The writer of this Psalm was trying to create a sense of strength and fearlessness that only comes from the Lord. He is trying to say that with the Lord in your heart you have nothing to fear from this life. With complete and total trust in Him we have nothing to fear. It is fear in our lives that keeps us from accomplishing or even trying to accomplish many things in our lives. With God completely in our hearts we should not have any fear because he will lead us into the right direction. Strength in our lives comes from opening our hearts to Him and we shall have nothing to fear from our enemies that will step up to try and defeat us. Fear can be paralyzing. It is this fear that the author is trying to show us we shouldn't have due to the Lord being our light and salvation. No matter what we may come across in this world we should go into it with the utmost confidence for the Lord is there to lead us in the right direction. Through Him our confidence will show and the path will be opened for us to follow. The author is trying to show that confidence comes from the Lord and with this knowledge we should not fear anyone or anything that may stand in our path.

In theory this Psalm is exactly how I would like to live my life. I would like to get up every morning and have the ability to go throughout my day without having all of the fears I come across in my daily life. How am I supposed to just let all of my fears go when I can see them all around me in my life? Is the Lord really going to keep me safe from those who are opposing me in my endeavors? The answer seems so obvious when just looking at the questions. Of course he is going to keep me safe, but actually applying this Psalm to my daily life is harder than ...

The author in this Psalm is looking at fear and how we should be able to overcome it with our faith in the Lord. He believes that we have nothing to fear if we let ourselves live in the house of the Lord. He sees fear as something that we all have but shouldn't have. This Psalm is his way of explaining how he tries to deal with the fear that he has in his own life. He is trying to look at fear as something that anyone can overcome if they are confident in the Lord. He is trying to give himself some confidence in the fact that although he is scared he shouldn't be because the Lord will hold him high above his enemies.
