Technology of Today: Pros and Cons Technology surrounds almost everyone in today 's modern society. Technology is constantly changing, and advancing to make our everyday lives somewhat easier. Throughout history, people have looked for better ways to meet their needs and satisfy expectations. Technology has helped people out in many ways, such as: healthcare, education, jobs, and online shopping. Almost all goods and services rely on technology. Although technology has tons of upsides to it, it also has several downsides. Starting with a positive side of technology, I think the most important is having the ability to connect us to the world around us. Cell phones are a huge part of this. Everything we could possibly need is in the palm …show more content…
“28% of all car accidents are caused by people distracted by cell phones. The 2006 University of Utah did a study on this called “A Comparison of the Cell Phone Driver, and The Drunk Driver”, which showed that people who talk on the phone while driving are as impaired as drivers with a blood alcohol level of 0.08%.” We see more and more accidents involving teens who had been texting, and driving. It’s so easy to get distracted by these small devices, and we don’t realize how dangerous this can really be. I catch myself on a daily glancing down at my phone while behind the wheel, and not even realizing it until I have to slam my breaks so I don 't hit the person in front of me. It happens to all of us. We as people, really need to realize the dangerous effects of texting while driving, and also realize that whatever it may be can wait. Wait until you have completely stopped, or reached your destination before grabbing up the cell phone. It will save yourself, and it will also help protect other drivers around you. Some more fascinating health risks related to cell phones is the risks of cancer, and others also believe that over-using cell phones can lead to high blood pressure and
According to Stephanie Hanes in the essay “Texting While Driving Is as Dangerous as Drunk Driving,” a driver on a phone and those talking on a phone are four times likely to crash. This statistic shows how dangerous using the phone or even texting is while driving. As technology has increased, so has the use of cellphone. Distracted driving has caused an increase in car fatalities and disasters. However, distracted driving can be prevented if drivers take precautions, but no matter what we do, trouble will always be spelling on the road.
In today's world, technology is constantly changing from a new paperclip to an improvement in hospital machinery. Technology lets people improve the way they live so that they can preserve their own personal energy and focus on the really important factors in life. Some people focus their energy on making new innovations to improve transportation and the health of people that may save lives and some people focus on making new designs of packaging CDS. Technology is significant in everyone's life because it rapidly changes what is in the market. But, some new innovations of technology are ridiculous because they serve no purpose in helping mankind.
Texting while driving has resulted in an epidemic that has been a problem for years. It has become more common among teenage drivers since many of them have cell phones. A study has shown that the most common cause of “car crashes have involved using a cell phone in some way whether its texting or talking to reaching a phone while it’s ringing” (Raja). If you text and drive you are automatically 23 times more likely to get into a crash, according to the (National Highway Safety Association). It’s not just teenagers that do it, but it’s also adults as well. The adults think that since they have more experience behind the wheel it won’t happen to them, but they are at the risk. Have you looked at your cell phone because you got a call or text?
Texting while driving is a widespread epidemic in the United States that has unfavorable effects on our society.“Driving while texting is the standard wording used for traffic violations” (Bernstein). It causes many people to be distracted which can lead to accidents. “Eighty-nine percent of people own a cell phone” (Gardner). That is a plethora of people that are at risk of texting while driving. Also, texting has increased by ten times in three years(Bernstein). “The risk of a crash for those who are texting is twenty-three point two times greater than those who are not” (Gardner).Driving drunk only makes a person seven times more likely to be in a crash (Bernstein). This means texting while driving is three times more dangerous than driving intoxicated. One in five drivers admits to texting while driving(Gardner). This shows that that texting while driving is a widespread epidemic. When a survey asked teenagers whether they text and drive,“seventy five percent of teens admitted to texting while driving” (7).Distracted driving causes seventy-eight percent of car crashes(Bernstein). “No distraction causes as high of a risk of an accident as texting while driving” (Gardner). Also with these statistics, it is not hard to understand why accidents in teenagers that are driving have risen. The Bluetooth capability in cars gives a driver a hands-free way to talk on the phone, but is still not completely safe (8). Also, only 1 out of 3 US cars sold in 2009 had this feature. New systems are being developed that will use Bluetooth as well a global positioning technology to allow parents to monitor cell phone use and texting while driving (10).
Today, we are surrounded by all forms of modern technology. From the T.V. up to the phone, from our very own computers to the appliances we usually used. All these technologies contributed a lot in our daily necessities. These helps work even faster, and who don’t want things to be done fast and easy, right? Technologies nowadays also helps develop human capabilities and explore boundless opportunities.
Not only does it put the driver of the car in danger, but it also puts the passengers and the surrounding cars at risk. Using a cell phone while driving has been proven to be just as dangerous as driving under the influence. At any given moment during the day, around 800,000 people are driving cars while using a hand-held device, which unfortunately puts everyone else at risk of a car crash. In the recent year, 21% of fatal car crashes involved the use of a cellular device (Prof. David J. Hanson, 1997-2015). Unfortunately, humans, especially teenagers, cannot put down their cell phones while they drive due to the many notifications they receive. They are addicted. This points back to how the cell phones are affecting the mental health of humans. In 2007, Bailey Goodman, a seventeen-year-old, was killed along with four of her friends in a car accident. Goodman
First and foremost, the risk of using a phone while driving is a big chance of an accident more than what the people think. According to the Harvard study “Texting while driving and other forms of distracted driving are responsible for more than 1 million crashes, 400,000 injuries, and 3,000 deaths in the U.S. each year—and those numbers are likely to in...
Technology is apart of our everyday lives, an integral part of medicine, data processing, education and communication. Technology is impacting the way society is structured, interacts and grows. Technology is drastically changing our social roles in society, understanding technology’s impact on social construction and it’s affects on our everyday lives is crucial in identifying priorities. As well as how we disseminate resources such as education and wealth. Technologies are training our mindsets and psychological development.
From the invention of the cotton gin that spurred the industrial revolution to the invention of the computer that spurred communication, technology is thought to have helped mankind throughout the ages by making things faster, more accessible, and easier to handle. Although many kinds of technologies are relatively new and the consequences not yet know, the pros far outweigh the cons. For example, genetically modified organisms are a great way to increase the global food supply and even have the potential of curing world hunger. However, the consequences of consuming genetically modified foods are not yet known since the technology is so new. Seemingly the best inventions that sewed the twentieth century with the twenty-first century is the invention of computers and phones with greater capability, which rapidly increased communication. One downfall of this newfound mode of communication is how the English language is changing due to a simplified way that people choose to communicate through these devices. Although technology increases the ease that one can communicate, it has evolved into a new language, through different means of communication like text messaging and blogging.
Technology is the biggest tool for everything in this day and age, anything from work, knowledge and productivity, to health and entertainment, it is virtually everywhere with almost everything depending on it now. Due to it being so vast and so diverse to help us in all these good ways it could also be a double edged sword. The same tool to help us all develop could be the same one to take our freedom and or to bring society down.
Technology has a largely significant impact on our everyday lives. The invention of the computer in the 20th century was an unequivocal catalyst for the progression of technology. Technology has enabled us to produce mobile phones which in turn have allowed us to communicate worldwide with the greatest of ease. Technology has become an impressive subliminal power, even in its simplest form it is being used 100s of times in every common household. We, as human beings, have become so reliant on technology that it’s hard to imagine life before or without it.
The technological advancements made in the world are very impressive. Not only have devices such as computers and phones been invented, but they continue to get better. One of the questions currently being asked, however, is if technology has had a positive or negative impact on people's lives. While many argue that technology has weakened human interactions, it has positively affected people's lives because it provides easy access to information, saves money, and improves communication. One of the ways technology has positively affected people's lives is how it has provided quick and easy access to information.
Technology is used so much these days. No matter where you are it always seems that technology is somewhere around. It’s also used for so many things. To connect with friends and family, meet new people, amazing pictures, the ability to share what you choose with people, and so many studies have concluded that technology is beneficial. Also the instant knowledge that people have the opportunity to access every day.
Texting and driving is a terrible idea because it can cause serious injury or death. Texting and driving causes 3,280 injuries per year in America alone. Studies show that being on your phone while driving automatically increases your chance of being in an accident by 23%. Even though this statistic has been decreasing over the years, it shows the second you get on your phone, you are likely to endanger yourself on the road. Even though most Americans are aware that texting and driving is unacceptable, they still are active on their phone. It only takes about five to ten seconds being distracted to get you into an accident and yet 660,000 people still
Technology has changed modern society drastically, both positively and negatively. Technology has influenced every aspect of our life, making it simpler but not necessarily better. Albert Einstein was concerned about the advancement of technology. "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction."1 Undoubtedly, what has changed the most are communication, the spread of information, and how business is practiced. Consequently, practically everyone knows how to use a computer, connect to the Internet, or use a smartphone. This is demonstrated by the way the Internet is used daily by millions of people to communicate, to sell, advertise, retrieve, and share information. Thanks to the Internet, information from anywhere in the world is at our fingertips. As a result, the advancement of technology has changed our life in many ways including; sharing of information, communication, business, education, social interaction, simplifying everyday tasks, replacing basic skills and jobs.
