want to be a surgeon even more, but when my older brother joined the Air Force my freshman year I saw all the thing he was able to do and how much fun he was having doing something that he likes. I plan on going to college for two years to get my associates degree so when I join, I can go in with higher rank.
Open your digital notebook and describe your strategy and the reading skills you will use to succeed in this lesson.
Students will use vocabulary builders to help them become familiar with new vocabulary related to the topics being covered in the Chemistry
When the teacher was giving instruction to the students she would point to one of the charts to help students understand and practices their vocabulary. The teacher was able to accommodate students by drawing pictures and modeling students when she was explain. For example one of the words on the vocabulary chart was (pilgrims) the teacher defined the word first with a picture to help students understand and activate their knowledge. Then she would write the definition and would use echo reading to help students develop
All children learn differently and teachers, especially those who teach mathematics, have to accommodate all children’s different capacities for learning information. When teaching mathematics, a teacher has to be able to use various methods of presenting the information in order to help the students understand the concepts they are being taught. Most teachers in the past have taught mathematics through procedural lessons. Procedural lessons consist of having the students work with a concept over and over again until it is memorized. For example, children could be given homework assignments with the equation three times five over and over again until that equation is memorized.
To accomplish vocabulary development, before reading the teacher needs to instruct their students on any prerequisites that they need to understand to interpret the text appropriately. This means the teacher has to pull out the most important words as well as those that may be too difficult for the stud...
Breaking down tasks into smaller, easier steps can be an effective way to teach a classroom of students with a variety of skills and needs. In breaking down the learning process, it allows students to learn at equal pace. This technique can also act as a helpful method for the teacher to analyze and understand the varying needs of the students in the classroom. When teaching or introducing a new math lesson, a teacher might first use the most basic aspects of the lesson to begin the teaching process (i.e. teach stu...
Using literacy strategies in the mathematics classroom leads to successful students. “The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM, 1989) define mathematical literacy as an “individual's ability to explore, to conjecture, and to reason logically, as well as to use a variety of mathematical methods effectively to solve problems." Exploring, making conjectures, and being able to reason logically, all stem from the early roots of literacy. Authors Matthews and Rainer (2001) discusses how teachers have questioned the system of incorporating literacy with mathematics in the last couple of years. It started from the need to develop a specific framework, which combines both literacy and mathematics together. Research was conducted through
Mathematics teachers teach their students a wide range of content strands – geometry, algebra, statistics, and trigonometry – while also teaching their students mathematical skills – logical thinking, formal process, numerical reasoning, and problem solving. In teaching my students, I need to aspire to Skemp’s (1976) description of a “relational understanding” of mathematics (p. 4). Skemp describes two types of understanding: relational understanding and instrumental understanding. In an instrumental understanding, students know how to follow steps and sequential procedures without a true understanding of the mathematical reasons for the processe...
This study "Students Difficulties in Solving Word Problems in Mathematics" is determined necessary for the teachers, students, and future researchers.
A somewhat underused strategy for teaching mathematics is that of guided discovery. With this strategy, the student arrives at an understanding of a new mathematical concept on his or her own. An activity is given in which "students sequentially uncover layers of mathematical information one step at a time and learn new mathematics" (Gerver & Sgroi, 2003). This way, instead of simply being told the procedure for solving a problem, the student can develop the steps mainly on his own with only a little guidance from the teacher.
Throughout out this semester, I’ve had the opportunity to gain a better understanding when it comes to teaching Mathematics in the classroom. During the course of this semester, EDEL 440 has showed my classmates and myself the appropriate ways mathematics can be taught in an elementary classroom and how the students in the classroom may retrieve the information. During my years of school, mathematics has been my favorite subject. Over the years, math has challenged me on so many different levels. Having the opportunity to see the appropriate ways math should be taught in an Elementary classroom has giving me a
In microteaching session, our lesson is being implemented with the foundation of learning is fun, meaningful and purposeful, which is one of the pedagogical principles in teaching. Undoubtedly, lesson planning is the first step that allows teacher to prepare the activity that could develop pupils’ ability. As the newly implemented KSSR syllabus promotes, HOTS has been put under the spotlight in education field. Writing, which largely involves metacognitive thinking skills, should be promoted in order to cultivate HOTS in younger generation. Thus, teacher should diversify the varieties of activities in order to make sure that pupils’ endowment is fully cultivated and their interest in the lesson is maintained. According to Champkins (2003), the average attention span of a primary school pupil can be calculated using the rule of chronological age + I (minute). This is an approximation of the period where pupils are able to concentrate in an activity. Subsequently, teacher should make sure that the lesson is learner-centred and activities planned are engaging, appropriate and suitable for pupils to enjoy the learning process. As the target group of pupils is Year 4, we have tried to attract pupils’ attention through creating suspense and asked pupils to predict the following activity. By doing this, we hope that we will be able to arouse the curiosity of pupils on the topic. In the lesson plan, we have also included group work. According to Gorgon (2008), group work is effective in developing pupils’ initiative to think, contribute to the group, share and evaluate information as well as promoting pupils’ sense of cooperation. From this, pupils will not be only improving their communication skill, but they are also being provided with an opportunity to develop collaborative skills as a real life scenario is provided for pupils to interact with their partner and pupils in the process of
