Sixteen year-olds have a legitimate argument for keeping the age where it stands, but statistics show that sixteen year olds are not responsible enough to drive, and that more practice is needed before anyone should get a driver’s license. However, from the looks of it, it seems that legislation is going to make the legal driving age eighteen.

The driving age should be raised to eighteen because, sixteen year old brain cells are not fully developed and lead to a higher death rate and also people want the driving age to be raised to eighteen in America. To prove this there has been research done by Brain researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, and Maryland, that shows that sixteen year old kids “executive branch” which is a part of the brain, is not yet fully developed. This is the part of the brain that is responsible for kids taking more risks (Subramani, Mani). Due to sixteen year old kids executive branch not being fully developed, many sixteen year old have less impair of better judgement. Lack of judgement is one of the leading causes of teen crashes.
A population of people believe that the current driving age of 16 should be raised to at least 18 if not higher due to the many crashes that occur from young teens each year, but the legal drinking age is 21 which means more adults would be drinking in result of driving under the influence. The driving age should be kept at 16 for a variety of reasons that many seem to overlook due to inexperience of teens. Don't you think all new drivers need to start somewhere?
How old is it to drive? Most would argue the legal driving age of sixteen seems appropriate for someone to begin taking the wheel, while others say that twenty-one is a more sufficient age. Even though raising or maintaining the driving age at sixteen contains both pros and cons, major facts need to come to consideration if the driving age ever increases. As a teenager driving, I believe that people wanting to raise the driving age do not realize the negative effect that that would cause. For instance, if the age increased, teenagers would lose independence and freedom, parents would have to sacrifice their time and freedom, and even though teenagers die in car crashes every year, it would not decrease the overall number of deaths per year.
Should the driving age be raised to twenty-one? It should not be raised because some parents don’t have time. Many governments considered to raise the driving age.
Would it really be a better world if the driving age was raised to eighteen? First of all it wouldn’t because it would more of a hassle for parents taking there child to and from school and to other places they would like to go. What if you had to leave for work every day at 5:00am and your child had school at 7:00am what would you do; leave your child there to wait for two hours? Parents aren’t our personal taxi service. There for people under the age of eighteen would have less transportation options. The driving age should not be raised to eighteen.
Motor Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S teens. In 2013, 21,683 teens in the United States ages sixteen to eighteen were killed and 24,243 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes. That means six teens ages 16-18-year olds died every
The legal driving limit should not be raised to 18 because it is just as safe for teenagers to drive as it is for 40-60 year olds to drive. The legal driving limit should still stay the same, there are around 5,000 teen deaths a year due to a car accident.
Teenagers are always excited and are feeling free about getting their license when they turn sixteen years old. Many states legislatures are now raising the driving age to eighteen. Most parents and adults would agree, but not the teenagers. I, as a teenager, would actually like the idea of raising the driving age to eighteen. Most of the teenagers at the age of sixteen today are not mature enough to get behind the wheel of a vehicle. There would probably be less car accidents. It would even give them more time to learn about other safe driving techniques. These are some of the reasons why I think eighteen is a great age to start driving.
Getting a drivers license is a huge milestone for teenagers. However, due to high accident rates for teens, parents have been questioning if 16 is the time to drive. The Government has heard these concerned parents out and has been considering raising the legal driving age to 18! Many people, including myself, see many problems with this. The legal driving age of 16 is fine as it is. Just like adults, teens are busy. There are definitely better options.
Should the driving age be changed to 21? Statistics say that 35% of the people believe that it should be changed and 65% believe that it should not. I am part of that 65%. There are many reasons I think 16 is the right age and that 21 is far to old. When teens turn 16 they have a lot of things to do and places to be, school, work, and maybe they have extra curricular activities or sports not everybody’s parents can always take them.
