Today, many teenagers work hard to obtain their license starting at age 15 by getting their permit. Many parents encourage their children to get their license and gain these privileges, however some encourage their kids to wait and many states agree. Driving age is commonly set at sixteen, but because of safety concerns, the idea of raising the driving age to eighteen is currently posed by state legislation. Increasing the driving age to eighteen is a smart decision because teenagers are seen as irresponsible, they are more likely to get into accidents, and teens can become easily distracted. While being a teenager, physical and mental development occur. During this time of mental development, the introduction of new emotions, habits, problems
I. Introduction A. Should 16 year old teenagers be able to drive? B. “Those who favor raising the driving age say that statistics show teenagers are more likely to get into accidents than adults. What they don't say is that statistics also show that men of all ages are 77 percent more likely to kill someone while driving than women.
...year, raising the minimum driving age to 16 seems hopeful in making safer roads for society. In doing so we all should strongly encourage our teenage drivers to be more mature, to pay more attention, to be more confident in their driving, and to not think that they are so invincible to accidents.
For years fiery debates whether the driving age for teens should be sixteen or eighteen captured the nation. Sixteen year-olds have a legitimate argument for keeping the age where it stands, but statistics show that sixteen year olds are not responsible enough to drive, and that more practice is needed before anyone should get a driver’s license. However, from the looks of it, it seems that legislation is going to make the legal driving age eighteen.
The driving age should stay at 16. Although, not many people think that it should stay at 16, but instead that it should increase. This should not happen because certain responsibilities are given to an 16 year old that involves a car. Changing the driving age to a higher age, could infect a lot of things. Some of them have jobs, younger siblings, or even disabled parents. If we raise the driving age, then who would be able to drive around the teen’s disable parent if no one else is able too. The legal driving age should stay at 16.
Driving is something people do everyday. Although many people do it well, some do not, that being said the legal age to drive should be raised to twenty one years of age. The driving age should be raised because teens at the ages of fourteen through twenty should not be behind the wheel for the simple fact that they are just too young and too inexperienced to drive, also someone of that age can get more distracted than a person who is twenty-one or older and has had some time to mature and become responsible enough to operate a motor vehicle. “In the United States, 16–19-year-olds have the highest incidence of motor vehicle deaths among licensed drivers and motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15–20-year-olds.” (Haggerty
This should not even be a question if the driving age should be the driving age should be raised to 18; that can be answered easily , YES!!! Alarmed by the car accidents involving teeagers , a number of states are considering raising the age for getting a driver's license. On december ,8 , 2005 four teenage boys from atlanta went out for a night dive and had a terrible accident. The state government should raise the driving age from 16 to 18 because teens under the age of 18 are at a high risk for accidents and are easily distracted while driving
... middle of paper ... ... Even though teen drivers make up a small percentage of the population, the most fatal crashes are the result of one behind the wheel; therefore the legal driving age needs to be raised to eighteen years of age. Works Cited Becerra, Judith J. - "The 'Baby The “Teen Driving” Academic Source Premier.
Engines roaring and cars flying down the highway recklessly, racing to the finish. This is a stereotyped outlook on teen drivers. This however, is not the case. Teens don’t drive to race down the road. They drive for freedom. They drive to get where they need to be on their own. The driving age should not be raised to 18 because it takes away their feeling of freedom, Denies the access to needed transportation, denies experience, It puts additional stress on parents, and they need to be learning the driving skill while they’re young.
I think the driving age should still be 16, but a lot of people disagree and think that it should be 18. I Think the average person should be able to drive at the age of 16, because that way, they can take themselves to destinations without having to ask their parents. They are also able to get jobs and earn money to get gasoline.
Many teens want to get their driver license as early as age 15, but I believe teens should start driving no younger than age 18. Compared to 15-year old, an 18-year old is more mature, knowledgeable, and responsible.
According to " Alternatives Explanations" it says that " Teens need more experience with adult behaviors while young to reduce the risks they later face as adults. " Teens learn by making mistakes, if they don’t make mistakes then they don’t learn. If teens learn how to drive at a young age, then they can see their mistakes and fix it now then later in the future. The appropriate age for driving is 18 because an 18 is more developed than a 16-year-old. Yes, we know are brain isn't fully developed till were 25
The minimum driving age should not be raised because young drivers need all the driving they can get under supervision and teenagers always need rides places. First of all, the minimum driving age should not be raised because young drivers need all the practice they can get under supervision. For instance, when first learning to drive, teenagers should have a lot of practice and guidance from an adult. Students at my school either are productive and get their permit right when they turn 15 so they can practice for a year driving under supervision or when they turn 18 they can get their license right away. It is better to get your license at 16 with practice because by having an adult teach teenagers the way of the road it prevents accidents.
If we were to raise the driving age it would most likely be changed to 18. The best reasons for raising it to 18 would probably be that they are more responsible. “Children are not equipped to handle these vehicles, which are hard for even an experienced, adult driver to handle.” (Ron Shaffer) They have More money because of there jobs and if you go away from home you need a license.
How old is it to drive? Most would argue the legal driving age of sixteen seems appropriate for someone to begin taking the wheel, while others say that twenty-one is a more sufficient age. Even though raising or maintaining the driving age at sixteen contains both pros and cons, major facts need to come to consideration if the driving age ever increases. As a teenager driving, I believe that people wanting to raise the driving age do not realize the negative effect that that would cause. For instance, if the age increased, teenagers would lose independence and freedom, parents would have to sacrifice their time and freedom, and even though teenagers die in car crashes every year, it would not decrease the overall number of deaths per year.
The driving age should not be increased to 18. For example, being able to drive makes children more independent. The driving age now is perfect because children become independent sooner rather than later. Some children are mature enough to drive at a young age but it still isn't legal which is not fair. In addition, If people got their driving licence at 18, then it would cause them to become dependant on their guardians. Depending on someone too much is bad because if you always depend on people, then you won't learn to become independent and you won't be successful in life. If your mom takes you to work everyday because you can't drive, then when you’re old enough to drive you will not get a driver's license because you depend on your mom
