Exotic Animals Should Stay Exotic

The idea of keeping a wild animal as a pet is a very exotic idea. Thousands of people across America own exotic animals, and most of them can not handle the animal. That is why people should not be allowed to keep exotic animals as pets. Not only does keeping an exotic animal in captivity pose a threat to the owner, it is also very cruel to keep an animal like that locked up or with very little freedom. That adorable, fluffy lion cub may look like the best pet in the world, but what happens when it grows up? Lion cubs will inevitably grow up and be incredibly huge, thus also making them hard to manage. They also will grow into their animal instincts, and after that, they will always be completely unpredictable. According to Mia Lewis, “Many exotic animals are strong enough to be dangerous even without meaning to cause harm. An adult animal is also likely to be aggressive and have more difficult behaviors than a baby one (Lewis).” Domesticating these animals is impossible. According to Mia Lewis, “You also have to build a sturdy cage or enclosure that is the appropriate size and has the right hiding, resting, climbing, and play spaces to approximate the animal’s natural habitat.” Not only does one need to make sure that they provide adequate living area for the animal, but they must also be able to manage the animal so that it does not contract diseases or get loose and become a danger to the public.
